Hey girls,
This website was sent to me from I do not know where. I think it is a wonderful concept, good way to become involved with community. There is a Food Pantry in Russell Springs that I have seen, so I am going to talk to them about this project. Maybe next year I will have a full garden like a farm girl should and I will be able to have a section planted just for this program. Do any of you work with food pantries where you live?? Just thinking out loud again, sorry that is kind of me.

Linda, I dont work for a food pantry, But I have been working with some growers in the area that are allowing gleening teams to come in and gleena nd donate the produce/fruit to a couple ministries that then get the fresh stuff out to people in need. Our church also has a place in the foyer where people bring in their extra's and others can take it home with no charge.......We are considering a CSA type system where we find growers that will donate so much a week adn matching that up with needy families as well...... I write an articel for our local paper and this week I wrote about "paying it forward" - it is often times so hard to image that there are those that go hungry this time of year, even here in the valley where fruit and veggies are bountiful!Seems we could all do our part, even if it is helping the senior citizen down the street from us that cannot get out, or afford fresh produce.... thanks for the reminder.....

a friend of ours used one of these a few years back when we grew 600 head of collards.
Needless to say, we didn't sell all 600, so we donated an entire dump truck load!
I need to find out where this shelter is in relation to us since we ALWAYS plant too much and alway have more than enough to give away
It's a good idea |

Rene, I would like to read the articles you write for your local paper. I thought about "Home Health" agencies being a place for taking surplus items. When they go on their visit check ups especially for the elderly they could take a bag of what had been brought it. I think bringing it to church is a great idea, feeding more than just the soul!

I am not sure what a head of collard looks like or what to do with it. So it is hard to imagine an entire dump truck load. Way to go farm girl!! Can you eat it like salad??
