This is what Oxi Clean is...
did you know that????
3% peroxide
This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana
"I would like to tell you of the benefits of that plain little old bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any drug store. My husband has been in the medical field for over 36 years, and most doctors don't tell you about peroxide, or they would lose thousands of dollars."
1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when I bathe)
No more canker sores and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash. (Small print says mouth wash and gargle right on the bottle)
2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of "Peroxide" to keep them free of germs.
3. Clean your counters, table tops with peroxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters.
4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.
5. I had fungus on my feet for years - until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.
6. Soak any infections or cuts in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine, but was healed by soaking in peroxide.
7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will.

8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, or plugged sinuses. It will bubble and help to kill the bacteria Hold for a few minutes then blow your nose into a tissue
.
9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.
10. And of course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the 50/50 solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will not have the peroxide burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages, but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, reddish, or dirty blonde. It also lightens gradually so it's not a drastic change.
11. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help rid boils, fungus, or other skin infections.
12. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, pour directly on the soiled spot. Let it sit for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.
13. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors with, and there is no
smearing which is why I love it so much for this.
I could go on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home should be without! With prices of most necessities rising, I'm glad there's a way to save tons of money in such a simple, healthy manner.

Send on to others who might need to know the benefits of 3% peroxide

using it on your teeth to much will weaken the enamel and make it easier to get cavities be careful with that

You should dilute the peroxide a bit if you are going to use it as a mouth rinse.
My husband's a chemist and tells me Oxyclean is not the type of peroxide in the bottle.... well it is a different form anyway and it has more than one ingredient.

Peroxide is awesome. I tend to wonder though if we are conditioned to equate foaming with germ killing like we do bubbles with our laundry?? "Seeing is believing" and all that.

I can attest to #9. That totally works. I don't think I'd want it in my nose though. ;)

If you use too much peroxide in your mouth it will also turn your tongue black! Straight from my dentist's mouth.

Use to use it on my hair when I was in high school to make it lighter. And it is great for cuts, scrapes, sores, etc.

It's a good thing I didn't know that as I used it for years in my mouth, old remedy around our house, and I never got a black tongue, yuck! It sure did take out the infection though, which was a relief!

Peroxide is THE best for infection. We used a little peroxide in the water pic when my oldest had her braces. That dentist is the one who told me not to use too much. But if you've used it for years and not had a problem then I wonder how much is too much???

I love it too..I always wash my kids scrapes and cuts and pour peroxide over them a couple times..or soak if it is a bad one..before drying and bandaging..really helps. It is the best thing for blood stains in clothes I have EVER found. I have had sons that get nose bleeds easy and boy...it was a great thing to have around. I always have a bottle in the laundry room, one in the bathroom and another spare in the linen closet..can't live without it!! Thanks for the tips I hadn't heard before!

If you were here I'd try and help you do the weave. I have never done one but I'd try. Oddly enough I have a grand daughter that does them very well. It is a natural talent with her to do hair in beautiful fashion.
Thank you to all for the comments on this product, as you know, the older you get the more you hear about and use household products with out thinking. Duct Tape being an ol' hickabilly favortie! Blessings to all, it is wonderful having all of you as friends!

Here is what the hoax-busting Web site Snopes.com has to say about this widely circulated message:

http://www.snopes.com/medical/homecure/peroxide.asp

If you don't want to go to the trouble of reading the entire site, you should know that they say what most of us already know: shooting Hydrogen Peroxide up your nose, or leaving it in your mouth for long periods of time, is a terrible idea. It can damage tissue, corrode tooth enamel, and be swallowed -- which is a waaaaay not good idea.

The stuff has its uses, but use your head.

I cannot imagine leaving anything, even tooth paste in your mouth that long. Toothpaste itself is made of sugar and destroys your teeth, but you would have to leave peroxide in your mouth for extended lengths of time to cause this reaction. The whitening things for your teeth will very quickly destroy the enamel on your teeth as it did my daughters teeth very quickly.
Thank you for snooping the articles, I have that link myself to check out false claims for missing people and false money scams..

