Steph, yeah, it looked like mostly junky stuff to me too, just wanted to remind you of options for stuff if it's not local. Bidders were getting the price up too, so one's trash really is another's treasure. Oh yeah, Jordan would love the fur apron, if it was real fur not faux, unless he's gone PETA. Very expensive taste in everything. After I managed to get him an appt with a casting director on one of his trips to SoCal, he decided he would have a marble swimming pool at his house when he got famous. Hasn't happened yet, probably getting a bit late, he's going to be 40 this year. I was very good to him when he came to stay, took him wherever he wanted to go, some many miles away. When I left SoCal, didn't have film/TV studio connections anymore and he had no use for me. I'll take photos of some of what I have, lots of really nice rhinestone stuff. |

Carol Sue, that foot massage sounds great. I love to get them and give them. My daughter gave me some peppermint foot lotion and it was wonderful.Sometimes I find some, but our stores run more to the bag balm and hoof creams. Come to think of it, this winter maybe I should get some of that.
I spent a little time this afternoon looking at old kitchen utensils on eBay. Always lots of fun. When Ronna sent me some sailor fabric she also included a great old red handled pastry cutter. it is just like the one I remember my mother having in the house I grew up in. It is funny how attached we become to really basic things that have been part of our households growing up. I have my mother's little wooden bowl and nut chopper, and every time I use it I remember cooking with my mother when i was little.
I tried to make cinnamon rolls yesterday amd then I burnt them. I left the rest of my bread dough to rise all night, and at least that came out fine after all. It's weird because I baked some bread last week and it rose beautifully, and I know the house wasn't very warm then either. I guess I just should bake bread a little more often. Years ago i baked bread a lot. Of course when you have a family in the house it gets eaten up quickly.
Ronna, I can hardly wait to see your rhinestone jewelry. My daughter loves that stuff, and has a few bracelets and a couple of really cute necklaces. I have a few old pins, I love pins and wear them often. My favorite rhinestone one has one stone missing so when I see rhinestone items I always check them out, hoping to find the right one. It is a good excuse to check things out once in a while. I love looking at everyone's collections of things.
Steph, I found about half of my polka dot fabric, but I had a little bag with five fat quarters of polka dots and I'm blaming the cats for its disappearance , though I know full well I'm the one that lost it. at least I have plenty of time to find it, and my sewing area might get cleaned up a bit while I'm hunting for it.
I have almost finished the minis, three waistbands to go...

Karin, when you mention pins, I remember my mother, sister and I all shared about a half dozen "bug" pins. They were all different types of winged bugs~so cute!! Who knows where they are now though. lol Yes, certain kitchen items really bring back memories. I have almost nothing of my families stuff. A rocker and an immigrant trunk and my dad's pocket watch, but when I see certain things, they remind me of stuff we had. ;)

Carrie...the answer is none...I only work well under pressure and very close deadlines and it's only Feb 1st. Steph, yes to all of the above. Have a book on costume jewelry, need to look at it better. Have seen the "L" and didn't know what company it belonged to. I pass up lots that you would love to have and for less than what the sellers are asking on Etsy. much less. Karin, if I knew what shape and size rhinestone you are missing, I could probably find one for you. Somewhere, I have a bunch a friend left with me almost 30 years ago that she didn't want. She'd gotten into dressing vintage and bought a bunch. Have not thought about them for years, know they haven't gone to live elsewhere. There's still a box of red/yellow/green/black wood handle kitchen stuff, what my daughter did not take. I used to have it on the kitchen walls, but no walls here, it's all cupboards and I'm not complaining. I bought so much of it in the 80's when it was a dollar or less usually. Not now. Okay, back to packing boxes and Tyler can have the computer again. |

Ronna, now you know what I like..please keep a look out for me and I'll gladly buy it..it doesn't matter if the clipon part is in tact or if one is missing from the pair...You will definitely have to read your collector book on the Lisner and other makers back then..you may have passed up some real valuable treasures and don't realize it. It's interesting how this stuff pops up in different parts of the country and the difference in pricing being such a wide gap.

Ronna ~ Oooh, I love seeing how things worked all those years ago. Please let me know if you scan or take photos of those old home floor plans or whatnot from those magazines you got. Every time I pass by an old, abandoned house that's 60-100yo with just clapboard siding, I always have an urge to go inside and see how it was laid out. Luckily I refrain so I don't have a roof falling on me, but still. I'm curious.
Stephanie ~ Wow, talk about Murphy coming and visiting your new cabin. Well hey, with you there to take in the scenery and boss around the workers, it should get done correctly, right?
Sharon ~ Wow, that's quite the apron. What I can't wrap my mind around is that there are 3 bids on it by 3 different people. To each their own...
My mom was up after her college basketball team won their game (yay!), so hubby and I got some extra sleep and she got her grandbaby dose. They just adore her, it's so cute to watch. Didn't haul out the sewing machine though - too many other exciting things around - like baking cupcakes with train aprons on.

