Hi Everyone-

I happened to find this forum while looking for a linen spray recipe. I live in SE Michigan. Though I don't own a farm of my own, I work for a greenhouse/truck farm. We live in a former commercial apple orchard, so we still have lots of apple trees on our lot. I have many hobbies which include spinning, knitting, sewing, quilting, beading and soapmaking. My daughter and I also do Civil War Re-enactment. I like to garden and do a lot of canning, though I don't really care to cook...LOL.

I'm very glad to have stumbled across you!

Welcome Rebecca! Glad you are here! You will fit right in! Do you use your apples for canning? Your place sounds wonderful, and so do your hobbies! Tell us more about your Civil War re-enactment! Jenny from Kansas

Welcome Rebecca,
The recipe I use for linen spray is just distilled water and 3 or 4 drops of Essential Oil (usually Lavender) depending on the size of spray bottle.
Enjoy the forum.
I'm also a soap-er, sew-er and soon to be weaver.

Hi Jenny and Karen-

Yes Jenny, I usually make applesauce and apple butter with the apples from my trees. They are not very pretty, but they taste good. We have a friend who comes and picks them for making cider. He usually brings us back 15 gallons. We have frozen some, given some away, and last year made hard cider and vinegar. I have more vinegar than I'll ever use...LOL.
My daughter and I have been doing Civil War Re-enactment for almost 3 years. We really enjoy it. I have sewed all our clothes...not that we have a big wardrobe! I have started on a new dress for myself...since the one I have is black and way too hot for summer. We went to an event last weekend...it was torture...LOL.

Thanks so much for the linen spray recipe, Karen! I wasn't sure if vodka went into the mix or not. The spray I've been using is supposed to be lavender....it doesn't smell anything like real lavender.
It's great to meet a fellow soaper and sewer. I also weave, though I haven't for ages. Too many hobbies, not enough time...LOL.

Take care-
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca! Your applesauce and butter sound so good! The Civil War era fascinates me! I have seen re-enactments on History channel...The women must have sweltered in those heavy black dresses! What a turbulant and heart wrenching time in our history those years were... But so necessary. The women in that era must have had so much strength and stamina, and spirit to withstood those years. Fascinating stuff!

::jumping up and down:: Hey me too! Well, except for the beading and soapmaking, although I have made a new good friend who does the latter! I myself love spinning! I use a drop spindle but dream of one day getting a wheel. :::sigh:::
Welcome and enjoy!
Blessings

Hi Philly-

Yay! Another spinner! We have friends who own an alpaca farm near Cleveland that we visited over the weekend. I, of course, came home with a garbage bag full of white alpaca wool! It's luscious! I can hardly wait to spin some of it up.

I also have a drop spindle and two spinning wheels. One is quite old and doesn't exactly spin...at least not without a LOT of tweaking. The other is an Ashford traditional style wheel that I got as a college graduation gift from my parents....many moons ago...LOL. It still runs great.

What kinds of things do you knit?

Are there any frustrated farmgirls out there in the Chicago area? I live just outside Chicago, but do have an 80 acre farm (purchased by my father 40 years ago, more of a weekend place) to stretch my farm legs, garden, pick raspberries, ramble in the woods, etc. I love growing vegetables, making food from scratch, making soap, growing herbs and learning about and making herbal remedies etc., and am very interested in organics and sustainable living. I know there are many of you out there, but how about around Chicago?

Glad you like it, Randi! It was a toss-up between that and "No outfit is complete without doghair"...LOL.
