When my husbands grandmother died before we ever had children(my mother in laws mom) she had alltimers and dementia. It was hard to watch but we all loved her and continued to visit her can't tell you how many invisible wasps I caught or how many other people I have been in her life ( I would do it all again for many years for my children to have had a chance to meet her as she never saw one of them). All I know is we all loved her and all still miss her and this story isn't about her but could be. As my husbands granddaddy slept on the floor for 5 years next to his wifes hospital bed in the front room to make sure she was ok and wouldn't escape and hurt herself even when she had no idea who he was and was scared of him which hurt him deeply but he loved her no matter what she was his sweetheart even if she didn't know it anymore.
--------------------------

My mother in law sent this to me ( it is mot about our grandma or granddaddy but it could have been about them very easily or any one else like this for that matter.
story starts here
It was a busy morning, about 8:30 , when an elderly gentleman in his 80's, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am.

I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound.

On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife.

I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.

I was surprised, and asked him, 'And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?'

He smiled as he patted my hand and said, 'She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is.'

I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, 'That is the kind of love I want in my life.'

True love is neither physical, nor romantic. True Love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.

With all the jokes and fun that are in e-mails, sometimes there is one that comes along that has an important message. I had to share it with you all.

Oh, by the way, peace is seeing a sunset and knowing who to thank.

The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.

I hope you share this with someone you care about.

I JUST DID.

have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe

Sunshine - thank you for the lovely reminder. It's so true, isn't it, about the acceptance part of love. Hugs to you and your little ones.

XOXO, Libbie

Growing up, my dad always called me Ruth. That was his sisters name but it just seemed to slip off his tongue. He became the victim of Alzheimers. He was moved to a facility close to my college (which I started at the tender age of 48) and I went in to introduce myself to the nursing staff at the home. I went into his room and he decided he wanted to take a walk. He took me to the nurses station and introduced me as his daughter, Ruth. They were flabbergasted that he knew that I was his daughter. I explained the Ruth part to them. I visited him at least once a day and every time he knew who I was. At the end of each of my visits I would again ask him who I was and he would tell me. The doctors couldn't understand why he only knew me. Love is a powerful thing. Thank you so much for this story. If only we all would remember that it's not what we look like, do for a living, or how much money we have. When push comes to shove it's how loving and kind we are to others. Susan
