Woohoo Bonne, Was that the dark purple or lighter colored one? They have some beautiful stuff but to rich for my blood. I'll have to stick to making my own. Maybe my daughter will let me post a picture of the gown she's making for the Autumn Ball she and my son are going to in November. I'm not sure how close she is to having it finished. I only see her whisk by with it once in a while when she 's working on it and then I do see some of the embellishments when we are out shopping.

i think i'm leaning towards something with out Borders too.. That really is what we are.. We are crossing every State line..
Aside from that I'm fine I think with what ever we choose.. I'm with E. though.. i'd really rather it not be too Cutsey or Corny..

Read some of the "original" Apron Sew along~last few pages is when it all started. Just a matter of emailing Bev (Bee Maven Haven)
I have to give huge kudos to anyone that enjoys sewing fancy costumes & garb. I HATE dealing with those slippery fabrics and difficult trims. It's a definite "detail-oriented lovers" task. I'm all about quick and shortcuts~LOL I have a love/hate relationship with sewing. If it's too detailed, and doesn't go together just right, it gets wadded up and tossed across the room~therefore I avoid projects that are going to frustrate me. The funny thing when people hear you can sew they always seem to offer up, "can you alter something for me? or fix this zipper ? " Ummm......take it to a tailor?

I know what you're saying . My daughter and I get that all the time. Of course for some of the older ladies 70's and up we do it. Some of them have a wealth of information they will share when talking to them and something like altering clothes will get them started on how much they used to sew or what they made and patterns they have around somewhere.

For those that are just popping in and didn't read all the pages over at the other topic..... thought you may enjoy reading the "history of the bee" so you can see the reasons behind some of us wanting to use it as part of our chapter identity.
Elizabeth (botanicalbath) was kind enough to post this info for us and I'm just bumping it forward for others to enjoy
bee
The bee is a sign of industry, creativity, wealth, diligence and eloquence. The Egyptians used it as a symbol of regal power. In armory, it is used to represent well-governed industry. The Emperor Napoleon gave the bee considerable importance in the French armory by adopting it as his personal badge. They also appeared on the mantle and pavilion around the armorial bearings of the empire, as well as on his coronation mantle. The bee is undoubtedly the most popular insect found in heraldry, and even the beehive occurs often as a crest.

I'm fond of "Simply Bee"
and the SLOGAN could be:"Without Borders"
This is only an example....NOT saying this is the name..just throwing out some visuals...I've also got the sewing machine graphics that I'll post so if any other graphics people out there want to play they can..
I like these "old typewriter style" fonts..guess they remind me of typing class and that modern manual machine!! So cool that I can now go download every variation of it under the sun!
Also, the bee can be tinted with a bit of color which would also be dynamite!
Or as a transparent gif...
These are graphics that I designed using the bee graphic that Elizabeth (botanicalbath) posted on the other thread...here is the original bee is anyone wants to play with it...
Okie doke.....more to come...

Here's the Robert Kaufman "Bee Clover" fabric we talked about using for our chapter aprons on the other topic...with as many ladies that are signing up we can purchase a bolt of it easily..
again...not saying this IS the fabric but we have discussed it..

Here is a machine graphic that Elizabeth shared (botanicalbath)
There are soooo many beautiful vintage machines and I know you ladies own a bunch of them..photos can be converted to graphics
Here is a machine graphic that I'm sharing but needs the threading numbers cleaned up which is no problem...I know that me, E- and have heard Jess scream a few times over this! It's a real beauty
Anyway, there ya go..does anyone else have some vintage graphics of "bees and machines" to share?????

That second picture of the machine is really awesome. Wonder how old one like would be?

Here's a little history on the Wilcox & Gibbs machine,
James Edward Allen Gibbs (1829-1902), a farmer from Raphine in Rockbridge County, Virginia patented the first chain-stitch single-thread sewing machine on June 2, 1857. In partnership with James Wilcox, Gibbs became a principal in Wilcox & Gibbs Sewing Machine Company. Wilcox & Gibbs commercial sewing machines are still used in the 21st century.
In 1905 Merrow won a lawsuit against Wilcox & Gibbs for the rights to the original crochet stitch
Sewing machines continued being made to roughly the same design, with more lavish decoration appearing until well into the 1900s when the first electric machines started to appear.

Ok so I guess that's where the merrow stitch came from. Guess I just always thought that was a stitch my mom knew about from way back when never really thought about why it was called that
Like all those graphics. Is that what is being pondered over for the badge thing or is it for something else? I've sort of lost track a little.

yeah..I'm the resident nurse here.:0) gotta make sure he's bundled up, and fed and hydrated. Naomi helps run the sign printer and I do everything in between. I love the apron fabric that has been discussed for the aprons. And like the old bee image.... I was thinking that the name... "Bobbin Bees" sounded cute too. "Bobbin Bees without Borders"
