Karin, I was drooling all over the place reading about your cookstove - it sounds wonderful! Hope you don't get flooded out, but I love the sounds of nature when the weather changes...

Ronna, sounds like you had an interesting visit, regardless of the reason for going...

I would really like to be building a chicken coop too, but our lot restrictions specify no farm animals - really stinks cause we live in the country and the lots aren't real small, about 1.5 acres. My mom's neighbor put in a nice little coop with chickens and the neighbors were all worried but you wouldn't even know they are there! But I have the neighbor from hell so I don't think I could get away with it. Ah well, I just keep planning my "retirement" home some place else...

Suzanne~same situation with me. I would love chickens but can't have them here either. The restrictions don't allow it. When I talked to city hall they said I could try if the neighbors were ok with it but we also have the neighbors from hell. Maybe they're related. I also dream of a little farm. Too bad you can't because you have a good size lot.

Yes it will be great for Autumn to have her daughter nearby.

Off to art class and errands.

I just looked at the weather on the net, statewide flooding today. My pond is really close to my house and has a little dam for the overflow, fortunately my house sits on a tiny knoll so the water doesn't come in the house, just the road in front of it.

Steamed my head, took my meds, feeling better. I think Zan and I might have to head out in search of mat board for some art things that need to be fixed up. I found some wonderful sketches my father did years ago of chickens. I just want to frame it and put i t somewhere in this house. I was looking through old boxes of art work last night, I found lots of things I hadn't seen for years. Beautiful watercolors that my mother did, and lots of stuff from when my brother and aI were babies.

I guess this means I better get dressed and get moving before the light disappears.

I think we should all stage a powwow at karins, help her go through everything, organize it all, get the house decorated with generations of family art, build her a small coop, plant some flowers and clean out the barn...oh wait..has the treadle been brought in the house? we should do that as well.

and fix the drafty window by the computer!! Dont forget that!

Karin- how cool to have such art pieces!!! No artists in my heritage-well- ok needle art counts I guess. Several generations of ladies who did phenomenal work.

We're working(I should say they) every evening after work. By Saturday the outdoor structrual stuff will be complete and we will prepare to hit the inside building and finishing.
They cut up part of the tree that fell on the bridge yesterday and tonight it will be the one that hit the house.

Blessings,

Jess~that's a great idea. When do we start? I would love to do that.

Karin~how wonderful to find those treasures. Can't wait to see pics.

Autumn~no artists in my heritage either~except for needle arts. My grandmother and great grandmother made amazing filet crochet pieces.

My son is a good artist. I can't wait until he brings home some of his things from art class so I can take pictures and show them off.

Just got back and have groceries to put away and supper to make. No fun.

Well my daughter and I went on a little ramble in search for mat board. The road was completely foggy the whole way down the coast. It finally started to clear a little when we got to where we were going. The road was washed out in several places on the way down, the shoulders crumbling, etc. We couldn't find the store we were looking for because it has disappeared...sort of annoying. We decided to take a different back road home to see the floods, it is definitely going to be a mess, supposed to be flooding again tomorrow.

That is exactly what I need Jess, a small land army of farmgirls, and that frigging treadle is still in the back of my car. I have to do a little rearranging before we haul it in.

The house I lived in before this had ten and a half foot ceilings. I wanted to have some hammocks on pulleys so could store my fabric overhead. My husband was not amused...I also considered velcro ceioings because the thought of flinging stuff out of the way truly appealed to me, but I knew that would be too expensive. I know the real answer is to just pare down, sometimes do get some things moved along but this year I just feel "mortared" in, as my neighbor used to say.

Tomorrow if it stops raining I'm going to see if I can get my raised beds weeded and turn the soil a bit. Still a little bit of snow piled up, but nothing to worry about, I'm sure that another night of pelting rain will take care of what ever bits of snow it finds.

Ruth, isn't it amazing what kids can do? They are such wonderful artists, not bogged down with thoughts of having to get things right, they just do their interpretation of whatever they are working on, often with amazing results. I look forward to seeing your son's work. I have a picture my daughter drew in fourth grade with pastels, it is so wonderful, a little birch tree throwing a shadow. She hates it, but I love it. (I think it is finally growing on her, she hasn't threatened to destroy it for quite a while. It is such fun to have lots of artwork to swap out , there are never a lot of open spots on the walls around here....