My neighbor just emailed me to see if I wanted any of her old crafting things that she was going to donate. That was sweet of her to think of me. Just hope it's not stuff from the 80's. Have I told you how much I detested the crafts of the 80's? Not to mention the fashion. :O My other neighbor had me over one day to look at her patterns that she was getting rid of. Almost exclusively 80's~I almost retched, took a couple so she wouldn't feel bad and swiftly tossed them in the donation pile. Shoulder pads, big hair

Bonne, I have a large bee pin, it's just pewter I think and a big enamel dragonfly pin. I also have a little Navajo bee pin from my childhood. I know where the first one is, the others I hope are somewhere. Bug pins are great! I too hate the fashions of the eighties, really amazingly awful when you look back at some of those things....
Zan and I just dragged six bags of trash down the driveway, that was great. I was going to try and hide my metal crushed mailbox, but I was good and I'm saving it until the big metal pile pickup in the spring. Three mailbox bit the dust last year, I'm tired of purchasing mailboxes, I'm going to have to figure out something that the snow plow doesn't always pick off...
Today I should hear from the car people at some point. They must be the crappiest repair place, but they were the one the insurance company selected for me. Ho hum. I am sure I can spend some time sewing to kill the anticipation.
Steph, I have been enjoying your vintage picture posts, I love all the goofy embroidery patterns, and some of those aprons, they are really something. I particularly like the tiny ruffled cocktail apron. Hard to imagine anyone actually wearing one. I hope your absentee householder problems are resolved soon. It is such a hard time of year to be doing that kind of stuff.
Right, I'm going to go make some coffee....

Good morning, ladies!!
The kids are working on school so I wanted to check in and say hello to everyone. Trying to get everything done before my orthodontist appointment at 11:45. I guess I won't be eating anything good for lunch after they tighten me up.
Ronna~I love vintage kitchen utensils. I have a couple. I especially like the ones with the red or green handles. Such cool finds you get. You make me want to go to all the thrift stores and search for treasures.
I only have six minis left to put the waistbands on. I am so thrilled. Now I need to do the tea cozy and then onto my apron. Can't wait.

hello girls how are you all this morning?
Autumn, sorry you feel icky! what a drag!
Well I posted pics of the last costume and the presents we gave at the fairy party. Not such a magical event, but the kids had fun. That is ok, I will be throwing the faery party of the year in July for my twinnies 5th birthday! So i am just gearing up for that.
I sold 2 acorn cap hats the other day just after I posted pics of Vincent's on my blog, yay!
I think I will start slowly selling more stuff on there, I have tried to get away from sewing diapers. I am just diapered out.
So, Sharon and I are apron swap partners..yay.
Sheryl, I gotta get busy on your tea cozy! Yikes!
Well, off to clean for the day! Lots from my crafting explosion last week that need fixing.

Yeah! Jess~glad you sold the two hats. They were awesome. Hope you sell like crazy. I loved the kid's costumes and the gifts you made. I would love to do that but no one I know appreciates handmade. They always think I'm being cheap when I make gifts instead of buying it. I think your gifts are so great. I wish someone would give my kids gifts like that rather than the same old stuff from the store.
Quick~save Shirley from that towel.

Jess, The party items look great, but the party faeries really are spectacular, what a treat to see those great kids in their great costumes. You are an amazing costume designer.
Just got a call from the insurance guy and then the mechanic's. They don't think the transmission problems had anything to do with my accident so i'm looking at a horrendous repair bill. What a bore. I plan on sulking for a while today. I put up a few random pictures on my blog just because I needed to see something green
Autumn, sorry you are feeling wretched. The couch sounds like a brilliant plan for today.
Ruth, glad to hear you have embraced your machine. It is always good to have one up and ready for results.
Being one of those people who has always thought homemade is better I always find it difficult when I see so many people who have no idea about what that means. It isn't just the item, whatever it may be, it is so much more about the creativity and the knowledge that we can create. And how special all the things we create are because we chose to take the time to do that. When i see how poorly made a lot of things are in stores it only reinforces my faith in all the people who grow organic vegetables, raise organic meat, make wonderful things, etc.
I wish I knew how to knit or sew a new transmission, however I know my limits!
Didn't sleep very well last night, I think i'll try for a power nap and then off to the sewing room.

Karin, there's no end to your talents! Love the log cabin quilt, is that the courthouse steps setting? Hello Kitty has had a long life and keeps repeating. My daughter loved it and she is 46 now. Can't be, I'm not old enough. Don't know how much she kept over the years. Off to work, should have left an hour or two ago, but stayed up too late and didn't want to get up when the alarm sounded at 7.
