I wanted to let everyone know that Chris donated her kidney last week and is doing well, as is the recipient!! Yeh!!! Both surgeries went well and Chris is back home in Western New York recuperating. I wanted to thank all of you who helped her with your prayers, notes of support and items for the craft sale(which in itself raised $800!) What am amazing gift she has given to a lady who was on dialysis for 16 years. Truly a new lease on life! Thank-you Farmgirls! Angie.
I work at a family owned weekly newspaper in Avon, NY. We are a pretty tight-knit group and one of the gals I work with will be donating one of her kidneys to a friend in NYC. She needs to raise funds for the trip there and back, accomodations for her husband and expenses. She will also we off work for at least 3 weeks and is not allowed to drive for several weeks. We will be fund-raising for her and I wondered if any of you would consider donating a hand-crafted item that we could sell at a craft/bake sale in November? Does not have to be anything huge or ultra time-consuming but maybe if you are making multiples of something you could make an extra for my friend Chris? I do hope that you can help. I am so in awe of what she is doing and would love to help not just her but the lady you will be given a new lease on life! Send me an e-mail and I will give you my mailing address. Thanks a bunch. Angie.

Hi Angie,
As the craft sale date approaches, I just wanted to give you and your e-group friends a heartfelt thanks for all that you have contributed toward the transplant endeavor. And I wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate the crafts, prayers, words of support and positive thoughts/vibes that have come my way. All of it is very much appreciated. I am stunned and humbled at the effort that others have made in helping me to cover the financial side of this.
It seems like a huge deal to DONATE something you've spent many hours lovingly crafting with your own hands. I am not crafty in that fashion (though as a writer, I do consider myself creative)... One Christmas (2004 maybe?) I made a robe for my son, Cory, because my mother gave me her old sewing machine. (I felt an obligation to create something with it.) It is probably the ugliest and worst-made robe on the planet and Cory (now 15) has outgrown it, but he still wears it from time to time (even though it is now almost a tunic and barely covers his bum). Shamefully, I have not used the sewing machine since.
Things are coming together as the transplant date (Dec. 11th) approaches. I now know that John and I will be staying in the Helmsley Tower right across the street from the hospital. Perfect! We got a discounted rate (though it is still expensive) and the suites are pretty nice with little kitchenettes and a king size bed. There's a grocery store on the same block, so we won't have to eat out all the time. Our transportation to/from the airport has been looked after and one of the transplant social workers there is looking into getting us financial help from a new "donor assistance" program. (If it works out, they will pay for the hotel and meals and airfare if necessary.)
Because of the nature of the trip, we're not planning anything adventuresome, but we DO intend to visit Central Park. John is a forestry consultant, so it's almost a requirement that we see the acres of urban forest and miles of walking trails. Plus, the walking will be a good way to whip myself back into shape after the surgery.
Anyway, thanks again, Angie, to you and Janet and all who've helped out with this. For a while I was feeling a little desperate and, admittedly, a bit regretful that I'd made a commitment to something I couldn't pull of financially. I should have had more faith that things would come together. No matter how it all turns out in the end, I know that RIGHT NOW Deb and her sister, Georgia are high on hope, and so am I. (It gets to be rather weary when you're on the transplant list waiting for some unknown date for life to get better.) As we move closer to the surgery date, we're all feeling very positive and looking ahead with excitement at the possibilities. Thank you for that.
Blessings, Chris
Well, the sale is over! We raised just over $600 which is awesome! Thank-you to all of you who contributed your lovely items!Everyone kept asking me where it all came from! I was glad to share about the Farmgirls and I think we may have some new members joining the forum! Thank-you all. Angie. |

Angie-
I will mail you a couple pints of my milk bath in their glass bottles. They sell pretty well around here and I usually sell them for about $8 a piece so hopefully they do well for you!

Thank-you Autumn & Alee. It is just wonderful when we get together to help someone out. Chris is putting on her brave face but I think she is getting nervous, the closer it gets. Please keep her and the recipient in your prayers and many thanks for conributing to the sale. Angie.
