Hey Ronna, I like moonchildren too. I wonder how they came up with Cancer for a sign.

Actually, zodiac signs have been around a very very long time dating to the Romans and Greeks, long before "cancer" was a widespread disease we all know and fear. So really, we should all be upset with modern medicine for wrecking one of the 12 astrological signs, not upset that the sign is called cancer. As for the origin for why docs named it cancer...beats me and I dont have time to look up etymology of the word cancer and how it relates to the disease, but that will be something interesting for me to research later when I need something to do to keep me occupied.

Cancer, the Crab, plays a minor role in the Twelve Labors of Hercules. While Hercules was busy fighting the multi-headed monster, Hydra, the goddess Hera, who did not like Hercules, sent the Crab to distract him. Cancer grabbed onto the hero's toe with its claws, but barely breaking the rhythm of his great battle with Hydra, Hercules crushed the crab with his foot. Hera, grateful for the little crustacean's heroic but pitiful effort, gave it a place in the sky. The crab did not win, so the gods didn't give the crab bright stars.

Jess...something to keep you occupied??? Like a houseful of children isn't enough? Interesting info, I'll remember that next time I decide to grab onto a toe. Getting crushed....that's happened more than once to me, in various ways. I know where that astrological chart is, just can't get to it. Yes, it's in "the room". Maybe someday I'll be able to call it my sewing room again. Since I was conceived and born in Reno, October very likely was a cold month for snuggling and such.
Thanks for the info

I guess you find some time Jess. Thanks. I never really thought to look it up. I guess because of the word "Cancer" and the way that it affects our society.

Jess, that's great info on Cancer..didn't get the stars but we got the MOON which very very good!

Let's see Ronna is asking do all of us Cancers hoard fabric..well, Sharon has lots to I believe??

Bev, massage and lunch is a wonderful birthday present.

Bonne, I was thinking the same thing about the "so many cancers"...definitely a rash of snowstorms..LOL

OH and Bonne you gotta go request an invite from www.ravelry.com . They are up to over 132,000 members now. The site was a brainstorm sitting in the living room of this girl, guy and their dog..LOL One year ago!!

Absolutely amazing community for the crocheter, knitter, spinner, weaver, etc. It has a 'notebook' area where you add your yarn stash details and patterns and upload your projects..that way when someone does a search for certain yarns everyones projects that used it will pop up. And there are groups to join...100's and 100's of them for every specialty you can imagine..no way to keep up with it but it's fun to surf through and post when something catches your eye. And the true nature of yarn and fiber addicts prevail..everyone is so so nice and love to share patterns and such.

Well Jess, the comment about how you crochet and wind up with triangles and such..well, that's why you'd fall right into Freeform crochet...there are NO rules..mistakes become design elements and you hook it all together. It's addictive fun, fun, fun!

Kathy, I like the story about the spaceship..my two stepsons continue to tell me stuff they did right under my nose 20 years ago..LOL I just knod my head and tell them I can still whip their *** so they better watch what they tell me..of course, they think I'm a total pushover Don't you just hate when you are thinking you're really giving a discipline lesson only to find out they think you're a pushover?? Gotta love them..they both turned out to be responsible adults so I must have done something right.

I don't hold on to stuff for years and years. I periodically have lots of yarn or fabric or beads, but I eventually clear it out within a few years. Divorces help develop a paring down practice, as do smaller living quarters. Although my in-laws hoard for decades and have a storage unit to store their sh#t. (and that's exactly what it is! ha!)Can't wait to go thru all that when they're gone~a big dumpster and a lighter.

Ok.. the 1st one says: " The Home & Family are the very core of existance of those born under the sign of Cancerm True Homebodies." Seems to go on to say they REALLY enjoy their food..& want to make sure EVERYONE around them does too!!! "Though they prefer the 4 walls of their comfortable homes, They do have an ambitious side."

"Ruled by the Moon, Cancer has as many moods as the Moon has faces, & is capable of going from laughter to tears in a New York minute !"
" Since the Moon also represents cycles, Cancers may also find themselves affecter by changes in the Season's & weather." Laughter is the best medicine for you..

"Cancer is linked with Monday, Your Lucky # is 2, Your color is Light Blue as is Silver which is your metal.. & Plants & Flowers that are accosiated with Cancer are the Hazelnut Tree, Geranium, Water Lily, & all White Flowers.."

(this is all just for fun of course.. so if your not into it.. just skim on past it!)

One of My Favorite Sweet Little Birthday Poems:

How Old Are You?

Age is a quality of mind.
If you have left your dreams behind,
If hope is cold,
If you no longer look ahead,
If your ambitions' fires are dead-
Then you are old.
But if from life you take the best,
If in life you keep the jest,
If you love to hold;
No matter how the years go by,
No matter how the birthdays fly-
You are not old.

Kathie, I'm right on the money with what Cancer traits are..always have been a homebody, love food, nurturing those around, changes of the seasons, etc...it all fits me

I told Thomas lastnight I wanted lights that I can turn on or off in my next garden area so I can do night gardening.

Bonne, wait til you get in there over at Ravelry. It's just pure eye candy. I crochet pretty well but knitting I can do knit and purl but haven't taken it seriously..I get lost in reading the patterns. (yet) but plan to one day. You find every level of experience and there are groups for every kind of fiber you can imagine and they are selling from the groups so it's a very good place to shop if you need something.

Oh and Kathie, I have ALWAYS been queen packrat..hoarder..collector..on and on!! Vintage clutter makes me feel normal My divorce after 20+ years didn't cut down on it either.. I chose to get rid of unnessary stuff like furniture that you sit on..LOL But yes, divorce has a way of culling things down...my biggest reason through the years was over the moving around I did.

Kathie, and the rest of you sweeties, thanks for the Moon child info. I like that better than cancer too. So that's why I have the fabric stash of the ages...it's not my fault, it is my destiny! I'm going to use that one from now on, Fabric stash, well my horoscope sign is responsible, I just followed orders! Ooh that sounds kind of nasty, just followed orders, isn't that what all the Nazis said.

Okay I have two jokes for yu, or maybe one, I think I just forgot the other one, but this is one my friend
Gwen Marston, told me at the quilter's retreat she runs every fall...

Two old ladies are sitting on a bench. One says "I know we've been friends for fifty years, but for the life of me, I can't remember your name..."
After a moment, the other old lady says "When do you have to know?"

That's my idea of a perfect joke. Now my most favorite stupid joke is about French Canadians. It's just very silly, you could easily substitute Mainers for the French Canadians so here goes

How do you get a French Canadian to the moon?

Tell him there's pulp wood up there.

I hope that doesn't offend anyone, it's just one of those simple silly jokes and since Maine borders Quebec I just love it., but then I am kind of an idiot...Karin

Kathie, I forgot to say What a Wonderful Story about your girl and her spaceship, kids are so amazing, and you are one strong woman if you could hold ontp it.
Threatening about the babies was a nice touch too, my daughter always teases me about the :imaginary grandchildren" when I buy little kids' books and toys. I like to be prepared.
Once again ladies, I really enjoyed all your posts, such a treat! Karin
