I have missed so much in two days!! Love the cat cube and the GORGEOUS aprons! What fun to see all of your creations.
Bev: You look awesome in your Ren Faire costume. Maybe next year you and I can get to one together. I promise to "suit up" in the appropriate attire. I am thinking full armor for me.
Denise: I am not kidding about Professional Bull Riding School! My son swears he will be going if the police thing doesn't happen this year. I can almost see it happening in my mind's eye. If there is a pirate school that is probably another option! |

*grumble* My sewing machine needle broke as I was working on my apron! Silly thing! And gathering is uhm...Interesting. I would be MUCH further on my apron if I didn't have to worry about gathering. It makes me wonder if it wouldn't be faster to use elastic to do the gathering for me....
Anyone ever do that?

sure, you can do that too. Just pull the elastic gently while stitching it on. Some sewing techniques (aka: gathering)are lessons in patience though. At least it's taught me some patience, as I like to get things done as quickly as possible and some things , sewingwise, just can't be hurried. LOL

I love gathers but hate to gather. I saw a tip once -- take a piece of embroidery floss and lay it on the fabric where you want the gather. Secure one end of the floss. Then make a wide zig zag over the floss with your sewing machine being careful not to catch the floss in the stitches. Then pull the floos to gather the fabric. I've not tried this but it sounds like a good idea.

Kay-
I will give that a try as I have to do gathers on the shoulders! Thanks!

Hey Brenda.... you know that McCalls redwork pattern you like that you posted on page 1 of this thread? I went to their website, and it is discontinued, but they still have some in stock and you can order it on the website. Maybe you know this already (I didn't go back to read all 36 pages :) But, I thought I'd let you know just in case you didn't have the pattern. I got mine today, and the apron pattern looks just perfect--I can hardly wait to try it!
.....and by the way..... where are Jess and Kathie? Are they off having fun somewhere? Are they off on vacation? Are they off on vacation having fun somewhere without us????!! hmmmmmmmmm....what to do with those girls??

Been out of the loop for a while but so glad to log on to the site today and see the McCalls pattern for an apron (page 1 I think it was) which is JUST what I've been looking for! Also, visited Weston VT and the Vermont Country Store Monday last week and my tomboy, don't make me wear pink, daughter saw an apron in brown with pink polka dots and decided she wants one!!! So, I'm gonna get that pattern (Iguess someone found it on ebay??) and make us each an apron. Hey, if she'll do something girly, I won't stop her!!
I was quite tickled by an early Christmas gift from my husband last night--he found a treadle sewing machine (old Singer just like the one in the black and white photo in the early pages of this thread) and he couldn't wait to give it to me! It's lovely and soooooo cool! It has a cast iron base and has been used for sewing until just the last couple of years. So I need to clean it up some and oil the parts then I can teach myself how to sew on it. I've been using a simple Singer he bought me 18 years ago for our first Christmas and I love it. I hope the transition is easy. We hope to build a new home with solar power so I'm switching over to as many non-electric items as possible.
Anyone have ideas for non-electric blender options?? I know it's off the subject. You can email me at kerriberri67@yahoo.com
Thanks!!
Love the ideas and photos in the thread!!!

Sherl-lyn I have a boy aiming at police work also- he hasn't quite gotten to Bull Riding school but it is probably on the list- he's only 26 and is on his 3rd career-with degrees! I've always said he wants to LEARN and DO everything and so far he is!!!While he's waiting on paperwork he mows grass and drives a LIMO!Isn't that funny!!! My brother was a bull rider and several brother in laws were rodeo clowns and riders etc. I'm not sure which is more dangerous- the police work or bull riding!!! quote: Originally posted by sewgirlie

Carrie M....congrats on that treadle.....you are now an official member of the treadle society.....there are quite a few of us here that own them (or several of them....it becomes addicting). It seems you can find them for a steal! Best that they are in the hands of someone who appreciates them!!!
Here is today's work...
