Glad to see you Carol Sue.
Well gals, I had a Margarita last night for each of you...and slept like a baby!
Today I did battle with Tent Caterpillars (Gypsy moths). It rained most of the day. Once the sun came out, I went to the barn, made a torch, soaked it in gas and lit it.....then out to the orchard to burn those little buggars out of their nests...yes ladies, you are now seeing the totally brutal side of me. I cannot stomach the idea of those little buggers eating my fruit trees and blueberry bushes...and they will completely deforest our property in a heartbeat!
I will probably have caterpillar nightmares tonight!! Yuck!

Bev the Moth slayer- hard to picture-
Well girls, I'm slowly trying to work my way into more work I think. My hubbys says we will get chickens-again.Every one of my kids has had a brood but it's been about every 5 yrs or so. I have always had so much to do with homeschooling my kids and just keeping up with the household in general that unless one of the kids takes the responsibility I don't want extra things to take care of. But we are coming up on the empty nest- yes I know we are kinda old to be at this point - but anyway - with less of a demand on MY time I think I might enjoy chickens this time.
So we will be busy with our little animals as our last kiddo sprouts his wings in the next few years and perhaps the empty nest won't seem so empty. Hubby feed his fish twice a day and I'll have my chickies- hmmm. what else should we get? Lots of coyote- goats would be in danger horses are too much expense for more fencing already have dogs cats would kill my wild birds Maybe just chickies?
Blessings, Autumn Farmgirl #49 http://simplytoday-autumn.blogspot.com/

chickies are great...easy to take care of, and, in the long run, they pay for themselves with eggs! course, mine havent started laying yet, but they should really soon...the two oldest are going to be 6 months old at the end of the month...and well the two youngest...those would be some tiny eggs, they are only 4 days old...haha..

Jess i think thats the first WHOLE picture i've ever seen of the House.. I've only had bit's of roms & yards here & there!! Gorgeous! I love it!
Looks like we'll probably NOT be doing any moving this summer or fall anytime soon.. UGH!! This stupid thing is still going on.. & we're still in Limbo with my Husbands Job now.. So.. here we are.. still Stuck in Florida.. So.. i reckon I'll have to plod through & prepair myslef for another year of it.. Dissapointing.. I REALLY had hoped this was going to be finished with this year!!!
ANYWAY.. ! I made THE Funnest Quilt this past Week & was in such a dang hurry that i didn't get to take pictures of it! i'd forgotten to before i gave to the intended.. So My friend, (Who's Kids I made it for.. their wedding..) is going to take my camera home with her & snap a couple pics.. You know.. I'm not a Quilter.. But every once in a while I see something i want to make.. so I try to figure it out.. & make an attempt at it.. The Kids wedding was pretty out there.. Poor Butch Baby was on edge from the moment he stepped out of the Car.. Goth/Nightmare before Christmas Meets Corpse Bride.. Yeah.. now there's a visual huh? Lot's of fun.. The Quilt I made was in Log Cabin Squares.. & I used Jacks head as my center piece.. I also used several other fabrics with Skulls on it in the quilt too..
I can't wait to show you the quilt pics when i get them.. I'm kicking my butt.. i was so tired though.. I wasn't even thinking..
I also sold TWO aprons this week to 2 girls at work for Mother's Day ! Yippee Go ME !!

go you kathie..2 aprons and a quilt all in one week!
I made a doll, well, mostly Carmen made a doll and I was there to keep her from making a huge mess in my sewing room...and moral support. It is similar to one I made for my little 2 yr olds birthday, but twice as big, from black apple pattern. Anyhow, Carmen was going to a birthday party today and thought it would be fun to make a doll with a purse and put a gift card in the purse...so that is what we did for about an hour this morning.

Wow, I needed to catch up!
Nay, congrats on the new babies!! Roosters....noise makers!
Autumn....you will have so much fun with your hens and won't it be wonderful to have fresh eggs?
Jess.....great doll. BTW....your late birthday present was finally procured this weekend....will be in the mail tomorrow! You are gonna LOVE this one! (I hope)
Kathie's selling aprons!!! Go Kathie, Go Kathie!!! Maybe someday I will actually sell again....but you gotta make some to sell some!
So while I was doing battle with the caterpillars, I had the idea to feed them to the chickens....they turned up their beaks! Not so when I threw them some worms from the manure pile, though. Picky girls!
I had to mow an area of hayfield today to get ready to fence in another goat yard(it seems that we are keeping 9 of 11 baby goats....so much for a business venture!) Anyways, I uncovered a nest of 14 guinea eggs...no one was sitting on them. Apparently those crazy birds had just been stockpiling eggs...God knows for what purpose! Anyways, it was kinda funny....too bad they weren't fresh!
Happy Mother's Day to you all!!

Hey Bev, you can try putting the eggs in the incubator if you have one. I used to stockpile them for about 2 weeks at room temperature and then put them all in there. If they were fertile, they would hatch. Maybe the nights have been too cold by you, but it might be worth a try.
How the heck is everyone??!! Since I gave up the slipcover, I have been busy at my embroidery machine making blocks that will go into one of my BOM quilts and another one for my pastor. Plus, I have been trying to finish up some projects from a few months ago. Plus, with the school year winding down, it is a little hectic, but fun at work.

Jess; love your house. Make sure you put an updated picture in here for us!! Love the possum too! We had to put a HUGE racoon into the BIG SLEEP the other day (ok, so Rob takes care of that for us!!) because they just won't leave my garbage and chickens alone. She was enormous and so BOLD! Looked right at us while digging in our trash, like "yeah, can't you see I'm eating here?"

Thanks Sheryl. Yes, the raccoons and the possums seem to thing bothering chickens and rabbits is great entertainment, yet another reason we don't want them around! I am so glad you are back....you have been away for so many days..i just figure you are gearing up for the end of school!
