If your having trouble with thread breaking put it in the freezer the moisture seems to help.
Many of the judged quilts have gone to a rule that they have to be hand stitched or stitched by yourself on a machine no sending them out.
Hair color is a fact of life and I know that my daughters would be the first to take me to a salon and get it done I have it done every 6 weeks and she also gets rid of the mono brow and the chin hairs.
I too would get the Pixi cut every summer I think if Mom would have had a choice she would just as soon shaved it like my brothers.
Ronna the rubber culers were they the ones that when open looked like a thread spool and then you turned the top down to hold the hair. I had the pin curls and when my mom was mad at my brothers they were very tight. So my brothers would taunt me and my Mom and so the curl would stay in for days.

The only thread I'm particular about is when doing applique. Amazingly I used silk thread and found it to be very poor for the job- but it was pricey-7.50 !! I used something called
THE BOTTOM LINE- it is made for quilting machines(the underside thread) but it was tin strong and didn't ravel like the silk thread. It was pricey too but it's a big spool and very good thread.

I found the fabric idea Carol Sue mentioned to be true as well- cheaper made fabrics are great UNLESS you plan on spending a great deal of time on an heirloom project(like the 2 yr quilt Im working on!!!!)
I did buy high quality fabric for it- and its a good thing- It may take another 2 years to get done with it!!!!!!!

ok...never had a perm, i do like to stay blonde, no prob in the summer, but jeez in the winter gets dark so fast. I have never been to a "real haircut place" as my kids would say, my sister does it for me, or i do it myself.

Suzanne...those mean old quilter ladies..see exactly why i never take a class. I have joanns brand rulers. I dont use that gutermann thread, my machine hates it..coats and clark for me. My machine I sew on the most is a singer i purchased 7 yrs ago at Walmart for $100 or maybe 125 but not more than that. The rest of my machines are vintage 1898-1956 or so. My cheap singer has probably more hours of sewing on it than most peoples...BERNINAS..so when they tell you u need better...tell em to come talk to me. Sewing is supposed to be cheap, that is why women have always been able to sew even when times are tough.

Ok 2 more pgs to read

oh btw...Steph...I am trying to email you but it keeps getting kicked back to me...

I had to read all the pages too. I sewed today hurray for me sounds mor fun then cleaning.
Ruth for thread all you need to remember is cotton thread for cotton
polyester for polyester and so on. Brands are usually promoted like sewing machines.
Cheap machines come with quite a few different stiches vintage usually does straight that would have been the only reasoning for the lady to say you couldn't use it for quilting. But I have taught people quilting with only zigzag and straight stiches on their machines.
Hair I am not going there mercy we all got it as kids. Not going grey either till I am crippled.

i finally feel good about sewing now, most of my house is clean for the first time in months..probably not some peoples standard of clean, but clean enough for me to quit stressin!

Wally world I forgot here anyways does sell 100% cotton but it does not feel as thick so I think that is thread count or something. I don't use it for quilts all the time especially gifts but other projects I do. Here with quilting stores we also have fabricland which is as good as quilting stores just cheaper with sales.

My kenmore has 24 and I use it all the time too. Never had a problem yet only had to by feet attachments for different tasks but they were not expensive.

Okay, pot luck was half a disaster! Hubby didn't go so I had all 3 and we were supposed to eat at 7p.m. but it was 7:45p.m. when we finally started eating and then I am trying to get plates for all 3 and Olivia decided to grab my coffee and dump it on my plate! Aaaggghhhh!!! I took cake so then when we were leaving I was trying to get out the door in the dark with 3 kids, a plate of food and almost a whole cake! We just got home and I have to be honest I am not mad at hubby anymore, just very happy to be home! He even had a fire started so it's nice and cozy! Now I am on a major cleaning spree! I can't stand my house anymore! I know it's almost 9 here, but I am totally in the mood to clean!!!!!!

I remember days like that Monica!! Now I remember why my hair is gray!!!!

Ok Here's my new apron for me- its the one in one of MJs Mags.
Quite honestly the pattern is cut for very small ladies-not ME!!!
The arm hole were even tight so I will make some adjustments on the next one.

I added some width to it with an elastic band- so I still just slip it over my head. Once fitted properly I think its a pretty pattern.
