Okay, I have a request if someone has some. They look almost black, i think they were called midnight. My neighbor who passed away over a year ago gave me one and it didn't make it. Would really like to have some just to remember her by. Thanks. Carol Sue

Oh! Sounds pretty -I have some hollyhocks but they re just babies now! I could send you some seeds when they go to seed -but I'm not sure what color they are! That actually would be a fun swap- seed exchange!!! |

Carol Sue, I'm sorry for your loss. Neighbors can be like family.
I have thousands of hollyhock seeds! They're not black, but bright pink.
This is the first year I have grown them, and there are pods everywhere. I haven't tested them yet to know if they are fertile or not, but would be glad to send you some. I don't know if there is a chilling requirement for hollyhocks or not - they might not sprout till spring if you plant them now. Just send me an email with your address if you want the pink ones.

Carol Sue, below is a website for the hollyhocks you are looking for. The black hollyhocks are becoming the most popular color. There are several sites but Thomas Jefferson is one of my favorite presidents, he had these hollyhocks at his home. Hollyhocks used to be planted around outhouses, that way ladies of the day did not have to ask where they might releive themselves they only had to look for the tall hollyhocks. Just some trivia for you about these flowers. I hope to be planting some around my outhouse this year, just because of their history.

Carol, I'd be glad to send you some seeds! Did you send me an email with your address? I looked but didn't see it - should I look in my spam mailbox? Usually emails from the forum don't show up there, but come directly into my email...

Carol, Do you think you have enough of the hollyhock seeds? I do have some of the nearly black ones and I would be happy to send them off to you. They are still in full bloom so we would have to wait a bit on them. Let me know.....Cindy

Corinne, I would be more than happy to send you some. I will tell both you and Carol that sometimes you don't actually get the color that you are hoping for. I ALWAYS get colors of hollyhocks growing that I have NEVER planted. They just surprise me! Please do email me and I'll send them in the fall! Cindy |

Pink Hollyhocks? Can I have some. I can remember being a little girl and floating pink hollyhocks upside down in a bowl of water like little dancing ladies.

I just got some hollyhock seeds from a woman I was visiting while on vacation. She gave me enough to plant several places, so I'm going to plant some here at home, some at my daughter's house and some at my grandma's. So we're going to have generational hollyhocks! I think they'll all be pink, but after reading some of your posts, maybe we'll have some other colors mixed in! I can't wait-they're some of my favorite flowers!

I have red, pink (bright and light) and white. Happy to send some seeds if any of you email me privately with your names and addresses. I will TRY to keep them divided by color, but some times they just get mixed up! Sharon

I would love some seeds too if anyone has any to spare. I could trade you also: Patty pan (squash), Zuni squash (looks like neon orange punkins). Thanks, Lu
P.S. I might have some flower seeds also.

Oh, I haven't read this in awhile. I don't have any black ones, but I do have other colors. If anyone wants seeds, I'd be happy to share too. They are so prolific, and they just take over at my place. I usually nip off the seed heads before they open just so they won't spread so much. But I'd be tickled to share. I've got shades of pink only. Would love other colors if anyone wants to share too. :)
My daughter makes flower dolls out of them to play with outside, they do make the perfect skirts and bodies upside down!
We make a difference. |

Oh girls, this is so much fun. You are just making my day. Can't wait for the midnight seeds, having so much fun. Didn't somebody suggest a seed exchange or give away somewhere on here. Have they done that before and I just wasn't aware? Trust me, in one ear out the other, lately. Carol Sue

Yesterday I was out doing some cleanup work in the garden and I cut down my hollyhock stalks. They were looking pretty forlorn, 8-foot tall brown stalks with one flower on the top. I see lots of little baby hollyhock plants under them, so I guess the seeds definitely were fertile, it will be a question of whether they flower next year or not. I have thousands and thousands of seeds from the stalks I cut down. Anyone wanting some, email me for my address (Put Hollyhocks in the subject) and send me a self-addressed and stamped envelope.
Carol Sue, did you plant the ones I sent you? Did they come up yet?
