I don't think the black cotton bias tape would look good with the main fabric. The main fabric is a satiny brocade that is vaguely oriental in nature, so if I do finish it off with bias tape, then I will have to do black satin. We'll see how I feel about it as I get going on actually _making_ the apron! LOL I might change my mind!
I also have a ton of white table clothes (like nice banquet style ones) that I can cut up to make aprons too. They are a poly blend so they probably won't dye very well, will they?

LOVE your pattern Sarah...you can do it!!!
Autumn, I always wash everything before cutting!!! If it can't be washed, I usually don't buy it, because it will be just too difficult to keep clean later.
I even wash things that say they can't be washed to make them washable after sewing!! Oh, and you can always cut a 4" square and wash it to test how it is going to react to washing!!
Just a thought,G

G- I also bought a linen/rayon blend for the same pattern. I DID wash it already- and it seems fine. I have a lot of linen dresses but I'm unfamiliar with linen/rayon blend. Is it a good blend for a dress? It feels kinda thin but drapes well and didnt wrinkle much. Am I safe to try again? Autumn

Sure, try it again, but when you wash the new dress, always clean it the way you prewashed it. I would do it on cold water, gentle cycle.
I'm not a linen expert, but E works with linen all of the time. I would love to try some linen myself in the near future!! Would love a long skirt out of it, because as you say, the drape is soooo nice!!
I'm working with velvets this week, crushed, panne, cotton and stretch.......velvet dust all over and the lint in the dryer was soooo nice!!

Whew, this thread really moves along. Only slighty slower than the last time.
Autumn, I like the pattern of the jumper. I wash everything right after I purchase it. That way I don't have to worry about which one I did or didn't do. Would love to see the linen one when it's done.

She said something a few days ago about making soap by the ton, so she must be super busy.
My family has said "ish" or "Ishspice" all of my life! I was so happy to see Kathie use it here. Made me think of my nana (whom we always called nana banana!) |

Grrrr I am soooo aggravated!! I finally sat down at my sewing machine to start sewing up all these things I have cut out and my machine wants to be cantankerous. Granted, she is old, probably a 60 or 70s model that my mom gave me. So I took it apart, cleaned and oiled it up good. It is still chewing up my material and the thread is wadding up somewhere at the bobbin. I've tried adjusting the tensions and that didn't work so I quit for now. Any ideas??
Blessings.... Sarah

Okay Sarah, walk away for a bit, throwing your machine acrooss the room won't make it run better, you might feel better for a few though....lol
Sarah, I love the pattern and that you are brave enough to go for it girl.
Autumn, shoot, my fat bod won't fit into a 12 to 14, shrinking would definitely be a major bummer.
Jess, don't you dare drop out girl, I would be in major withdrawal. I see you joined another swap. Girl, you have swapitise.....lol
I know that there was more to comment on but this sleep derpived brain is yelling at me......Niece, same age as daughter, spent yesterday in emergency room with her, she is fine now, but didn't get back home till 2am....gravy am I tired. Had niece curled up all snuggly on the couch, and ya know ya can't help waking up and checking on them.... ya get the picture
Hey Jess, how was your visit sweetie? Any great recipes from those great Italians.....
Kathie, nice to see your spark and humor.

ooh...sometimes it can be when I'm running out of bobbin thread...the thread gets loose and starts tangling...another thing that wil help if thats not the problem (for me)..is to start about 1/4 in past the raw edge of your fabric, reverse stitch to the edge, then go forward again, sometimes for me on loose weave fabrics it will pull the threads of the fabric and catch the bobbin thread at the same time...and cause it to tangle and bunch up...

So here's a sewing question-
If everything is working wonderfully and then it suddenly binds up on the down stroke, what should I adjust
AND
If the bottom of the stitch is loopy but the top looks great, what should I adjust?
Thanks ladies!
