I made a shepherd's pie last night. Hamburger, garlic, carots, celary, onion and then topped with MaryJane's Budget Mix- It turned out so wonderful and it didn't need any exta oil and only needed a little bit of salt and pepper. Yum!

Good for you girls!! I too need to lose about 30 lbs. and I've noticed no one has mentioned age? I'm finding out that the older I get, the harder it is to lose, I"m 48. And my BP was high at last doctor visit and he wanted to put me on meds right then, I said no. I told him to give me a month to lower it myself, and I did. I take alot of vitiams and herbs, so I just added some for high BP and it's fine now, I think it was high from the cough syrup I was taking at the time. But I hate it when the docs want to put you on meds too quickly. I also take garlic for cholestrol and it's always low. If any of you want to go the natural way, just do your homework and look towards nature to help you out. Of course diet and exersice is the key along with a posistive outlook, but this age thing is really getting in the way!!

I will be 25 in December. My grandfather on my father's side had diabetes at the end of his life and my maternal grandmother has weight issues so I am very determined to get a hold on my health before it gets away from me. :D

Not so good today! Hubby and I decided we would work together to lower our BP and cholestorol. As I mentioned earlier my hubby LOVES fried food so I promised we would have one last fried food dinner before we quit for a while. For dinner I made...I can't believe I am admitting this...FRIED chicken wingettes, homemade french fries (for hubby) and homemade beerbatter onion rings!!!!! I WAS SOOOOOOOOO BAD! On the BRIGHT side...I only ate 4 wingettes and only about 6 onion rings and I drank WATER. I don't like fries so thats not an issue for me. We also had burbon baked beans. Okay so tomorrow we start FRESH! We are having Grilled lemon Chicken breast (boneless/skinless), Brown rice and acorn squash.
I was so naughty but I admit it and now I am moving on! I hope you girls had a better day than I!

You should really try flax seed to bring down your high blood pressure and cholestrol. My dad had high readings on both and started putting flax seed on his toast, oatmeal, or in his muffins and three weeks later the readings were better. We just found out that my husband's readings are a little high so he is going to start eating flaxseed. Just a few teaspoons a day should help. Garlic pills are also supposed to be good for both. Good luck!!! -Elizabeth |

I guess around fifty is the other side of the hill? I wasn't feeling well for quite a while and thought my symptoms were gall bladder related so went on a gall bladder type diet. Then I was actually feeling better. I found a book called Eating Right For Your Blood Type, and I have been following that as well as I can and have lost weight without really even trying. According to this book there are some things that I don't digest well, and some things that are not very good for me, such as tomatoes, bananas and some types of meats, fried foods. My last cholesterol check my triglycerides were high, now all of my readings are almost optimal since I have been watching what I eat. I've also been trying to stay away from breads and pastas - not that I never eat them, but I have cut way back on them, and then I've really started pigging out on veggies (just not the cole crops) and fruit....and I eat veggies and fruit at every meal, not just dinner. But even with losing that little bit of weight, I feel more energy. I really applaud you for taking whatever steps you're taking to trying to improve your health. Its not too late, so you go girls, go! |

Prayers for me please. I went to the ER last night, the first time I'd ever been in the hospital for myself so it was quite scary. Yesterday, shortly after I took the blood pressure meds, I started to feel weak and a little light headed and I could feel that my heart rate was slowing, then later in the evening I started to feel kind of a fluttering in my chest on and off so I said something to my boss, I'm a nanny, and he took me into the ER. They didn't find anything wrong, all the blood and urine tests came back normal which is a mixed blessing to me because I don't like not knowing what's going on but it's good to know that it didn't seem to be anything major last night. I've got an appt with my dr tomorrow morning so we'll see what she has to say. I'm trying to keep myself calm but as I said it's just not easy not knowing what's going on and I apparently inherited some of my worrying from my grandma.
Chris, my parents picked up that book from their naturopath and it looks like quite an interesting one. I've flipped through it a few times and think I'd like to try it out for myself. I've also got a friend who's got some nasty allergies to wheat and dairy, she's been following that diet and it's really worked out for her nicely.

Well, ever since I started th E-Diets eatting plan, I have been feeling great! I am sitting here nursing Nora as I type and I feel like I could go for a run! I have lots of energy and I feel clean internally too- not that sluggish feeling that I didn't even realize before!
I have been eating fruits and veg at every meal and cutting down on the meat. The main bulk of my shopping was in the produce section. I can't remember the last time I did that!

How are we doing today ladies? I cheated and had a few homemade butter cookies today- but only a few. I made a really yummy Cuban Rice for dinner that was very light on cooking oils and high on veg! Yum!

I was eating my breakfast this morning and couldn't finish my serving of yogurt. In fact it was icky just to start eating it. Then I read the ingredients. Ugh. It was full of high fructose corn syrup and I could TASTE it! It is amazing what you start tasting when you start eating healthy! Oh my gosh! I as sitting there wishing I had bought organic yogurt instead, but that store doesn't carry any.

Isn't it amazing all the foods that contain something our bodies can't even digest, high fructose corn syrup, that stuff is evil! You really have to read the labels but I do find a brand of yogurt that doesn't contain it, it's all natual and cheap, I eat one a day for a better tummy!

Usually the organic ones don't have it. I really like Brown Cow, but Winco doesn't carry Brown Cow and I don't like Nancy's.

I didn't gorge on it though- I really wanted to... Now here is the bad part... We also had tater tots! :D My favorite. Yum! But baked not fried and only a few!! I swear...
