Too bad about the chickens Ruthie. I just heard on the news about a small town north of me that is now allowing chickens, so maybe things will change. I got your mail~will get on it.;)
In the meantime, ck Craigslist for people selling eggs~that's what I'm going to do~get someone local to supply me. I don't use that many, but want some good ones for baking now and then.Hubs is allergic to eggs~bummer. Save your current egg cartons~you usually get a discount for supplying your own cartons.

Carol Sue~wow you got a treadle. How did I miss that? Yeah for you!!

Ronna~yes we must see your new haircut.

I will try a couple of chickens and use a make shift coop at first. We'll see if the neighbors say anything or do they let it go. I did see chicks on Craigslist and know of a couple of people I can ask.

I think eventually things will change but it will be a slow process.

Bonne~I just wanted to make sure you got it~a couple of other emails got lost in cyber space.

Ruth, sorry to hear about your chicken problems, I too think you should just go ahead and get a few. Neighbors can be a real adventure sometimes. It just makes life so unpleasant. Some people are just so mean spirited. It is a mystery to me.

Still quite cement headed here but I have 150 nine patches done, so I guess tonight I will try and put a top together. I have a real fondness for what I think of as "hired man" quilts, I love the old simple sweeties, the nine patch, the really simple old patterns. Sometimes I'll see a quilt in an old book that is 40' by 95" and I figure thay must have had a really skinny family member or hired man. I just make my quilts whatever size seems reasonable to me. When i was making a churn dash quilt years ago which involved me having to pay close attention I was sure I had a pretty good sized rectangle, but it was only a square. I didn't really care, it is still a nice quilt to snuggle up in. I was just so tired of the pattern.

I guess I better go start cooking something for supper. It is very cold here, the wind is just howling. Because my house sits on a little knoll it makes the wind sound so dramatic. I think I'll just make some nice soothing casserole.

Carol Sue, a treadle! How fabulous, I want to see a picture. Mine is still in the back of my car because of the massive snowplowed lumps in front of my house. There was nowhere to put the snow but right up against the nouse, we do have a little path cut in so we can get inside, but It would be difficult to wrestle a treadle through. I'll have to be patient, not one of my strong suits....

Ronna, you have to attach your blog address on your signature so we can get there to admire all your loot. I can't remember how I got there before....but I remember all those wonderful quilts and purses....

Autumn, we need some more baby pictures of that little sweetie. I just love looking at all these sweet babies. Emilia looks so wonderful on jess. blog. Makes me smile ...

Right, off to the kitchen....then I can sew again.

Ronna, Yes, the little girl mannequin will have to come to me one day so I can freak out some folks..LOL I can see Miss Morgan raising hell at her already. :0)

Karin, that's so funny about the kids under 55..my sister is a fulltime RVer..she is 57..she talks about all the places and how everyone is having a second childhood..

Bonne, 20 years ago when I was selling dozens of eggs a week I was like you are now with your canning jars..When people would not return their egg cartons to refill I started telling them to bring a bucket to put them otherwise the price was higher...amazing how many started bringing their cartons..LOL

YAY Ruth...another crusader!! Get those hens and dare them to tell you what to do! LOL Hey, ya gotta try it...I've never discovered a rule that was set in concrete.

Hi, everyone. Ok, I went to an auction tonight and they sold a Pfaff treadle for $35 - thinking I should have bought it. I never saw a Pfaff one before so wasn't sure. I'm going to one on Sat that is supposed to have a Minnesota. We'll see...anyways, I hung around for 3 hrs because they had some green mason jars (we are using them at my daughter's wedding reception to hold the wild flower centerpieces) and they never got to them -auction to be continued on 3/26...

Suzan- the mason jars sound great for a wedding!!!
We used old large jars for a cookie buffet at my daughters wedding last year.

Here's a peek at sweet Wendy Rayne- yes- Wendy Rayne as in windy rain with her sweet cousin Abby.

How adorable! With your niece's new one you will have a cute bunch of girls running around there!

Any ideas to share for cookies for the cookie table at the wedding? This is a fairly new concept to me, we didn't have cookie tables at weddings where I come from.

I never had heard of it but my oldest daughter suggested it.
We asked for family recipes and filled the jars with them.
Also added large labels to honor the family member who supplied the cookie or recipe.
We also placed a huge decanter of lemonade on the same table and planned on making it kid-friendly. It was a big hit and we ran out of cookies!!!!!!!

Autumn, what a sweet picture. I know I've mentioned it before, my children say I have to settle for imaginary grandbabies, so I really enjoy seeing pictures of all these new babies.

I just counted up the blocks I made the last two days, 167, that's pretty good, of course they are just the easy peasy ones, but it will be fun putting the tops together. I can tell I'm on a tear, I wish I could get these things put together and quilted. I have a friend in my quiolting group who does machine quilting, but that is not an option for me at the moment. I could make some tied quilts, I haven't done that for a long time. I like them too, but there is something so nice about hand quilting and machine quilting. Well I'm just babbling, I better top up the kitties' water bowls and head off to bed.

You women are such a treat, I can't tell you how much I appreciate this forum and the amazing people I have met here. I am grateful.

Karin

Karin, I'll say you are on a tear!! Tied quilts are wonderful...I can remember one of my Aunts having the heaviest down filled quilts..I would stay with her in Ohio at certain times and she had an upstairs loft with a couple of twin beds..she would tuck me in and put several pieced and tied quilts over me..oh, I can still feel the loving spirit of those quilts. Momma told me she loved the piecing part but didn't see well enough to handquilt so she tied all of what she made. I think they are a category of their own in the world of quilting.

Oh Karin, love the kitties. Rootabega, such a cute name. We had a snowshoe Himalayan...had belonged to the people across the street with terrible twin boys who terrorized the poor kitten. My daughter "cat napped" him and after a week or two, even if he went out he came right back in our house. Think he was brain damaged from the kids throwing him off the roof (really), was never too smart but a sweet boy.
Love seeing the babies. With my one and only grandson almost 19, I have to enjoy other little ones too.
Think my "jackpot" for the day was a bag with two tiny Steiff bears with tags and little booklets. One is mohair and yes, the tiny buttons in ears and tag. One has a hang loop and the other a keychain thingie. They put $2.99 on Ty Beanies which aren't worth much these days...but had $1.99 on the bag....yippppeeeee for me. Main info in German. I wonder if they were part of a collectors club goody or souveniers. Mine now, they get along well with Boyds :) A Boyds Bailey plush came home with me too, dress, hat, sweater and little pot of flowers. She was $2.99, the moose with his sweater was 59 cents.
Oh, and a bag with a very old fragile baby bonnet that might fit the new Gorham doll who needs one. Another bigger bonnet too, not as old but great lace edging. Was at Goodwill, started at $20 for the two and was marked down several times and then sent next door to the bargain bin waiting for me at $4.