Okay, I think it is time for that afternoon coffee pick-me-up. I got some new batteries for my camera so i will try to take some pictures tomorrow...

Karin~velcro ceilings and hammocks~lol~I can imagine that your husband was not too thrilled. Mine would be calling the men in white coats to come get me if I made those suggestions. Kids are amazing in what they create.

This economy sucks~more threats of job loss at hubby's job~jobs going to India~yada, yada... It's really disgusting and discouraging. What is happening to this country.

Sorry to rant.

It is just so annoying and frustrating. Why doesn't the great big gov't do something about all these jobs leaving the country. Where is the money going to come from if no one in the USA has a job. That' where we're headed.

Ruth, I hear you I think I hit another melt down a few weeks back about the government and I usually go numb for a while before the next one hits...I have to say I don't think I've ever been as closed tuned to a situation than this one...guess I was at a point where it wasn't affecting me or something in the past recessions and the fact that this one is so totally different..at this time any and everyone that's making money in this country has been affected in a major way..if they haven't been...I want to know their secret!

Karin, ARTWORK...yes, please take pics and post on your blog..I will so enjoy going down memory lane with you. I saw one of those "loft" redo's on HGTV several years back and the lady had all of her fabric in the plastic totes..the only way I know how to describe it was she has all of them sitting on a "window washer" scaffolding get up...hope that makes sense..she had the rope and pullies to raise and lower it..it was stored at about the 15 foot level since it was a loft building. I thought that was grand idea! The velcro is priceless...never wonder again where something is..just look up at the ceiling to find it..

Ruth, Be sure to post your sons artwork on your blog!!

My hubby's company is negotiating with the union right now-how dumb would that be to strike in the state of the present economy. I cant imagine them voting to strike.
I guess we'll hear in a few days what the decision is.

By the way- my son in law found a very good job at the local Chevy dealership-great op. for a young guy!

Autumn, ..LOL They were planning their *annual* strike at the location where Thomas is contracting right now..insane, he was having to find out which gate to go through since they can only legally block ONE entrance...He already knew of it since they talked about it for weeks prior to it taking place..seems to be an annual event...it made national news and they negotiated a 3-4% raise so it didn't go to the strike....just insane, especially right now.

Hey, that's great to get the job at the dealerships..they pay pretty good..or they better...LOL for the labor rate they charge...that's where I was this afternoon..A freon line for my AC blew last weekend..they say that depending on how long it takes them to get to the hose (since everything seems to be scientifically arranged in these PT Cruisers)..it could cost $200 to $600 in labor!!!!! omg, it's only a freon hose for pete's sake..my eyes glazed over and I told them to have a good day because I have to pay the federal tax that's due FIRST!

Thomas has paid enough Federal tax this year to support another person! Just outrageous...and they talk about increasing our taxes MORE...just think the Federal Income tax was supposed to be a temporary measure when it first began...

Carol, Computers can be contrary that's for sure but I do like having one. I've had one since 1990 so it would be very odd to have cyberspace gone from my world....I've met so many lovely ladies in blogland over the past two years..I think the planet would tilt if Google did away with blogs..yikes what an awful thought..LOL

I always wanted a MAC due to the ease of using graphics programs *from what I've been told anyware* Bill Gates did great with the Windows platform but MAC is the real deal...I hope that Windows 7 update this year fixes all the bugs in Vista..it's a real pain at times.

Thanks for the email. I love hearing from you.

Steph........Can't even begin to rave and rant about what's been going on in this country since the "WANA-BE" "New Order Administration" took over...... ooopps did I say that? Don't think most American Citizens will take much more. I believe most Americans are generous, decent, and law abiding people who's main concern is raising and caring for their families the best they can and helping our neighbors when necessary. My question is why are we portrayed as selfish, BAD individuals by the people who were ELECTED to lead us????? Something's really VERY wrong!

I know it's not appropriate on this site but we really need to figure out a pace we can go where we can discuss these kind of issues and let all our true feelings be known...BEFORE WE LOOSE OUR RIGHT TO HAVE AN OPINION!

