no but i would really love to, i am always looking for ways to supplement the old income here. i have made them on watercolor paper, and cardstock and they can also be transferred to fabric, for quilt labels.

i forgot to add, the girlfriends one is actually a picture of my mom and her graduation class, vintage 1933. i love using people vintage photos to make labels and watercolor photos cause i think it is more sentimental to us a photo of someone you loved in your craftings.

Hey Frannie,
I just left a comment on your blog You really should pursue making labels.
And the "hang tags" for products are a sure way to make some extra income!
All of the cottage industry and larger businesses love the custom hangtags they can put on all of their creations.
You should post the tags you want to on your blog as being for sale as "one-of-a-kind" hangtags...Do you have a Lazer color printer? If not, you can take a disk with your designs to a printer and they'll print them on really nice paper for you...then you can get a price point on different quantities to offer.
And then also offer the custom handdone on watercolor paper for the Artist or Designer that truly wants a unique look for their product.

stephanie, i was reading your post when i got an email alert. i went to check it and it was you posting. it is 2:13am here and i am getting ditzy, even for me. i think your advice sounds great, and tomorrow i am gonna reread it cause i think it will make sense to me in the light of day. right now i print out all my own tags and labels, here at the house. i am teaching myself as i go. my kids cannot believe that i post on the computer and have a blogspot and everything, cause when they were little i didnt have a clue what to do on the computer and never used one. (i was also a little busy). anyway now iam enjoying it very much. i think i will try to put together some cards and tags, i am supposed to go back to roundtop in the fall,so maybe i could take some there to sell as well. thanks

sherri, that would be great! do you know what you have in mind or can i see pics of what you do so i can get an idea of what might work with them? this could be fun, and it might get me away from the sewing machine for a while.

okay stephanie, thanks for bringing me some good luck and maybe some work doing TAGS! i did get a chance to read your comment on the blog site. i started doing this kind of thing on the old xerox machines, in the dark ages. i have always been fascinated with graphic work, but i am self taught and i know that sometimes i work and work at something and then find out it really only takes 3 steps and i have turned it into a 45 step project. i dont use any kind of computer program right now, but i hope one day to learn how to use them. if i want a watercolor tag for example i make a copy of the photo on watercolor paper and then i watercolor it. that then becomes my master copy. from there i can copy it on fabric or whatever. the weirdest thing i copied on that worked was a piece of canvas that i had treated to make a floorcloth, i used to make those a couple of years back. i had some little scrap pieces leftover and didnt want to throw them away.
i turned one of my watercolor photos into a journal cover(that is my mom and her brother at the beach, circa 1923). the wrst thing i ever did that didnt work, i wanted to print a picture on some cork board and personalize it, the computer didnt agree and it won, but i think it would have been a lovely project. anyway, it is now almost 3:00am and i am way overdue for some beauty rest, but i have enjoyed this very much.

Hey Fran,
I know what you mean about turning 3 steps into 45 I'm self taught with everything I do so it's a trial and error process...LOL
So you use photos and other paper images, print them then watercolor them...now what medium are you using to transfer it to the fabric and make it permanent...I've been messing with image transfers and there are so many techniques that folks are trying..I haven't tryed it yet using the gel mediums..
You truly have the advantage since it's been learned without a computer program! Really all you need to do is scan into your harddrive a copy of your finished tags and open them in a simple inexpensive cardmaking, etc program and you could add the customized text that customer may want like their business name, web address and telephone number. These programs are easy to use and offer many ready to use templates.
Talk to ya later

stephanie, i just started using the transfer papers and i am learning about them.....but i did buy a book recently about transfering images to just about ANYTHING! so my family has started to run around me for fear that if they stand still i will transfer an image onto them. i have had good luck with the image transfers so far, but i usually just feed the fabric into the printer and then i sweet talk the printer into accepting it....("mom's talking to the printer again"...) and then i pass of any wrinkles or glitches as art. after, the ink has had time to cool down i iron it . cause dh did not like seeing the images on his work clothes.

well, i just love a little kismet here and there. i have been racking my brain now for the last 5 years trying to make a little extra money. the crafts do fine, but if i go to a show out of town, it is really iffy cause i cause i have a lot of overhead. anyway, i love making the pincushions and the stuffies etc, but i always need more to work on to supplement the income. so thanks once again to the farmgirls for all the encouragment, i will try and figure out my cost and what the different options might be and then i'll present them on the blog and here and see if anyone is interested. thanks again, ladies yall are all great to me. ps. last night i stayed up late reading about the miniapron thread, didnt even get half way through, but i just loved reading about it. i'll try to catch up and read the rest of yalls mini apron tonite.

Hey Fran,
So you are printing out the fabric from an Inkjet printer and just heatsetting it...and it is staying permanent through many wash cycles?
I have bought the Bubble Jet Set 2000 and the Rinse that goes with it....just got it in last week...so I'm gonna try that. Then I found some fabric sheets that are already treated with the Bubble Jet Set..I'll let you know how it works..
I'm so happy you discovered a niche for something you love to do!

when i print them on fabric, i let them cool and then i iron set them with a little cloth between them. ya know i'm not sure i have used that method on fabric that gets washed, just my pincushions, and wall hangings, and these funny pins i make that i call blue ribbon pins, kinda like you would win at a fair, but more for when you just need a little recognition and nobody else has noticed so you just give yourself a blue ribbon day. anyway, i will do a little test when i get a chance and see.

i think they are very charming. great work, sherri.

well i have been in imagination land for a couple of days working on the business cards and hang tags. i am really enjoying this, and sherri is fun to work with. (even though her dog has cooties) i'm sorry i couldnt resist that. anyway, i have posted some of the tags and cards we are working on and wanted to share them. also if any one else out there needs a card or label or hangtag, please give me a chance cause this is alot of fun. i will also barter if you have a product that i cant live without, and a lot of you do, also you have to promise not to mention to dh that i bartered. i used photos i had here for examples but for sherries tags we will use photos of her when she was just a wee one, or i should say "small frie". anyway, take a peek.
