I don't think so cause they really were not sure which way to run I had to stop and wait until they figured it out. I hope thier mama is near by.
Remember that young girl that they let have 8 babies she already had 6 at home and I think they said she is 14 or 16. My gosh what was that doctor thinking or was he |

Gals, it feels like we are under a waterfall again. The rain is coming down hard, and has been steady all today, and most of yesterday. Still more rain to come.
My dh was coming home today with our oldest son, when he spotted a couple of news crew around the corner from us. When Gary inquired, he learned that a woman left a murder suicide note. She left with her 10 and 5 year old boys. They put out an Amber alert. I feel so sorry for children who are caught up in these things. I hope that they find the boys safe and sound.

Ronna, that brooch is something! I'll watch to see what the final price is.
Sharon, that's so aweful! I've read several articles lately of husbands killing wife and kids then themselves over loosing their jobs....you know they could atleast give the wife and kids an option, right? Nut cases of the world....

Jess, maybe a trip with some stuff at the end of this month..not sure yet..have to watch the weather..there was 4 inches of snow on the ground day before yesterday.
Tuesday Morning stores are great...you just have to dig through and pay attention....lots of good deals....lots of not so good deals..
I lost my pressure cooker, water bath canner and strainer/sauce maker in the chaotic move after the sell of my cottage....I seem to remember things sporadically that have disappeared...(along with my memory...LOL)

The garden ~ I already have around 1200sf give or take (probably more once I get edging stuff like blackberries and more strawberries and grapes in), so I'm getting an extra 530sf in my neighbor's yard. Oh baby. Despite sick kids, I'm still in a good mood.
Canning... oh heavens, that sucked me in starting in 2005 when I ran out of my grandma's secret recipe relish (and she died in 2001). Apparently now I'm getting roped into showing gals in my mom's group how to can this year since they've dubbed me the "expert." If I get a little extra free labor this year out of the deal, I'm good with it.
All American 921 (by Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry?) is what our pressure canner is I believe. Metal seal, I can fit 7 quarts and 7 half-pints or 18-19 pints in it, it's awesome. Even had a jar of beans fall apart in it one night, but I didn't discover it until the next morning (I let 'em cool overnight). Hubby found a killer deal on ours. There's tons of posts tagged "canning" on my blog. I like taking photos.
And finding a good, old fashioned cider press for less than a fortune is like searching for the holy grail sometimes. We pretty much lucked into ours. And yes, the Victorio or Squeezo strainer is pretty awesome. My 5yo and 2.5yo would fight over who gets to turn the crank. Less work for me.
And honestly, if you're willing to take the plunge, canning will just become second nature after the first few tries where you freak out a little bit and worry about the canner exploding (mine doesn't - it has safety tabs that won't let the lid come off if something does happen to explode). In 2005 I canned a double batch of relish and 5 pints of applesauce. 2006 I did lots of relish and a few other things like jams I think. 2007 I went whole hog with pickles, peach pie filling, applesauce, salsa, green beans, vegetable stock, chicken stock, spaghetti sauce with sausage, all kinds of jams, apple pie filling, blah blah blah. This year I did a fair amount, but still had applesauce left from last year so I didn't hit up my orchard guy for too much more than deer apples for canning/freezing cider (also canned grape juice, strawberry lemonade concentrate, tomato sauce, cherry pie filling, and a few other new-to-me things). This coming season I'm adding pears and a bigger quantity of apple goodies, possibly apricots if I can wheedle some out of another neighbor, peaches, cherries from another neighbor, need to figure out what to do with my italian prunes, and so on. I sure hope the girl's walking by this summer or at least crawling well so I can let her futz around the yard/garden around me.
Jessica ~ Are you thinking of my pantry or someone else's? http://www.xanga.com/LannaM/688236066/one-room-down/
Carrie ~ You also need the pressure canner for green beans and soup/broth stocks - even vegetable stock. I'll admit to experimenting a little bit with things or not being exact on some measurements, but I don't plan to mess around with botulism.

Autumn, I am glad your friend is going to start writing again! I posted a comment on her blog!
I can't wait to can again! My mom used to can all the time when I was a kid! We had a huge garden and I remember canning tons of tomatoes and plum! The plums were always so yummy to have in the winter! I did some peach-pineapple jam last year that went very fast so I am going to do a bunch this year! I really need to figure out how to plant a small garden!
Linda, Don't be nervous. I hope you have a wonderful time! Just keep the mace handy in case he turns out to be a nut case! haha, just kidding! You will have to let us know how it goes !!

