Tdoay has been long and hard, six unhappy kids in a tiny apartment on a cloudy day and an exhuasted momma! I did way too much this weekend. So tonight I sit here continuing my dream of someone saying hey come take over my farm. I dont want to raise many animals, a few chickens for eggs not meat, i hate butchering them, a few rabbits so my kids can learn what breeding really is! a Big dog who live outside happily, horsesto ride, and even just to smell, and maybe a few goats so I dont have to mow so much! I am dreaming of apple trees a few braeburns a few macs and those awesome apples that we stole from the orchard next to grandpas house. He had permission to eat all he wanted but we thought they tasted the best when we swiped them togeather... really they were an uncommon apple that was so good from the tree and the best in the pie! He cryed this year when they got bulldozed to make room for strawberries. The owner of the orchard apperently felt the same way we did cuz he saved three of those trees way out back. All little girls need apple trees to climb! I am dreaming of a huge veggy garden, I will have my last jar of soup tomorrow and will have to depend on farmers markets and friends to make more. And I am dreaming of an herb garden to make my own tea as I sit here wondering where in the world this bag came from! I am mostly dreaming of the space for these wonderful blessings to run out and care for their own creatures, explore the countryside, discover new plants and research the books in the huge library where they can find the names of plants and birds and bugs. And the space to be creative, to draw full size patterns of quilts on huge sheets of paper on the hard wood floors. Rooms for the girls with walls on which to paint angels peeking around doors watching over them, giving them the sense of security I long for them to have that isnt here, even in this little town. I want to jump on the little tractor and wagon, or even the horses and go out back to our own private campground and spend the night under the stars listening to the whippor whills and frogs.
Today was a day that we needed the peace of the farm, with all of its undone projects and things needing fixing, chores to be done. Today was a day whose priorities, were not my priorities, today was a day of dreams. I hope my dreams can come alive very soon. I want to raise my children with the freedom the farm provides.

Tami, hang in there, I go through the same thing all the time. I try to make my little mobile home w/ a little yard my little farm for now. As long as you can grow things, do the crafts you want to do and do things the old way when you can, it works. One day I was feeling especially down & went online to this site and poured my heart out. Clare (moderator) told me, and its true, make your farm where you are. I am in a 2 b/room mobile home. I spin, hook rugs, grow many herbs, carrots, tom. etc. you get the picture. Its in your heart and you can take it anywhere. Just hang onto that. Michele

I hear ya girlfriend. I dream and dream of my farm all the time. The house is built and decorated in my head, I know what animals I want, what kind of trees and to grow. I can see it all. Everyday I get closer to finding it. Never give and keep dreaming you'll get it just like me we'll both get there. We will weave these dreams into reality.

Blessed Be

I have a rental on 6 acres, the horses are already there and I'm just outside Appleton, WI..:) It was my dream 7 years ago when I got divorced and I needed a place for my 4 girls, my horses, and my St. Bernard. Bought it, love it, just bought another place 1-1/2 miles down the road...love it too. It's just alot of work keeping up with both places. Let me know if you want to see it! Has apple trees too, and maples.....:) Keep dreamin', it works!

Keep dreaming Tami, your dream will come true, it just takes time. In the meantime, make the most of what you have. Do you have any yard to call your own? If so, set out a few tomatoe plants, plant a few herbs or flowers. Then set back and start "tending" your "farm". Take a good look at the inside of your home and start making it as "grandma" as possible! It's mind over matter when it comes to making believe where we are. And all the time doing this just remember...Your farm is out there, you just haven't found it yet! Hugs, Sher

Tami,

You write so eloquently. Sounds like you at least need a place with a yard. Many a residential place can allow for a rabbit cage and a small garden and even a couple of apple trees-------even a rental. It is a step further to your dream. Also, keep looking for property. You keep dreaming it and looking and it will come.

Hi Tami,
Hold tight to your dreams and never give them up. Someday somewhere you will ge tto see them come true. Meanwhile teach your children all the fine things you know how to do. Most can be done on a smaller scale and taught to children. I did it with mine. Find a group you can join that will give you an outlet for your creativity such as a quilters group, call your local county extension agency to see what they have to offer and find a park where you can play outside with those little people. The local library probably also has summer programs for your children no matter what their age.

Hi Tami, I know how you feel. I wish you the best with your dream. I am trying to buy the homestead area of my parents farm from an estate. I can only afford the area around the house and farm buildings as land is very expensive and everyone seems to want to buy the farm land right now.
Tillable farm land in Iowa is going for 2000 to 4500 an acre.

Dear Tami, I cannot have children but I have my dogs and other pets. I am currently living as a part time farm worker and caretaker. I live in a very nice modern mobile home with two large decks and wonderful skylights. I live right abouve a small creek that partially dries up in the summer, ahnd am surrounded by undulating hills of golden wheat.Having formerly lived in several of the largest cities in the world, all I want is 5-10 acres and one HECK of a garden. Goats can be a royal pain in the patootie and are masters of escaping exactly when you don't have time to deal with them. My land lady has Boer goats and I'm not at all fond of them or thier meat. I like Nubians and/or French alpines, we figure that we would have two or three does for company and rent a buck when we needed one. Though my mate is getting soft on the idea of one of the smaller rare heritage breed cows. I honestly don't want a big house, a nice big kitchen with a center island lots of windows and a huge veranda. Gotta have a horse or two...life isn't right with out a daily horse hug. I LOVE llamas, they some how look like DR, Suess characters to me, but they cost a mint. ...I am mostly looking at poultry...I want to raise some "Wild" or heritage breed turkeys, some Guineas and a mix of banties and barred rocks. I want hedgerows of wild fruiting trees and shrubs and mostly I want it to be my own.

Dreams do come true, as many can attest to. Might not be your full dream but even attaining a bit of your dream is a good place to start! I wish you the best of luck and just know that you'll be turning your dream into reality, look at any and all possibilities and never stop dreaming! ((Hugs))
