Did anyone else labor today? We did getting a section of barn yard fenced in with gates. The other 3 sides have been done for 2 or 3 years now! We are finally able to spend some time working on our own place. My list is long, but getting one thing done is sure nice.

My basement flooded last night - or yesterday, really. My husband and our two little ones were on a hike in Capitol Reef National Park - and earlier that morning a friend had come by to take our dog and groom her (aka. finding the burrs and cutting them out) and I told her to just put the dog in our mudroom when she was done. WELL. This she did, and then I guess there was some thunder in our valley and the dog went nuts - jumping up onto the mudroom sink and turning on the cold water full blast. Darn dog!!! I know she didnt' do it on purpose. But it left, and I am not exaggerating FOUR INCHES of water in the basement. FOUR INCHES!!!... Okay, I'm taking a deep breath here. So today was spent working on de-sog-ifying (as my four-year-old called it) the stuff from the basement.

Michele - congrats on the fenceline completion! Isn't it great when larger projects like then get finished. It does feel good to mark stuff off the "list," I agree!

XOXO, Libbie

Well, flooding stinks anyway. Hope you get it all dry without too much damage.

My dh and I painted the lower parts of the house where the snow removes the paint, mowed and weedwhacked the yard, brought home a new woodstove and several very large old windows for the greenhouse we're going to build (probably next year). I got the dirt into my new raised flower bed out in the front yard and moved some not-so-happy plants into it where they will get more sun next year. Planted peas and lettuces, picked green beans, corn, tomatoes, cukes and strawberries, canned a bushel of apples and prepared the veggie beds for cold weather.

We were busy but it felt good to get so much done.

Over the labor day holiday weekend, I:

* canned salsa
* cleaned off the vintage (i.e. really dirty and stained) leather settee with a paste made from lemon juice and cream of tartar, followed up by saddle soap (still dirty, but MUCH better)
* cleaned and dusted living room
* gave the 4 dogs baths
* cleaned the bathroom after the baths
* went to an art opening for a friend
* fixed the fenceline that the dogs have broken down
* did about 3 tubs of dishes
* did all the laundry, both summer and winter
and last but not least, observed my dh playing a WWII video game while I worked circles around him.

No joke.
