i am so jazzed about this...i am so in love with dark green velvet. the very first good piece of clothing I ever made was a pair of blue velvet bell bottoms that I patterned after a pair of my mom's from 1960 something...the lady at the cutting counter told me I would never be able to make pants outta velvet..I went back 2 days later wearing them. HA!!! proved her wrong. anyway..still have em...i will never get rid of em. I think I was 12 or 13. I just love velvet. And she wants a robe to wear instead of a coat, with side seam pockets that a small breed rabbit will fit into comfortably, and two interior "wand" pockets, a hood, a tie belt, a tassle on the hood, and braid around the hood, sleeves, and bottom hem. I may line it with black fleece since she wants it to substitute for a coat. I dont know...what do you think Bonne?

well, I made some homemade wheat bread this afternoon, and this is what I did..I took about
1 1/2 cup bread flour
3 cups whole wheat flour
2 eggs
1 packet rapid rise yeast dissolved in about 1 1/2 cup room temp. water
2 eggs
1/3 cup crisco..but you can actually use real butter for this part
1/3 cup sugar
pinch of salt
Mix the dry ingredients together well.
Cut in the crisco or butter
Add the eggs, mix well.
Add the yeast water.
Mix together very well.
Smooth out into greased loaf pan.
Let rise in a warm area for about half an hour to an hour.
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.
yummmy

Anyhow...showing this recipe to show that you can do the same with the biscuits. Cut back on the self rising flour a bit to about half and add your whole wheat flour, that way you still get a light and tasty biscuit, but with the benefits of the whole wheat...and yes..the butter makes for a yummier biscuit.

The only concern with a fleece lining I would have, is velvet is a woven and fleece is a knit.
I personally don't like to combine the 2, but if you feel comfortable with it, it's your call.

here's how I make my sausage gravy..southern style :0)

Brown a package of Jimmy Dean sausage in the flavor of your choice.(or if you do not have bulk sausage, use sausage patties, that you crumble, or link sausages crumbled)
Drain, and set aside sausage. Reserving about 1 tablespoon of drippings.
Mix together 2 tablespoons of flour with about 1/3 cup cold milk in a cup to create a paste.
add this to your skillet and mix well with the drippings. Begin slowly adding about 1 1/2 cup milk to the mix..slowly. Whisking the whole time to make a smooth gravy.Let mixture come to a light low boil, continue stirring mixture.
Add the sausage back into the skillet and continue cooking until gravy has thickened, you can add more milk if needed.Add salt and pepper to taste.

Another way that I make my sausage gravy is to brown the sausage and drain it..leaving just enough drippings in the pan to add the flour to..sprinkle the flour over the sausage..and mix well..then start streaming the milk into the pan this way..again I keep my whisk handy and continue mixing the mixture to eliminate the possibility of lumps.
This method is a bit trickier though if you aren't used to making old fashioned milk gravy.

So, the easiest way is to make your flour and milk paste..sort of how you make a paste of cornstarch and water to thicken things..same principle..it makes for a smoother gravy.

The milk gravy is meant to be served very thick over the biscuits.
Here in the South..we always add pepper to the gravy.

Enjoy!

i need to make it warm, ya know...my joanns is for knitters and quilters and scrapbookers, so my selection for clothes is usually poor...so i have to go with fleece i think. They had 1/2 bolt of black suiting of wool, it was crummy though and $15/yrd..not worth it in my opinion.

Boy am I glad you didn't leave out the pepper!!! Can't have milk gravy without it!Ya'll try the gravy with the biscuits and you'll be eatin' truly southern.
I've tried cutting the flour with whole wheat flour but mine are purists and want a WHITE LIGHT biscuit so we succomb to the white stuff for biscuits.
They do like it that way for other breads, which we rarely eat much of.
This is a real meat & rice & gravy bunch-true cajuns.
Carol Sueok what night can I cook at your place? I wanna have a cup of coffe and visit with ya a little bit.Hey- I am still waiting on my "Carol Sue Original dyed fat qtr"- I guess I'll have to make a trip to the northwest to get it. Oh I know you tried that pattern and your as frustrated as I was!! Ahem, I told ya so!!!
Gotta get crackin' round here
Blessings
Autumn
PS_ Never ate croc- but true gator is like chicken & fish. Gator hunting is a hoot, too. Did it growing up but have enough memories to know I didn't let my kids.
Just like motorcycles- we did it as kids and teens etc. but NONE of my kids got to. When ya live on the edge and grow up sometimes ya wonder how you lived. Poor kids- they'll never know what they missed!

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

i think her prices are just fine, I think lots of peep on etsy sell for too much. i have seen lots of ladies on there who are doing very well, and then they raise their prices and their sales decrease significantly.

I love gator. Eat it whenever I am in Florida to see my parents. A little store by me sells unique meats like gator, kangaroo, ostrich, etc. I should try it. Cannot wait to see your cloak, Jess.

Tina: Thanks for sharing the recipes! I love eating biscuits and gravy. Will definitely be making that sometime over the Thanksgiving weekend!

as soon as it is done tonight, you all will be the first to see it. Ofcourse, I need to go buy black braid, and cording and a tassle, so it will be without embellishments for now. I saw that the day after Thanksgiving Joann's has dress forms for 89.99...does anyone have one of these? Denise...show us your pic!
