Karin, Here's the link to the Quilt Mania magazine..it is the #69 issue...I'll bet I can put my hands on it tomorrow..I'll let you know. oh well, I forgot the link..LOL here it is: http://www.quiltmania.com/pages/english/home-quilt/magazine/sous-rubrique-mag-uk/overview.php
Carol Sue, Tea soothes the soul among many other things. I love my Earl Grey.
Bonne, you need to do a google map to see how far you are from me. I've decided to go back to the "hanging rods" like I had it many years ago..You can come help me fold and hang....now the major issue is hangers..the plastic ones do alright if you don't over do it but the wooden ones are sooooo good and it looks pretty too...need to start watching the dollar stores for them...Walmart used to be cheap on them but they aren't anymore. That piece of fabric I have is tiny but I got it with the intent of maybe one day reproducing it....the Japanese are reproducing alot of American made fabric designs...

Steph, are you going to use acid free tissue between the wooden hanger and the fabric? So many chemicals used anymore to treat wood and all. I've collected wooden hangers for years, both the crocheted and those with printing on them from hotels and such. Use them all the time, but hard to find anymore. Those with crochet usually are with the thick thread or yarn and I like the older ones. Picky picky picky. I'm on the sick list, sinus crap went into my lungs and likely the beginning of pneumonia. Rx was written wrong yesterday and ins kicked it out, so had to wait until today and make the drive or pay $162 for it. If I wasn't bringing up ugly stuff, I would not have gone to get it. Know my body too well that it's not time to wash the junk out and ignore it. Think it's the first time I've gotten this bad since I started getting the vaccine, but used to have pneumonia every winter. |

I know it, Ronna..the same goes with the plastics..I wonder how many years it would take on a wooden hanger to do the damage to the fabric..this fabric storage can get expensive... Maybe it'll get sold before the damage is done is all I can say at this point. Once I can see it hanging again I can decide what to start cutting up next! LOL The collection never was intented to be something that I just admire and never touch. I was selling it on a regular basis up til about 4 years ago when all the moving commenced again...LMAO So getting setup again and able to see it again will spur me back into motion to sell!!! So I can COLLECT somemore!! LOL
And I'm so sorry for your sinus crap. I used to have chronic sinus and it seems to have let up somewhat since my gut wanted to take the lead on painful issues...You take care and let us know how you are doing..don't forget to take your meds!
Thomas is suffering terribly this week with hay fever I guess..kind of early but he deals with it every year.

LOL....No, Bonne would be using the excuse that she needs to sew on my machine to try it out and she'd leave with a new vintage wardrobe! I can hear her now....oh, it sews great...wait til you see this pattern I found and how it sews up "in my size"...LOL
Carol Sue on the other hand would have found a stack of her liking and commenced to sitting on it for the whole visit...LOL hehehe....Carol Sue you hear that?..kind of a private joke that we have..LOL

Ronna, sorry to hear you are suffering with sinus related problems, pneumonia is nothing to fool around with. You just take good care of yourself, these sinus things are always such a siege. Not fair!
Yes Steph, I think we would all love to come and pat your fabric. There is something about the older stuff that just brings back these feelings of just messing around with cloth, breaking my mother's Featherwight when I was kid. I swear, I must have gotten fabric fever from my mother's side of the family. My grandfather was a tailor and my grandmother did all this fancy Hardanger embroidery or cutwork. My mother hated it, considered it a waste of time, so she never saved any of it.
Bark cloth reminds me of my childhood too, that thick slubby quality to it, and the wonderful designs. I guess I need to go look through some of my fabric books for a visual fix.
I should get my car back in a week or so. My brother is lending me some dough, so that is a tremendous help. I'm still feeling frantic about the whole experience with the local creepy repair place...
Sun is out, wind is howling, I got my girl home, so i'm fairly content today. Pills, coffee, and then I better get sewing. Pry my way off this computer and get my block exchange blocks started...

Thanks for the idea Teresa!! I'd just planned to bring a few "empty" suitcases~MMWWaaaghhhhh!!!!! 1400 miles! I feel like I'm a million miles from everyone!! I either have to travel over mountains to go west or endless prairie going east. Now I know why Denver got settled~people were just plain tired of traveling~lol I'll never forget seeing that first blue haze of mountains when I first drove in from the east when I left MN. After all that boring flatland of Nebraska and eastern CO I thought I'd finally found OZ. LOL The fact that my radio had crapped out in my car in Omaha didn't help matters either. Oh, geez, that was 30 yrs ago.... ANYWAY.....Home Depot sells multipacks of wooden hangers for under $5. I bought several sets and completely eliminated the plastic hangers in my closet. Only downside is they are MADE IN CHINA. Oh, yes, Barkcloth curtains. That reminds me of aunties homes and grandma's lake cottage.

Autumn, if at first you don't succeed (or goof up) try try again! When I win the lottery, I'm going to buy you all several of these bread pans from Lehman's http://www.lehmans.com/jump.jsp?itemID=57&itemType=PRODUCT&path=1%2C2%2C670%2C696%2C700. Karin, OMG Hardanger! That's right, you're Scandinavian too. I cked out a book at the library on scandinavian embroidery once and it reminded me so much of home. What's really interesting is that some of the designs you'd swear were Native American.

WOW! I can't believe what the seller got for the 1944 apron pattern ($44.99). My new neighbor is getting some of her mother's vintage patterns in a couple of weeks, and said that I can have some. Man, I hope that there is one of these apron patterns in there.

Ok~ starter ladies~I have some questions.
I have the starter from Ronna. I am supposed to add equal amounts of flour and water to it daily. Does it matter what kind of flour. Should I use white, wheat, or bread flour?
Do I leave my starter on the counter or in the fridge? I have mine in a Pampered Chef batter bowl. It has a plastic cover. Should it be covered tightly or just with a towel?
I appreciate any help girls.
I can't believe she sold that pattern for $44.99. I would love to find some vintage patterns. I need more time to go to the local thrift stores.

Sharon, I know it..some of the vintage patterns go for a mint....wasn't me!! LOL That was a unique one so I'm not surprised what it went for.
I have an infant's bonnet pattern from 1950 that I saw on Ebay a few years back sell for $82.00..I'm so happy I own it..."Retirement Money" one day..LOL I always figured that I'd never starve since I could sell a pattern and a piece of fabric here and there to buy food.
Did y'all go look at the vintage piece of fabric with the repro?? http://www.queenofdreamsz.blogspot.com/

Steph~Yes, I would watch Bonne very closely if she comes to "help" you with your fabrics. LOL~I am going to check it out on your blog now.
Teresa~Can't wait to see those pics.
Ronna~Sorry you are feeling sick. I hope you get better soon.
I think I am naming my starter Emma. Sounds like a good name.

Ideally, organic flour, but it's expensive. Use filtered water if possible. I use Hungarian high altitude bread flour most of the time because that is what I'm using to bake bread. Leave it out at room temp, if you don't use it regularly just refrigerate it and feed it 1x week.

Stephanie, I did a search for the pattern on Google, and it is rare. One sold on a website, but don't know what it sold for.

Stephanie, I was looking at that apron pattern and was thinking that it would be easy to make. There are similar apron patterns out there, and the chicken would be easy to do. the tail feathers are just ric-rack. What do you think? I am thinking that I am going to try to make one.
