Monica, if you're still in cleaning mode, come here next. It's close...only about 600 miles, right? Amazes me those who think Reno is close to Las Vegas, it's 500 miles. Same as to Los Angeles.
The desert has grass, if there's water to keep it green. Our house sits on an old alfalfa ranch and we still get some come up in the spring.
Apron thread...what apron thread Autumn? Oh, son and grandson have left the Superdome/New Orleans alive but not impressed with the decay and devastation still in the area.

Awesome job Autumn I love that but I suck at trying to change a pattern to make it fit. It will fit your daughter I bet. So small would work for me just have to shorten which mag. I like that fabric too
Baby watching too huh lucky you and I bet you are smiling

Yeah- it will never be the same- in a way thats good. Some of those folks have NEVER been anywhere else and I really feel bad for them cause they dont live the same anywhere else!!! Can you imagine being so limited in resources and displaced at the same time?

Our town has recovered mostly- but many landmarks are gone forever.
Our neighbors in Cameron have struggled to return( why? I have no idea!!!) and some in their 70's are determined to rebuild.
Theyve already lost the entire town 3 times 1957,and then Rita and Gustave or Ike ~ they are all running together now!!!

I've never understood the mentality of repeatedly building where mother nature has carved a path through an area. History does repeat when it comes to storms. I saw so much of this in SoCalif when fires or floods would take out entire areas over and over and they'd rebuild every time.

If this is the apron thread, am I, the one who won't wear an apron, allowed to be here?

Its the reason our homeowners ins is so high.
Our rates were raised 30 % after Rita & Katrina and we pay a surcharge for those who had no insurance but rebuilt anyway.
They also increased our deductible from 500 dollars to 5000 dollars- so we have paid dearly in ins. premiums for sure.

Carrie- the apron was in the Raising Jane Issue (Aug -Sept) pg 79

Once I get but 3 times what are they waiting for-go down with the land it is not worth it. I know people suffered big time and probably still are. Animals too A definate tragedy. But sometimes I guess it is not easy to move your family roots. Me I am a gypsy could move all the time I love to travel and see the world.

This nomad got the hell out after Katrina....enoughs enough as they say..I too know so many that have never been anywhere else and cannot vision themselves anyplace else so they stay and rebuild....just human nature to stay where you are from...me traveling all my life has made it easy for me to pick up and make home someplace else...of course, y'all know I longed for those mountains and now I'm headed that way! YAHOO!!! been a long time coming.

aha, Autumn gets the "900" prize, I knew we could do it.
Son told me it was raining and he wondered if he'd be driving through any flooded areas on the way to St Louis. He didn't say where he was when he called.
Ok, thanks Steph, for the "and more" part so I can be here.

I told my husband tonight that I really didnt care to do a hurricane this year again.
We have never repaired our guest house - just made it weather safe. Such a waste- but insurance and FEMA didnt care about it since it was not our primary residence.

Not sure yet what page I'm supposed to be commenting on.....there are soooo many pages...you girls just know what you're doing here and I seem to be lost (a little).

We live about 1/2 hour from Oatman, Arizona where Monica lives. We live in Bullhead City in the winter and LOVE to go to Oatman for ice cream cones, lunch, crafts, demanding burros (for carrots!), the gun fights, and most of all the genuine, friendly people who make this special town their home! We absolutely enjoy living so close to this wonderful place.

Carrie, It's okay to laugh! I think it's hilarious now that I am home! On top of everything else there was this lady at church, that I don't even know who told me I need to get the kids something to eat! Duh!!!! They were just setting up the tables! My best friend Cindy was there and said "no were going to let them starve"!!! Oh my gosh, I think that is the last pot luck for a while!

Autumn, I LOVE your apron! It is so very pretty!!!!

Ronna, Of course you can stay!!!

Okay, I can't remember who said about grass, but yes, it's very green here right now, but most of it is weeds and it usually dies out once it heats up!

Only 100 pages to go till 1000!!!!!!!

Monica, you tell her!! LOL That's right Carol, we make it up as we go along..our lives can swing from one extreme to the other so just jump in and tell us what you are doing.

I know everyone is wishing for spring time to get here NOW! Garden planning is in full motion with many...I just want to get another moving truck up the mountain to my cabin!