I shower at least once a day for at least 5 minutes -- more if I'm shampooing, shaving and all that. Having peroxide in your mouth at the same time, even once a day, has a cumulative effect that is not safe. It's perfectly okay to rinse with it and spit it right out, but you have to follow up with a good swig of clear water and spit that out, too, before swallowing, to avoid ingesting any peroxide. Most dental hygienists will recommend rinsing for at least 30 seconds with a mouthwash containing thymol, like Listerine. Peroxide doesn't kill as many kinds of germs, although it does have a whitening effect. (It is, in fact, the active ingredient in tooth whiteners, although they contain other ingredients specifically to counteract the negative effects of having the product in your mouth (usually in a tray, not swishing around freely in the mouth) for the recommended 20-30 minutes.

BTW, not all toothpastes contain sugar, but you're right: many do. Isn't that ridiculous?

Yes, I think it is,but like everything else they have to create a market to get you to buy the stuff. I have heard that brushing with baking soda and salt will keep your breath and teeth fresh, but who knows, lol you may get a chemical reaction and have bubbles come out your nose or something.
I have never left the peroxide in too long as I would be sick from it. After my ex knocking my front teeth out though, before I had false teeth, I had many problems when they had reintroduced the teeth back into my mouth and peroxide was a life saver for me. Later a dog jumped up, knocking them loose again, hence loosing the rest of my teeth. But, thank God, I have no more tooth aches, and my teeth are sure easier to tend too. It does scare a person, however, with-out them in ask my grandkids.
I am glad you are here, Rosemary, which is a favorite spice of mine, it is a pleasure to discuss things back and forth.

Pauline, I'm glad you like rosemary! I can never get enough of the stuff myself.

Baking soda is perfectly safe for brushing your teeth and freshening your breath. I've used it in a pinch, or when I was going through one of my Earth Mother phases. It's just abrasive enough to get your teeth nice and smooth without damaging the enamel -- the same feature that makes it such a good scouring powder/cleanser for porcelain sinks, etc.

Great thread, Pauline. Thanks for starting it!

Here is another good use for peroxide. Mix this together and bath your dog if it gets skunked
Skunk Smell Remover 1 quart 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 cup Baking Soda
2 tbsp Dish Detergent. The stuff for washing dishes in the sink, not something for dishwashers.
Mix the ingredients in a large bowl, because it will boil up like Vesuvius. We are, after all, making an oxygen generator. Wash the dog with this while it is still foaming, because it is the oxygen which reacts with the thiols in the skunk stink to neutralize the odor. If it sits around, it will loose it's efficacy because the oxygen boils off. Don't try to store it in an airtight container, because it will blow up. The brew also works for clothes, humans and unlucky cats.

I know from experience that this works One more tip...once when using this formula I thought to myself, self try adding some vinegar on the dog while the mixture is on her since vinegar is good at taking out smells....well have ya ever seen how vinegar and baking soda react OMG that poor dog really foamed up so don't try that!!

That's hilarious, it brings me back to the time when we lived on the foot of Peterson's Butte, here in Oregon. With 11 kids you just have to have pets, right? Well we happened to find a nest of skunks under the chicken coupe and we got rid of the mother that kept stealing the eggs. But, lo and behold we saw afterward that she had babies. Sp we stowed them in the house, my dad being worse than us. When they were raised they slept in our window boxes my dad stuck in our "inside" windows. They became very good pets, scared a few unsuspecting visitors when they coup down on their shoulders while they sat on our couch.
Anyway, one got outside one day and we looked and looked for him. Then one morning we saw one scamping across our field and my little brother yells there he is I'll go get him. He was as fast as lightening, jumping atop that poor little skunk. You guessed it, it wasn't the right skunk! Oh, church would have to wait that day because the baptism of tomato juice was immanent and even the dog that helped retrieve what was thought to be a pet was soaked. That skunk was left to his own knitting after that. But the smell never leaves the mind..if ever it would someone always disturbs yet another skunk in the neighborhood.

my mother in law grew up out in the sticks with ten brothers and sisters-they didn't have toothpaste growing up, but they all used baking soda and peroxide. she's in her 80s now and still has all of her teeth. and she still insists on brushing her teeth with that. I guess it works :)