Linda~I hope you had a great date.
I want to plant a large garden this year and can. I have never canned before. I really need to start reading up on it. First, I am reading on organic gardening.
That mom with the octuplets is looking for money. She wants to sell her story for $2 million. Crazy and sad.

I am thinking that the docs used her for a practice and learning experience medical. It was novel to the docs and a challenge. Of course maybe they wanted some recognition in doing something special. We all have egos....being there to be part of history probably helped their medical career...they could brag about it. Don't ya think?
The mom certainly is a character! If she lives with her mom then I am wondering what her mom thinks.

Take the canning plunge Ruthie! I've done the hot water bath and now need to graduate to pressure canning. Lanna's pantry is inspiration that it CAN BE DONE!!(with 3 little "helpers", no less) I have to clear out even the cats when I can~no distractions; out to the kitty korral. But then I'm not a multi-tasker & need to focus on the task at hand. It did take me a year or so to accumulate the supplies I needed though.

Good pantry Lanna. Not the one i had in mind, but stocked full none the less, i think the chic i was looking for is in missouri, has 2 dairy cows as well, and either 5 or 7 kids...do you girls know who i am thinking of?...I think my mind is slipping earlier that I had anticipated.
Anyway, yes I think you are right we will just have to try our hand and see what works. I always like to know exactly how something is going to be before I jump in as my time is so scarce. None for wasting. And no food for wasting trying things out.
I have at least 1 1/2 plantable acres, I need to get on that. Both my apple trees are producing tons, even though one fell over 2 summers ago in a storm, it just keeps on tickin! I have my chickens on the way, 12 Barred Rocks. I may get a few others, but the idea was to only have 8, we will see how good I am at sticking to my own rules. My grapes were prolific last year. I lost all my persimmon trees to the electric company, they came in and cut em all in 1/2, not down, in 1/2...so now they are 15 ft tall posts basically. Those tree guys never make trimming look beautiful, I don't know why.
Ruth...treadle. Let me know when you want to pick it up, no hurry. She has already had it for at least 18 months. I had her go get it for me...I won it on ebay, then never went to get it. I think I may have 2 identicals. If memory serves me, it is a late 1800s Singer Sphinx with shuttle. I honestly cannot remember. I have too many. I do not need to be a hoarder. It might be a red eye, not sure. There was a reason I bought it, but now I cannot think of why. It has a beautiful tiger top I believe, not sure again tho, but I know it works and is in great condition. I cannot remember if it has a belt, but those are like 9.98 at sewing places, or severasl for sale on ebay around the same $ amount. Geez...why did I forget for awhile that connecticut was next to Rhode Island. See...i am losing my mind.
Linda...good luck on the date. You are brave 2nd date at your house.
Mace...always a good idea Monica.
Alright, well, Bonne...I got my regular machine up and running last night. Clean as a whistle and oiled now...so I made a cute little Russian doll with two babies. Another b'day party to go to this afternoon.

This is 3rd date. I've been told I am brave..I hope he doesn't think I am bold! I'll just tell him to go home by 10 pm. I am 59 years old and he is 61 so at this stage in life the sex drive isn't the focus like when we were younger. To people this age it is more about companionship. I have heard that you should marry someone you like to talk to because when you get old ..that's all you have. Makes sense to me!

Linda, good luck on the 3rd date. We have a friend, who I would say is in his 70's or so, but not sure exactly. Anyhow, his wife passed away a couple of years ago now. He has found a woman who is so sweet and is a great companion. They do everything together, like going on trips, to just simple things like playing checkers, etc.

Jess~Can in touch with your friend and let me know when it's a good time for her. I prefer the weekend so hubby can take me. I am not good with directions. But if that doesn't work I will figure something out. I can't wait. Thank you sooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It sounds like you have a great little farm there. If you ever come to Conn to visit your friend we will have to meet up. Have fun at the birthday party.
Bonne~I definitely am trying to get everything set up to grow and can some food this year. I can't wait to try it.
Linda~Have a great date.
Off to see Lanna'a pantry. If you ever remember who's pantry the other one was, don't forget to tell us. I would love to see it, Jess.

When Larry and I remarried 15 yrs ago, 26 yrs after we divorced, we figured we had at least those 26 to make up for what we missed. We were two days past 16 and 19 the first time, so now we have fun with a bit more maturity and much more money for our toys and what we want to do. We haven't traveled as much as we talked about, due to buying a house and getting dogs, but still get away and enjoy life. As my mother told us, make the most of what you want while you can still do it. She was still traveling the world with her gentleman friend into her 80's. |
