I was in a fabric/quilt shop yesterday (to buy some local honey-honest) and they had an old galvinized washtub full of buttons for sale by weight. Looked like all of them were white, brown or gray...how dull. Maybe someone picked all the other colors out. Yes, all I bought was the honey, though I did browse a bit. I don't think I'm ready to share buttons just yet, but might have a drawing for some of the duplicate quilt and needlework books. |

Happy Mothers Day!! We had great weather for gardening here, so I hope you all did too. Got a lot done today and hope to have something for the table in a few weeks or so.
Ronna: I thought that line about sewing was right on!! I remember that story from years ago and I told my parents that the only crime she was guilty of was littering when she threw that thing out the window.
Ruth: School is going fine. State test scores came back as some of the best in the state, but this was found out after my boss came into my room with the wrong numbers a few weeks before and was telling me how the Superintendent was furious and wants to find out what I am doing wrong!! Essentially telling me I was the weak link in the district, so I have been crying almost every day wondering why I am such a terrible teacher when we write all the time, read constantly and take tests several times a week. Then the results were in the paper and I beat the competition (a really wealthy district nearby) and all of the surrounding schools. At least now they will leave me alone.
Carol Sue: I am good and enjoying my sewing machine and outdoor time!! How are you?
I am off to check blogs now. I put a picture of my momma on mine (and my son and hubby yesterday!!)
Thanks for asking about me everyone!! My job is the best in the world when it's just the kids, but the other junk makes my stomach hurt all the time, so it is good to know you are all here!!

Happy Mother's Day! I went to the beach by myself this afternoon , my kids went to the movies, and had a lovely time collecting rocks for my garden path. It was cool and breezy, but very nice to be there. I got Martin to dump all the rocks for me. That was good.
Oh jeez, i better go put the potatoes in the oven!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day! I can wait to dust off the sewing machine and get to sewing a few aprons again. But sometimes life is so busy, things get pushed to the back burner.

Edie: I try to make at least 15 minutes every night for sewing. You can not believe how much I get done with that little amount of time every week. Weekends are better, but most nights that 15 is all I get! Glad you are here at the forum!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day also!
Edie, Welcome!!!! I hope you have a wonderful time here! We are a bit nutty, but otherwise we are quite sociable! Glad to have you!
Ronna, I have seen places where they have buttons by the scoop and sometimes they will have a sign saying that you can't pick through them, you just have to take whatever you scoop up! It is amazing though how strategically you can scoop buttons if you try!
I asked before, but I don't know if anyone caught it so I will ask again! My mom has some craft books that I told her I would list on MJF for her! There are country craft, sewing, quilting and needlepoint books! If anyone is interested, I will list them here before I list them under Marketplace!

Karin, did you ever get the treadle out of your van? I don't recall you posting that you did once the snow stopped. If not, get it out before the snow hits again :) I have charred red bell peppers steaming in a bag, will go stir fry them with mushrooms, broccoli, snow peas and the rest of my steak from last night. Hope everyone has had a lovely day, doing just what you want. |

Yeah- it's late for me to be here but I have been up with a friend who is in lots of pain right now- family issues.
Hi Sherlyn- great to hear from you!!! Just remember that those numbers are just that- YOU ARE a good tacher because some of the things you teach those kids cannot be measured in a test with a number!!! You tell the higher-ups I said so!!!!!
Welcome edie- you mean you actually sew???? We get so busy chatting that we run out of time for sewing!!!!
Ronna- I do believe if I ever see buttons for sale by the scoop I will have to buy them-I have never seen that!!!! I have little jars maybe a gallon all together- and I guard them like gold!!! Silly huh? By the way- I had to make a new starter- the taste is totally different than the one you sent me- I'm assuming its because its only a feww weeks old- or is it the locality that changes it? It was just kinda bland- but still good.

