ok i am soooo glumm now you all are sewing and having fun projects. i am stuck with a sick hoousehold. the baby shared his headcold with the rest of us. soo i am just gonna try to get some house work done tonight, yeah i know its one in the morning but it isnt gonna get done at any other time. to many little persons wanting momma, cant seem to get a second to clean at the moment but they are secure in knowing that mama will hold them and love on them when they are feeling yucky.

my only comments on quilting are use cotton thread with cotton. the quilt stores tend to have the tighter weaved fabric(someday i will explain that one better), and a machine is a machine as long as it sews(i prefer the lovely humm of a featherweight) and thread is thread just clean out your machine with canned air everytime you change your bobbin and run out of thread on top and you'll be fine(oh yeah one word of caution is let the machine sit for a few minutes before turning it back on after using the canned air, mom caused a tiny fire once and we thought the machine was toast but it wasnt thank goodness) you all know that i hand quilt, but i have also tied and had a quilt machine done. the only thing i have found is that tying comes out a little faster then the rest but you can always retie it.

mom was nice to me growin up with my hair. i only had one incident that was horrible, my best friend at the time went with us when i got my hair done and convinced mom and the hair dresser that i needed bangs even though i did not want them and so i ended up with horrible chunky bangs and then my former bff called me lassie the dog and made fun of my haircut that shhhheee insisted i have. eeerrrrrr. i only remember having one perm as a kid and if i remember right it didnt quit take like it should have. i also remember very fondley mom rolling my hair into those foam curlers and sleeping on them and having curls in the morning, i was really little too. it made me feel special

ronna not like aprons ohhhh the shame(just kidding, we all love her dearly)

mmm, I went to bed early last night and you girls got really chatty!! 900 pages, so when does the Farm archive the thread and start over?

Autumn, the apron is really cute - I like the fabric! I'm with you, I'd need to make adjustments to the pattern too, will have to remember that if I ever use that pattern.

Monica, my aunt lives in Quartzite, she and another aunt used to live around the Lake Mead area and Kingman. She is 90 now, but she would have fit in here! She had a little travel trailer and moved all over the US, living in her travel trailer. And was good with tools - if she needed something built she just did it herself! Went thru a number of husbands (and I think some that weren't quite husbands...)...really did life "her" way!

Good morning, ladies!!

Yesterday, my in laws came to visit. Then we went to see my husband's godmother. She is in rehab and the place does not seem that great. She is still very weak and most of all wants to be at home.

Today, we are working on school and we got an early start. Hopefully, we can get things done early. I have lots of laundry to do. Sheets are in the washer and I hope they will be dry and back on the bed soon. Sometimes they get all rolled up and come out still wet. I need to do some ironing and then later off to Wally World. I really hate going there but have to get some stuff and it's cheaper there. I also need to run to the post office and mail these bills that need to be paid.

The Joannes here seems to have cotton fabric that is thin. I like the sturdier thicker cotton and can't find it around here. I have never ordered fabric online because I like to see it and feel it first but I think that I will need to find a good place. I'm not too happy with the ones at Joannes and haven't tried any from Walmart.

Gotta go correct some work and do some laundry. Hopefully, I can catch up with some of you later.

Good morning, Suzanne!!

Autumn~I love that apron. It's gorgeous. I know that you have ordered fabric. Where from? Is it online? I love the fabric you used for the swap apron.

I buy lots of fabric at JoAnns, it is my only choice. You just need to be choosy. My JoAnns carries many different qualities of fabric. I think the same went for some Walmart fabrics..but I stopped shopping at Walmart 5 yrs ago. I won't go back...the atmosphere makes my head swim. There are several online sites to buy fabric from, but sometimes you end up with one you wont like.

That's what I'm afraid of. I would hate to order and then it would be junk. Joannes is the only choice here to. We used to have a Fabric Place but they closed it down because Joannes opened up right next to it.

I don't like Wally World either. It does make your head swim and I am thinking of just totally not going there anymore. Hubby and I were talking about that last night. It's so crazy in there all the time. Hubby went there with our son to pick up something with left over Christmas money he had. The cashier was talking and saying really nasty things, very loudly~he was disgusted.

I have 3 Joannes, all within 7 miles from me, in different directions. I am picky when it comes to fabric as well. I have bought fabric from Wally World, but I don't like the thin cotton fabrics, that they carry, but I will buy if I like the fabric and the quality.

Morning ladies, sun is out, not too cold,

I used to buy Coats and Clark but I don't any more. I kept getting breaks in the thread when using it in machine sewing. I love Gutterman's quilting thread, it is expensive, but it has a nice sharp finish and is easy to thread the needle with, and that's a big plus with me. I sometimes get really great thread marked way down at my favorite salvage store. They also have lots of beautiful hig quality fabric, the kind that sells for $9 a yard, for three or four, and when they have a sale..wooohoo! It is why I have way too much fabric. I am trying to behave myslef and not buy any more.

For mail order fabric, I;'ve always had good luck with Hancock's of Paducah, and they often have things on sale. My favorite place is reproductionfabrics, com. They are located in Montana, they have great fabric, loads of information, their site is set up the best of any I know, they make looking at fabric a real pleasure.

Off to run errands this morning, not looking forward to that, didn't sleep too well, I already feel really sore and a couple hours in the car ain't going to help. But we'll take the long way home and maybe see some sheep out in the fields o the farms closer to the water where the snow is already disappearing...

There used to be a small farm near my house that always had these wonderful spotty sheep. We had a favorite we called Spatterboy, but they sold out and moved , now we have a tiny barbershop in someone's house there. And a couple miles down the road we have the dueling barbershop, I guess they stay in business because men seldom cut their own hair.