You guys want velcro ceilings - I want a velcro wall and 2-6 velcro suits for the kids. I swear. Even without a nap they can and will tire out a golden retriever (to where the dog will go lay down for a nap and my boys will go prod it to try and get it to play again). Luckily the friend's dog is okay with this whole thing, but still.

Economy. Yeah. I can't say what I'd like here. I'm sure I'm already on the gov't *@#$*^%%@# list because of what my family does anyway (homeschool, we don't go to Sunday church, we are neither D nor R, we *gasp* grow food, blah blah blah).
I suppose the upside is that I'm now "cool" for some of the frugal-type things my family does.

Oooh, my neighbor has a neato thing close to what you're talking about. It's a sturdy platform rigged up with high-tension cables and a motor so they can store things (like a piano) on top of a huge platform they have that's the ceiling of the offices/rooms in their shop. So stinkin' cool. I just wanted to play with it when they were showing it to us one day.

Hey, cables with a motor...way cool

Carol, I do know what you mean..and although I know this isn't the forum to voice ALL of what I think..I do find that our basic freedom of speech is being squashed in regards to many topics these days...wow, there's a good visual..LOL You know what I mean? I know there is a place for it and figure if no one likes it then they should drive by without stopping..don't hender our freedom of speech and opinions.

On an altogether different subject I am biting the bullet and calling the doc tomorrow to discuss having injections put into the heels of my feet...now doesn't just reading that make you shutter! Bev, I know you are there somewhere..I'll be a big girl and not scream too loud. I wish Dr. Jack was near so he could do this for me...I've got to have some relief from this foot pain before I lose my mind....well, what's left of it..LOL

Steph, good luck with the foot shots, I know how hard it is to have pain in your feet all the time. It isn't like we get to give our feet a rest very often. I've had great relief from shots in my shoulders, back when I had a doctor, and insurance. I hope it works, because you are going to be so busy at that cabin!
I would like a couple shots to the brain myself. I swear my brain hurts these days.

Dank, dark, clammy and cold again today. I came downstairs an hour ago to take a pain pill and then got sucked in to the lair that is this infernal machine. Now that the pain is lightening up I think I'll go back to bed for a few minutes and get a cat heating pad warm up and then head for the sewing machine. I am having so much fun with my little nine patch blocks. I love the colors and the simplicity of the pattern, and the many things I can do with it to change the impact of the visuals.

Yesterday on our way to finding no mat board Zan and I spied the lovely spotty sheep quite close to the fence, so I got new camera batteries and now I'm going to have that thing in my car at the ready to take pictures. Lots of wonderful animals appearing in the pastures these days. And I love to take pictures in the old graveyards too, I don't know why they call to me the way they do, but I really love to look at all the old stones. When a child died, sometimes there is a broken rosebud on the stone, sometimes you see a full blown rose broken from its stem. There are a lot of little stories in the designs on the old New England gravestones. A little cemetery near our house has some wonderful old hand carved stones, there is one with a willow tree I've been planning to make a little applique of for years. Maybe this is the year I should do it.

Jess, I am itching to see your chickens in their new luxury digs, they are so sweet, the little chicks especially.

Teresa, don't worry about keeping your girls out of school for a couple of days, they will catch right up, and learning is a non stop process, especially with children.

Carol Sue, I hope you are getting some relief from the fibro. I'm finding it tedious as well, but this is the week I am determined to makie your apron....I just have to stop making quilt squares for a bit....When you find that camera cord i want to see pictures of your little kitties. Can you borrow Teresa'a camera cord? I need a photo fix. I got new batteries for my camera and now I can't remember where I put the frigging camera. I need a GPS system for household items, I never mind getting lost on the back roads, but when I misplace my camera I feel terrible. Enough of this babble...

Good morning, ladies~

Steph and Carol~I so agree with you about what is happening in our country. Hard to keep my mouth shut. It's really sad to see it happen.

Steph~good luck with the shots.

Karin~same weather here~damp, dark and cool. I want sun. I love the old graveyards, too. People think I'm crazy. There are alot of historical cemetery plots all over our neighborhood. Unfortunately, they are not well kept up. Most of the stones date to the 1800's and the inscriptions have almost worn off.