Autumn, sourdough starter does get better with age, no doubt. Mine is probably about 12 years old, which is not really old, but has "aged". I'll be sure to post it here when I decide to sell some of the button haul. I don't see them often anymore and some they want $5 for less than a sandwich bag of plain ol buttons. The Senior Thrift shop has been my best source and they usually save them for me. I have lots on the cards too and will probaby only keep the really old ones. I have to do baby steps to let things go, can't just purge like some people do. Guess it's the Cancer crab that holds on to too much. Even with magazines, I have to at least skim through them before they go away. And then they go to the Senior thrift shop; I'm picky about who I donate to-want the proceeds to go directly to those in need and not to fill someone's wallet. |

Aha! Ronna, I didn't realize you were a Cancer crab too, no wonder you love your stuff. I am the same way, with a heavy dose of Packrat added in! Yes, I did get my treadle out of the car, but haven't tried it yet. Just too much other stuff going on at the moment.
Too many rocks yesterday, I'm feeling like I am going to be walking pretty close to the ground today. Ah well, some people never learn, you would think I would smarten up, but I guess it is too late to hope for any extra brain cells connecting.
Cold and clammy here today, i am determined to finish the top of my string quilt today so I can get it machine quilted , that is if I haven't already blown the budget for this month. I have to get something finished or I think my brain might explode.
i think the coffee is ready, so I'm heading back to the kitchen...

Hey Karin,
Yep, the cancer ladies here (including me) seem to like to hoard major amounts of stuff. I'm thinking that Sharon is a cancer too so her fabric inventory doesn't have to be explained..hahahaha
Hope everyone had a nice weekend and that your week has started out *pain free*

Good Morning Ladies!! I hope everyone is having a wonderful day!
Steph, If hoarding is a Cancer thing, then what is my excuse? because I am a Taurus!! I am actually getting ready to list some fabric on etsy! I have some pieces that I know I will probably never use!

Monica, you are such a creative person, I figure whatever your sign is if you are someone who is creative, of course you have to have a stash! I love your silk thread, the colors are gorgeous. I'm not sure what i would do with it, probably admire it for a couple years before I broke down and used it. Is it for embroidery? I can't spend any money on anything at the moment, but you are definitely at the top of my list of farmgirl magic that i will someday get.
I just took a huge nap. Still feel exhausted. I don't get it, maybe just a reaction to my rock mining adventures. It is so clammy outside, I'm trying to work up enough energy to stagger outside and plant the potatoes. I got the last of the Green mountain ones at my local nursery yesterday. Coffee doesn't seem to be working today...

Good evening, ladies!! I hope everyone had a wonderful mother's day. Saturday was a pretty quiet day here. My hubby went to help his brother cut down a tree and get his car inspected. It needs about $1000 worth of work. He only drives it to work which is less than a mile and we don't like to put that much money into a car with 10+ years. Sunday we went to visit my mother in law in the nursing home and then came home for lunch. After lunch we went to my brother's to see my mother. She had to work.
I posted pictures on my blog of the gifts I made for mother's day. I had so much fun sewing and working on all the gifts. I am totally hooked and am thinking of what the next thing I'll make is.
I got a gift card to Joannes from hubby and the kids. My daughter also bought us dinner one day last week. It was a nice time.
I have to go finish up laundry and ironing. Hubby is at school taking an exam. I had to do school with the kids this morning and we worked hard. We are trying to finish by the end of the month and we're catching up from the days we didn't get to do as much work because the kid's had coop classes but the end is near. We are almost done with different subjects and then we'll just finish up on the stragglers.
Hi! Edie~welcome!!

I am a cancer crab too! That does explain everything about my stashes of books, fabric, sewing supplies, food pantry full, so on and on! LOL
Autumn: Thanks for the good words. I am happy that my scores where so high, but it is all so silly in the end. One day of testing does not prove someone is good or bad at their job! It is so crazy, but at least they will leave me alone for another year. They must feel like dopes for making me feel like a turd before they knew what they were looking at! I got the most WONDERFULLY GLOWING email from the super today about my great scores.

Sheryl-lyn~That sounds so awful. I'm sure it must have made you sick when they came to you and accused you like that. How awful. Teaching is tough. I taught in a private school for 5 years and the students were great but the rest~forget it. It can make you lose sleep and get gray hair.
I am so glad to hear the scores were high. It just shows them how great you are as a teacher. I hope they remember that the next time they approach you.

A couple of months ago it seemed that there was much concern regarding the Food-Safety-Modernization-Act-HR-875 since it could hurt our small organic farms and the ability to sell fresh/organic foods at farmers markets or sales right from the farm since they would not be able to conform to some of the outlandish standards set forth in this bill, etc.
I did a little research and I’ve put together a page with government and other websites you can visit and perhaps get a clearer picture of what this bill could mean. PLEASE VISIT THIS PAGE AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS ISSUE. http://curlywillowsranch.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
Next will there be a bill to restrict the use of fibers (dying, spinning , waving) unless strict government regulations are followed. In fact, I believe there is a bill now that would prohibit the sale of certain handmade items .....Does anyone have information on this?
