I have been wanting a treadle for so long, I remember my mother's, but haven't been able to find any in our area. I'm headed to Ithaca NY next weekend and hitting some thrift stores and flea markets...hoping to find a jar with the paddles to make butter in...a couple other things on my radar also. |

Back on flat land again...The realtor found us a plumber. $450 of material and labor and we are good to go again (crossed fingers)
The heat and air system we knew was the age of the house (8 years) so figured we'd get a few more years out of it...NOPE...it was barely heating the main level much less the lower level (so now we know why the woodstove is in the lower level)....will have to go on and buy that dual heat and air system and get it installed ASAP...but I gotta be there for that...and gotta get some stuff moved in the house so I can stay there and get it done....good grief..something that seems so simple is NOT! So $8000+ is getting ready to be spent now instead of two years from now.
So I sat in my (cold) cabin and watched the swirling snow and the white caps of the mountains in the distance are so beautiful. I passed two cabins that had wood for sale..I'll be having some delivered on the next trip since that's the only way I'm gonna stay warm for the time being.
So that's my adventure in the past 3 days.
Thank Karin, yes, just trying to get stuff moved has proved to be challenge since winter time seems to be producing more snow and ice than usual.
Thanks Monica, Ruth and Jess....no one will take liability for the winterizing NOT being done properly...not a shock..Lots of folks like to be paid for a job but are down right offended when you expect it to done and done right...LOL
And also, remember what the power company did to us new year's week....charging our debit card $925 more that they were supposed and took 5 days for our money to be credited back into our account and were offended that I was asking "what were they thinking about?

Suzan, if Jess and Bonne have their way, everyone will have a treadle machine to call their own. Good luck with your shopping weekend. I have my mil's butter churn and she used it a lot, until margarine was available! The bags of sewing notions I got yesterday at Goodwill included 11 pairs of scissors. 3 that are junk, a couple of Fiskars (one pinkers) and 5 German, 3 of them Henckels and a pair of tiny embroidery from Italy. I've found that thrift shops don't know good scissors from junk and that's a bonus. Very well used darning egg with a handle, some thimbles, handful of seam rippers and lots of old bobbins and English needles. Hmm, no buttons, they must have already sold or not to the floor yet. Fun to see what treasures I can find that someone didn't keep. |

What an ordeal for you Steph. Not at all fun. Nope, hardly ever does someone take responsibility for what they've done or not done. |

Are you yelling at me Miss Bonne? I thought so! and what was I just doing..cleaning out my underwear drawer. Tossed a bunch in the trash that I don't and won't wear again. I'm trying to tell myself I don't have time to look through all the vintage rhinestone jewelry from the back of the drawer. yeah, don't listen well, do I? |

I especially love the old clip on earrings..the gaudy big ones..you know what I mean?

I had to put the meatloaf in the oven so I'm just putting the bread in the laundry room, next time I will try the oven with hot water I'd forgotten about that. I heated our house with a big soapstone woodstove when my children were little. It certainly allowed the bread to rise easily. When I moved to this house I brought over my old green cookstove, you know the ones with the bun warmer over head. My husband loved it because there was a dead fly in the oven temperature window. It amused him no end.
Wow Ronna, I guess I missed the part about the old magazines and the sewing treasure you got. I guess I can relax now that I['m trying to avoid the thrift shops. All the good stuff is in your neighborhood!
It is always so funny to me the things people want to sell. We have this little weekly magazine, Uncle Henry's Sell or Swap and it is such fum to look at. This week's edition has an ad for one bottle of Similac baby formula for five dollars. Are they just numb? I alwaya love the ads for the animals too, someone was offering a dog, part wolfhound, part Husky, part lab, four years old, free for the taking, not housebroken... good luck. This is how we entertain ourselves in the winter here. A few weeks ago someone had an ad for "terror" dogs. My all time favorites are the ads for animals that never tell you what the animal is...
Oh Oh I'm babbling incoherently, better go check my bread....

