Autumn -- love your grandmother's pink apron!! The original vintage fabrics like this were pre-printed pillowcase fabric. You just hemmed one end (the one with border), sewed the sides, and instant pillowcase. I have some I got at an estate sale last year but it's yellow roses. I have a thing for this kind of fabric for some reason. You can buy new fabric that is very similar at http://www.parisbebe.com/store/. She does lots of reproduction fabrics.

It has an apron pattern too, but since it is a "one-size" pattern, I am wondering if I will have to alter the pattern to fit my size-22 body, which is one-size, but probably not the one they were thinking of.

I really like the style apron in the picture.

P.S I'm glad you change the topic, it was too depressing to look at all those high numbers and know I was lost back on page 138...

That apron looks like a canning apron that is what I call it. I've never seen it in a pattern before. Do you know if you can still buy that pattern? I'm making aprons for a craft fair and where ever else I can sell them..countrygirl

Brenda and Autumn -- Be sure to check out Ebay for that pattern -- I just purchased one for LOTS cheaper than on the McCalls site; since it is out-of-print, they charge full price there. I'm excited to get the pattern -- it's the kind I like; so comfy.

Denise and Sharon,

The Singer featherweight generally didn't have a "free arm"..the platform folds up to place in the carrying case...they are just so cool! They are very popular among quilting enthusiasts...

Autumn,

My favorite apron is the first "block pieced" half apron...it looks totally awsome..would love to see a close-up view of that one

Oh ladies the aprons today are so lovely. I miss my sewing machine! Have been so busy with school and activities on the weekend that I have little sewing time. Maybe this weekend. Open house at my school was tonight and it was fun. I like to meet the parents and talk about their kids' program in my class. I love the kids so much this year.

I am making an apron on October 3 since I am meeting friends to show them my pattern!

Hi gals, I am reading and listening to ya....just saying hi.
I am working on quilt swaps...don't know if I can tolerate the detail and tedious of straight seams and the 1/4 inch seams for long. grrrr
I am thinking of just making applique for all of them LOL
I also have a Halloween apron cut out and waiting for me...when I get it done I'll be celebrating everyday until Thanksgiving. :-) then I can make a turkey apron...! I even have a little scrap of bright orange rick rack...got it in a remnant ribbons bag...I'll put it somewhere on the new apron. I know ya'll want a pic...I promise soon.

by the way, Carol, I haven't heard lately about your treatment and diagnosis...still in pain and not sure what it is? I feel for you, I only have back bone disk pain,,but not all the time. Got to have an enjoyable distraction plus the meds for sure. Pain is a lifestyle all it's own. Just been thinking about you. I feel like I know ya now.

I am saving my pennies for a singer featherweight. Probably wont get one- but I am going to try.
I have never even seen one except in pictures- I just love the portability and what I hear about the fine stitches it makes.
Remind me to save my pennies girls!!!
Blessings,girls!!

Bev,
Love what you did with that fabric. That was the one I thought was peppers, remember? lol It looks great. What a beautiful job. I'm going to try doing the reversibles sometime.
