Sharon, We had exactly the same experience, we took some baby furniture to the Salvation Army and they couldn't accept them but a lady dropping things off wanted them as her neice was having a baby soon. My husband dropped them off at her house right then and they were thrilled, and we were happy to get rid of them!

Bonne, the soap sounds great! My sister, her friend and I are supposed to get together for a weekend this month to figure out how to make soap...I've been doing alot of reading on it so we have an idea what we are doing...I'm sure we will start out with something easy and just be thrilled if it works out for us! Seems like there alot of girls on here that make their own soap. Do you sell yours?

Used to sell some here & there, but now just make it for gifts and our own use. It's a good "self sustaining" skill to learn.

Well, I had a total spill typed out about what I think of this President and what I think of this stimulus package but erased.

A quick summary of what I think...

The stimulus package is crap!!!!!!!!!! A total waste of money!!!!!!! Everyone is Washington is brain dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There...I feel a bit better.

Steph, tell us how you really feel :)
Good to get it all out, even if you did delete and give us just a very condensed version.
When they were showing the huge stack of papers and being rushed to pass it, no way could a congressman/woman be able to read it all. I wonder if they ever do a synopsis of all the stuff added to it that shouldn't have been.
Kinda like...don't like this pork on page 996, better read what it's about first. Doubt it, but in a perfect world...............

Alright Stephanie. I can say that I didn't vote for the president.
I don't like the plan either, but it looks like we are stuck with it. I heard that we are going to be further in debt, especially with all the added spending added. I am glad that a lot of it was removed, but all the wasteful spending should have been removed.

Well, I spent this afternoon cleaning up things a bit, waiting for the dishwasher to stop so I can wash some pots in the sink. So I have spent some time looking at everyone's blogs. Such fun. I posted a picture of my favorite town in Maine, well, what is left of it...

Go to my latest blog post and you'll see where I'm at and hope that there are a ton more that think the way I do so that we can at least stand together on it. Remember the difference between a republic (which we are supposed to be) and a democracy.

OTHERWISE, I canned 9 qts of chili and have 2 loaves of sourdough rising, plus vacuum sealed over a dozen bags of pork chops that Red smoked today.

Hey Monica, I forgot to mention that the $235 million for contraceptives went right along side with Nancy Pelosi's interview last week....So basically she is saying that if the state programs are funded with all this money to put towards contraceptives (to prevent births) it will reduce the money that the state programs pay out for food stamps, medicare, and other free aid. In short (without saying it) she is saying the economy will be stimulated if less are born in the United States thus less have to be helped with state programs. Supposededly this money was pulled from the package....

I think she needs to go live in China.

Supplying free condoms doesn't mean they'll get used. Even if they were put into the envelope with the food stamp card or welfare check. Even with all the purse strings tightened in the 90's, CA is still way too much an easy welfare state.

There is still 1 billion in money for educational programs including courses on sexually transmitted diseases! The 2 that really get me are the 3 billion for "neighborhood stabilization" which part of that money will go to ACORN which is under federal investigation and 30 million to restore wetlands in the San Francisco Bay area including money going in part to protect the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse! How does that stimulate the economy??? Okay, I will shut up now!

Steph, how about a slow boat to China?!!!

Nancy Pelosi is an idiot. I heard her on NPR a few months ago, giving an interview on her book. In both the book and the interview she proudly states that when she and her husband were first married, they purchased a home, their first, somewhere near San Francisco. After the closing she discovered that the previous owner was a registered Republican and she would not move into the house. She was quite proud of that. Really? I don't think we will see too much bipartisanship on her part. Nothing about this "stimulus" package is going where it is truly needed. Ggggggrrrrrrrrr. I have written so many letters to my senators and congressmen, they are probably tired of hearing from me!
Maybe we could take a collection and get them all a ticket to China!

Bonne~great links. I don't know what direction our country is taking here. It is crazy when we look at those who are leading our country~not just the president.

Don't worry, the 20-somethings that voted the libs into office will take care of us. Um-hum.....

I'm so glad most of us here are on the same page. We can form a community and take care of ourselves when we secede Booooo Yahh!! Hone your survival skills now so you'll have plenty to offer the group.;)

I got another wrap dress cut out~an embroidered "girly" camo, plus fished out another embroidered (with bees!)lighter shade of denim for yet another. I picked those up last year at Joann's clearance.Jess sent me an Ebay link to a cute pink sewing machine (vintage)~that got me to surfing Craigslist. I cannot believe the prices people are asking lately for vintage machines! I used to see them all the time for $25-$50, and now they START at $100. What the heck?

Bonne, I am steering clear of Craigslist right now! I am afraid I may run across a treadle and hubby is telling me to get rid of stuff since we are moving at some point! I really dread the thought of moving! Actually I guess it's not so much moving as it is packing!

Where has Jess been????

OH, bummer Naomi!!!
Yes Monica, a treadle is extra to lug around, but once you get more permanently situated, pick up the search again. At least you have your other vintage machines available to you to comfort you~lol We'll get you treadling eventually. And always remember, once the kids are grown and move out, you'll want a treadle or similar at each of their homes so you can stitch while visiting. I do! Boys always need something repaired and girls need one just 'cause they do. It's an investment in everyone's future. This is how I helped enable Jessica when she would find a machine and wonder whether to buy or not.hahahahaa!! It's not like we spend a fortune on them~just the opposite in fact!.

Carrie~there is someone in the barter thread. I believe she is from WA state and she has two treadles she would like to get rid of. Go over there and check it out. Is it anywhere near you and go grab it up.
