Zena-my 100 lb. 13 year old rescue pup was hospitalized this morning. Sunday afternoon she suddenly started showing signs of not wanting to get up-when we tried to help her up she kept yelping and crying. We managed to get her to an emergency vet clinic-they thought it was a herniated disk and sent her home with meds. They didn't help-I was up all night with the poor girl. This morning we got her to our regular vet. He ran some blood chems., and it turns out it is pancreatitis. They kept her there, and have her on IV pain killers and various meds for the pancreatitis. The vet said the next few days are critical-she should show signs of improvement over the next few days. So could you all keep my Zena-girl in your thoughts and prayers? She is such a sweet girl and has had a pretty tough life in and out of shelters. Thanks so much. Jennifer |

Absolutely! Is it something they can take care of, like in us, or is it more serious for pups?
Either way, she is in my thoughts. Our Rose was ill a few weeks ago, and when farmgirls put their minds to it, they can will anyone well--Rose is a prime example.
You will both be in our thoughts at this house!

Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. It is pretty amazing, but Zena came home today. Everyone is shocked-couldn't believe how quickly she improved. She has to keep taking some meds, and is on a prescription diet, but it looks like she should be ok as long as there are no relapses or anything.
To answer a question-it is pretty serious-I guess dogs can die from it. They treat it by flushing her system with fluids to remove the digestive enzymes from the pancreas and administering antibiotics and steroids-and pain meds.
Thank you again for all of your thoughts and prayers-I just know it made a difference. Jennifer |

Thank goodness she is doing so much better! That is wonderful!!! I had pancreatitis about three years ago... it was awful. My brother had it and never has fully recovered. When I read that I really felt for your sweet pup! {{{hugs}}} Feeling joy for you tonight. :)

Hooray for Zena! I was wondering about her all day yesterday, Jennifer. I'm happy she's recovering.

Yay, Zena the "warrior princess"!!! I'm glad she battled through this, and is well on her way to recovery. Nothing better than having her fur-face home, I bet!

Jennifer, just read about Zena's illness and thankfully her recovery. It's a wonderful thing that she has you to care so much for her. Pancreatitis is very serious. Several years ago a childhood friend of my husband suddenly became ill with it and died two days later at the age of 49. It was awful. Many warm and fuzzy hugs to you and Zena. Tracy |