Steph, when you're ready for rhinestones, let me know. I was just going through some of them. Have 2 butt ugly sets Larry gave me when we started dating-which I've kept all these years, but never worn. he got them from someone traveling through and bartering fake jewels for gas. 1960, that's old enough to be vintage. I only buy what is unusual and price is right. As with so much else. Yes, I'm overwhelmed and feel the heat down my neck from Bonnie. Does it count if I just move the stuff in front of the Bernina and get to sewing??? that's probably what will happen. |

Yes, Ronna. The sewing room doesn't have to be organized at this point (whose is?!) Just get to the machine with some thread and fabric, your new scissors and all your bright ideas. ;) Putting things in their places can come later~you'll get so frustrated from trying to find what you are needing that you'll finally decide it's TIME. lol

Ronna~It looks like you're in a bit of trouble with Bonne. You better get to sewing before there's more trouble. LOL No need to clean that sewing room-just find the machine.
Steph~I would definitely check with that company about getting reimbursed for this. You can't count on anyone these days.
Suzanne~Bonne is on a mission and we will all have treadles. My goal is to have one by this summer. Saving up my pennies. I would love an old jar with the paddles to make butter.
I can't sew in my sewing room because it's in the basement. There isn't any heat down there and if I went down there now I would surely be frozen in less than an hour. I have my machine at the dining room table and am working on my minis. I have some Valentine's hearts I want to sew but I don't think I'll get to it today.

Ronna, lets see..there's a difference between gaudy and butt ugly..I want gaudy and I like colorful..anything that can be taken apart..necklaces, bracelets, earrings....would love some old watches to take apart. And I know Nay is gonna catch that request...I'll share with you, Nay.
And Ronna right now I've got this tiny corner where my machine lives surrounded by a kinds of sh%%..totally unorganized but I'm SEWING..I always wind up with a mess all around me and I honestly I think I must like it that way because it never stays straight for long. If you can get to it and sit down..that's all that's required. Use your dining table to cut them out and lay out what you want to embellish them with.

Steph and Ronna~you would love my neighbor. She is a retired RN and lives with her sister next door. They are like day and night. Glenda and Dotty are their names. Dotty likes things clean and not cluttered. Glenda has collections and stuff everywhere. We were over one day and she showed me her collection of old jewelry-most of it costume and many vintage pieces from years of collecting. Definitely things you don't see much anymore.
Jess~That stinks. Those broken machine faeries need to give it a rest. We don't need broken machines.

Steph, the gaudy ones Larry gave me won't go away, if I kept them the 26 years we were divorced, not gonna part with them now..but do have lots of the flashy w/rhinestones I've bought. I sent a box of watch parts to someone on MJF, don't think I ever got acknowledgment they were received. Hmmm, wonder who that might have been. I have some really cool vintage ones that the big teddy bears wear, but might have more somewhere too. No telling what I might find in the room or storage. Jess, good thing you have stand by machines to use, that's a big help with all the sewing you do. Bet you can fix it yourself, though. When you have time, would be cool to share the pics of the Minnesota, anyway. It's only taken me how many months to take the pic of it.

Ruth, your neighbors made me think of the old tv show "the odd couple"...ooohhh, how I would like to see her vintage costume jewelry collection. Over in Alabama before I moved a lady opened a shop that offered nothing but vintage jewelry...she went to Atlanta to estate sales...she had some real nice stuff. We left and came over to Memphis and I called her to buy some more stuff from her and she'd gone out of business.
When she opened I knew she'd never make it in that small community...nobody was gonna think anything of that jewelry other than "junk jewelry"...She needed to be in a larger city to have had a chance at making it...I wish I could find a way to contact her because I bet she still has alot of it.

OH, Bonne, you know if occurred to me to look at Craigslist after I posted as I hadn't checked there for awhile but I lost that train of thought before I did it...I will need to check those out - how high do you go on them and how do you know how much to offer?
I've been wanting a sewing room for awhile and now that I've been working on the BOM quilt with Beverly and gang I NEED one. So my goal is to turn my daughter's bedroom into a sewing room within the next two weeks - wish me luck! I don't know what I'm going to do with all the furniture in there... |
