Clare, I'm very sorry to hear of this news. You have an excellent attitude and you will go into this with a fight. I liked reading that you will enjoy each day and appreciate things and your family more. That is very important. You know, so many people have had cancer and survived it and lived for many years. My maternal grandmother many years ago, in the late 1960's, had breast cancer and a mastectomy (sp?). She lived for another 20+ years, and died of old age in her 80's. Back then, they didn't have the treatments they have now. It really has come a long way and there are many options with a good rate of success. Hang in there, Clare, and stay strong. I believe you will get through this. Judy

Another day. My friend from college called me with some advice. we were both pre-med undergraduates. He went on to be a very good internist while I went on to be a cytogeneticist.
Anyway, I have been a mom only for 15 years so the pre-med background helps, but not s muc has you think. He advised me to go fora meeting at university of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. He said they are rated top for new research, the cutting edge of treatment. He wants me to make sure I am getting the best chemo and treatment plan for what I have, recurrence of cervical cancer.
So, I called my folks as they are paying for treatment. i have no health insurance and am i nthat area where I am above medical assistance and any other state program. They want me to go for another opinion on treatment.
My friend advised on finesse when talking with the doctor. he told me the chemo plan is very, very tough and more like carpet bombing. Maybe something will be more direct and less traumatic to the body. I sure hope so. he said most go for the consultation, get the protocol and bring it back to be used with their place of choice closer to home.
So, today I will call them during regular hours and try and get in for just next week or the week after. Please pray for God to create and opening for me in this short time period. Hopefully, my doctor will be helpful. I can still get my port put in and be ready to start immediately upon my return.
I see doc Thursday now. I am praying for the right words for thte doctor and complete support from the office. we are also having the Ct scan and MRI reviewed by an independent radioligist that is a neighbor of my husband's parents. I want to be sure nothing is missed.
My friend asked me is I checked statistics of survival for cervical cancer recurrence. NO!!!! I don't want to be freaked out. I want to live and just need to focus on how to do that the best way with help and care from all my providers and the right attitude as well.
So, I found a nice website on hope and attitude. I keep reading about attitude making the difference. I also bought the movie "The Secret" whic hcame yesterday. It was recmmended by a friend to keep my attitude one of positive.

Clare........You are in my thoughts and prayers. You are embarking on one heck of a journey. Take each day as it comes. Ask for the medications to keep the nausea at bay.........ask for the big guns, don't mess around with the nausea. You will need to be able to eat and drink to keep up your strength.
Make friends with the nurses.......they will give you such comfort and information. Always take a notebook and pen and write down questions as they come up. Keep a journal, write down your feelings, messages to your children and family.
You are so brave. I feel a calmness and a quiet determination in your words. Draw strength in your faith.
Oh, my arms are around you in thought and hope and healing energy dear Clare.......................G

Oh Clare, I am so sorry to hear that it is the cancer again. But I'm glad to see that you're determined and you have a plan. I think the unknown is the worst part of it, and once that's behind you as it is now, you can make your plan and go forward. I chime right in here with everyone else to let you know that we love you, we pray for you, and we give you our unconditional support every moment! You just let us know what you need.
Sending (((hugs))) and love your way this morning! Kathy

Clare - I believe...No, that's not correct! I KNOW that attitude DOES make a TON of difference. And you are NOT just a statistic! I also know that your diet, herbs and vitamins matter. Keep pushing and we'll all keep praying for doors to open for your treatment right away.

Clare,
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Cancer treatments have come a long way and there are many long term survivers today. I will pray wisdom for the doctors, strength and patience for you, strength and peace for your family and in the end I pray God will be praised and it will be clear His hand was upon you through it all. You have been such a source of strength on this forum as you have shared this trial with us with such grace and amazing attitude. Thanks for the blessing you are to each of us. God is using this already.
With hugs and blessings . . . and continued prayer,
Brenda

Clare, I pray the Lord will direct you with your doctor tomorrow as you discuss going to the center in Texas. He can and will lead you in the right path. It's just day-by-day regarding knowledge and decision making! You don't need to know any statistics or to center your thoughts on fear. God bless you and keep you,
