I have not posted much lately - a lot going on here. Had my husband in the hospital for almost a week (two variations of lyme disease) and then one of my mini horses died (was put down near the end)Vet thinks it could have been his heart, I adopted him when he was 10 and he lived to be 17. Now I am debating where I will get another mini to keep my Winnie company. Very sad to lose Buddy.
Neighbors were moving and were going to kill their two remaining turkeys so I took them in last night, calling them Thelma and Louise, poor little things - well not really little, my chickens think they are prehistoric monsters.
Can anyone share any turkey knowledge with me - these are very grown up girls!
Also I have a mother duck and her ducklings living in my valley where the water runs - they were so cute, she started out with 8 and is now down to 6. Her name is Aflack hehehe

sorry to hear that your husband has been ill, and about the little horse. But it looks like a few other critters have decided to help fill in the gaps and have found you..that is terrific. I don't know much about turkeys, but you might want to get a turkey/quail mash from your feed store. They sell it in 50 lb bags.
It's also what the feed store recommended for my ducks. What type of duck is in the valley area? Is it a wild one or a domestic breed?
(By the way.. about the ducks..just so you know..ducks should never be fed things like bread or snacks..it's not good for them at all. if you decide to toss them something to eat, things like crushed hard boiled eggs, lettuce, and tomatoes are good, but not seeds from nuts or sunflowers, it upsets their digestive tract)

I am sorry to hear about you losing your little horse! It is always so hard to lose a pet! Your new additions sound great though!