My son told me he got a haircut this weekend. He has light brown curly hair, and he's worn it fairly long for years. Zan and I are taking him on our errand run and we're trying to think up the horrible possibilities he could have chosen, my favorite so far is Zan's idea of the combo mohawk/mullet, I thought maybe the sardine can, the one where they shave the back and sides and just leave a little layer on the top. Of course maybe a big pompadour, though I hope not.Time will tell...

Ok, off to tank up on coffee.

Karin~have fun on your errands. I hope that you are not too sore by the end of them. Can't wait to hear about your son's haircut. What is it with men with nice long curly hair. Mine is as straight as could be.

Is anyone up for the challenge of page 1000 by April 1st.

Of course you KNOW why fabric is skimpy anymore~because we closed down the AMERICAN mills and IMPORT the shoddy stuff from China, India & elsewhere. Stand up and declare your outrage!

Anybody have relatives that survived the dust bowl of the 30's? Almost a decade of torment?
Most of those survivors didn't stay, and most affected small towns never recovered. But we NEVER seem to learn anything from history anymore.
And, how can people NOT graduate from HS? All you have to do is show up! We've become a nation of the uneducated.

I'm on the warpath today

Cute apron Autumn! That's something like my grandma wore~I can see her putzing in her garden.....

doesn't do too much good when someone tells me I "can't" do something, guess I've always been that way. Drives DH nuts, he never knows what to expect...the one thing I haven't challenged is the deed restriction on our lot that we can't have outside animals...when we bought we clarified that didn't mean dogs and still stirred up a hornets nest after we moved in...so no chickens or goats for me yet. Have to move first.

Bonne, did you see my posting about seeing the Pfaff treadle at an auction? Have you seen many of them?

Well, today is Hannah's birthday and she is 5 years old!!! I can't believe she will start kindergarten in July! I am so NOT ready to send her off on the bus!!!!!

Ruth, If we get busy, we can make it to 1000 by April 1st with no trouble! At one point we were going through 7 pages a day!!

Bonne, Isaiah saw a picture of the chicken coop and wanted it as a play house!

I was up until 2 a.m. cleaning! I got the front room cleaned up really good , got rid of some toys and sorted through a lot of the girls clothes! I didn't get as much done as I wanted, but I do have a whole basket of stuff for the thrift store! I am off to clean some more!!

I have purchased fabric from Quilt Fabric Closeouts and Fat quarter shop and both were good fabric and shipped quickly at a great price. I normally buy online when I am looking for a specific print or color- so far so good!!

Well, John took 7 of the kids out of town for the weekend. They got home around midnight last night. Only Emilia and I were here all weekend. So, I got a lot done. My kitchen is clean with no crap on the counters. The floor is clean. The dogs were so calm all weekend, it was nice. The quiet was insane. I cannot believe how much noise we create...I somehow never realized it. Anyhow, my sewing room is organized mostly and my dining room table is almost cleared off.

Anyway, I just went around my whole yard and picked up after a whole winter of dogs. Ugh! Well, I like the pups but my gosh...3 gallons!

Heck, I want the chicken coop as a play house!!! LOL
I think this is why this irks me so much~I'm already messing everyone up with our
new vast garden. Neighbors were like flies on fresh dung when the manure was delivered.
"you're doing what?" "that looks like a lot of watering"
well, I WAS already watering it when it was grass, what's the diff??? Now I'll get produce. You want to live here, you need to produce!
"OH......"
Oh, yes, I need to be far away somewheres, but it ain't happening anytime soon, so in the meantime, I'm doing what I can here.

Never seen a Pfaff treadle, but I'm sure they were treadling away in Europe~just too difficult to bring your treadle over when immigrating. You were lucky to pack everything you owned into your immigrant trunk.
If you really want to know about sewing machines~look up StitchinWitch/Judith on here~she has 100's of machines and knows them well.

Jess~wow a quiet weekend all to yourself. Did John and the kids have fun? Did they do anything special? We picked up a ton of stuff from our dog in the yard last weekend and more this weekend.

Well, chickens are on hold here. Hubby asked me to wait until next year because this year we are starting the big garden and we are putting up a fence along one side of the yard. There is a post and rail fence there that belongs to the neighbors. Last year they were shooting off fireworks and they did it purposely next to our dog who was at the fence because there were so many people there and she loves people and then they laughed when she ran away scared. Nice~so now we are putting up a 6 ft. stockade to match the rest of the yard. More privacy and then we can get our chickens next spring.

Bonne~I need to be far away somewheres, too. Would have goats, sheep and chickens if I could but not here. It's not happening anytime soon so I am here and waiting and doing what I can. I love that coop, too.

Autumn~thanks for the links.

Bonne and Jess both shoveling poop, but from different animals. I put garbage in the compost/worm bin. big deal :) Need to get out and really mix it up well and see if my worms survived winter.
Larry said it's 70 below with the wind chill this morning in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Does everyone feel warmer now? Better him than me, I don't like it at any temp below freezing, would actually prefer about 70 year round, but that won't happen here.

That's why I never looked back (much) after I left Minnesota.(what were those Scandinavians thinking??? "reminds me of home, lets park it, Olga")
Also why I wouldn't want to live in the high mountains here~the growing season is almost non-existent in the hills~you'd have to have some kind of greenhouse system going but that doesn't get natural pollination.
Speaking of, the bees are buzzing wildly around my blossoming fruit bushes~that's a good sign. No, I'm all about a moderate climate anymore. Hawaii anyone? LOL 70's all the time....
