Jess, If you pass on the sunbonnet, I might be tempted to go for it...love them too. My daughter has one made for her when her dad and I divorced, put together from 40's blocks. I have half a dozen or so, plus a bunch of blocks to put together someday. Just got a sunbonnet days of week transfer from way back in a bag of patterns. Yes, that's a bunch of Boyd's and I have most or all of what I could see. Last time I took them off the guest bed so my son could sleep in it, I stopped counting at 200, just on the bed. Nope, Jerry's fiance is not a nice girl and he'll be much better off without her, just took him a long time to realize it. I try to stay out of my kids business, but told him long time ago I couldn't afford to support her and directly or indirectly, she's cost me a bunch too. I've had to help him out more than a few times. Told him to let her take the truck she loved so much and he hasn't been able to sell cause it's 3/4 ton and a gas guzzler and to keep the Mazda and sell it. At least I can recoup some of my money that way, since I paid for both those vehicles. If she left with what she came with, it would probably all fit in a grocery bag. Also told him to call the ins co right away to take it out of his name and same with the cell phone. I don't even want to think of what she's cost me and probably why I have never been able to really like her. Oh, gotta tell him to be sure to keep the antique diamond ring she wore, until she griped that "he" hadn't bought her a ring and he did. She doesn't need my antique anymore since it wasn't good enough for her. grrrrrr. funny, I didn't realize the forum would bleep my B word in the other post. |

Sharon, It's mind boggling to me what people will give away that belonged to their families. My very nicest christening gown and slip (yes, another of my collections) was on a $20 porcelain doll at the thrift shop. If I were to sell it, could get hundreds easily; it's nicer than most I've even seen on eBay. I think that's why I buy so many textiles, feel like I'm rescuing them, from the dealers if nothing else. Bought a stuffed grocery bag of linens ($20) from a lady; they had belonged to her grandmother. All were stained or had condition issues. I got all the stains out and asked if she wanted them back and she said she didn't. Not sure if selling or giving away family stuff is worse. I make sure my kids know what are family as opposed to what I've bought over the years. |

Ronna, your son is much better off without that girl. He would be living a life of misery. You needed to step in on this one. Your son's happiness is important, and you can see things that he couldn't. I had told my youngest son that he deserved someone better than the girl he was dating. She treated him so poorly most of the time, and I honestly believed that she was using him. They are only friends now, and I prefer it this way.

Jess, if you get the sunbonnet, you still interested in the grandmothers flower garden top? Can I send a cute baby quilt I didn't make for one of the kids? It's yellow, red and green four patch with 3 Bears backing. I need to go get that camera and take photos for you. |

Ronna, I've got (will be in next load) a Christening gown that came from my Daddy's side of the family. It is soooo beautiful..it's the gown and has the long slip under if I remember right.
Yeah, I've been carrying around fragments of old quilt tops and whole quilt tops from that side of the family for 25 years. My dad also gave me his mom's everday china set that she used. If you look at my queenofdreamsz blog www.queenofdreamsz.blogspot.com and scroll down the page to a picture I took of a bunch of collectibles in the cabinet. Look on the top row and on either side is a serving piece that matches the dishes. And I can't remember the name of the pattern but the design is all in JEWEL tones..my favorite.

Sharon, I try to let him talk, since we are close, closer than I am with my daughter. I did put in my two cents today, though. He bought a house because of her, now he's stuck with a house payment plus has been paying the rent on her apt too. Now his job in Utah is falling apart and he may end up back in Reno anyway. When I told him, all that time and money ago, that I couldn't afford to support her too, he was not happy, but over time he's realized I'm right. Put it this way...I could have bought a new Corvette, without trading in the one I have, for what I've paid the past 4 1/2 years. Jerry said today that if he doens't inherit a cent, that's fine cause he knows what I've given him already. |

Steph, you're so lucky to have those family heirlooms. The christening gowns are something strange for me to collect, since my mothers family are Jewish and my dad's family had nothing...his mother died when he was 3, in the 1918 flu epidemic. I'd love to see it when you get it moved. I have been hanging them on the walls in the guest room, better than folded up and stored. Oh wow, amazing how much of the same things we collect..scales! Among the rest, I have a country store cheese cutter/scale. Irons...I just last week bought two sad irons and got a childs one on eBay a couple weeks ago for $10 or so. Have my MIL's kerosene iron with the paperwork and the one my dad gave mother just after the war when he worked in the factory that made them. I've seen that pattern of china before, not too sure I don't have some of it. It's so pretty Oh, another crazy obsession..silverplate, probably have enough for 1000 people to eat at the same time with a full place setting. Sets, mix and match, you name it. Do have mothers Sears Silverplate from the late 40's too, that my daughter tried to steal from me. When I divorced my ex and remarried my first, her father, the whole family thought I'd lost my marbles...now they realize I knew what I was doing. Was in the process of moving back to NV when this all happened, so stuff was packed, in NV, in SoCal. She took the box with the silverware, put it in a brown paper bag and stashed it in the rafters of the railroad tie garage in NV. My ex happened to see it and got it back to me, via my son. Imagine her surprise when she came to Thanksgiving dinner the next year and it was on the table. I never said a word, but her eyes got really huge. We never have discussed it. |

That grandma's garden afghan is so cute. Is the pattern on the one page on that photobucket site the whole pattern ?
Course I asked for bigger print but I still can't read it..need to get my giant magnifier out/ I know I probably won t make an afghan, but as little scrubbies, that I could probably do and complete. Thanks for sharing that pattern, Bonne....Karin

Stephanie, I just visited your blog, I loved all the pictures, especially the crocheted bracelet, is there a pattern somewhere for that or is it yr own design? I know I've got some buttons.....My heart always goes out to those abandoned houses as well, I even rescued one many years ago. There is something old houses have that just speaks of all the possibilities of the lives lived there.
