Just wanted to share the good news!

I haven't gotten to pick up my two baby boy goats yet, but Lisa (the breeder) took my goat Lloyd and his brother's fleeces to Estes Park to the fiber show there. Anyhow...

Lloyd beat out over 50 other fleeces to win "Grand Champion Mohair Fleece" and his brother took "Reserve Champion". Also Lloyd won "Spinners Choice Award" beating out EVERY OTHER fleece at the show (over 200!) His fleece was THE BEST ONE THERE!

Their grandsire also won "Grand Champion Colored Buck."

What a coup for my fiber operation - my primary breeding buck is already winning top honors and he's only six months old...

I'm so excited! I can't believe I picked such a good one! This is great news for my future breeding program!

Anyhow, thanks for letting me share my good news.

(His picture is on my homesteading blog!)

I wanted to find some good stock to start out with and all the experts say to invest in the best buck you can find... I was worried that I would end up with "so-so" stock since I really had no idea what I was doing when I picked him out. I liked his coloring, his body structure and the breeder is reputable, so I went with my instincts on picking out my buck. It's good that I apparently have good instincts, but I'm sure I'll make more mistakes. Now I just have to get some experience so I can utilize him to his best abilities.

Well you have a great Eye then..!

I don't think you'll have to worry about utilizing him to YOUR best abilities.. I bet he'll be more then happy to figure that out all on his own!!!

Can't wait til you can show pictures of the little guy!!
I love goats!! They are just the most comicle little creatures..
Aren't they???

Good luck with him!!!

I meant keeping him in tip top condition, not screwing up his fleece when I shear, that sort of thing... the rest I am sure he can figure out! *blush*

There is a picture of him as a baby on my blog... http://toomyvara.livejournal.com

The other boy I am getting (although a wether) is a red one... check further into the blog maybe back into March or so... We lost one - Langston - but Leander is still okay and hopefully I will get Lloyd and Leander soon.

I'm also working on another purchase - this time of an entire herd, so I may have some more!

One of the things I have already decided is that in our new home, the "art" on the walls will consist of my MIL & FIL's paintings and photographs of our farm's animals. I'll take pictures of them and then get them printed and matted like professional art. I have a friend (my goat mentor) who did this in her bathroom - you have no idea how awesome it looked - lots of baby angora goat photos...

Oh wow.. that sounds really neat doesn't it!!!
see what they look like in both color.. & black & white..

I have really decided that i am really liking black & white photos alot lately.. & i think nealy every picture in my bedroom now is..
Really a diffrent look to it.. & you seem to notive a few other things in the picture too.

I do love the goats though.. These gut=ys are so adorable!!
I love their coats.. Coats.. is it called a coat on a goat?
Kind of a mix between a Sheep ( which I do love..) & a Rastifarian! I expect they may speak with an Island accent..!

No.. we have to keep his "Goat" heritage in there..

How about a "Spagootle"?

More good news - The other boy goat I'd purchased from her is a red/blond angora. Originally she'd had him listed as a buck but pulled him off because she was worried about his back being not straight enough. We were buying him as a wether, just because I needed a companion for the first boy and also because I'd fallen in love with him. Anyhow, she had him reevaluated after he reached the six month point and his back is straightening and his fleece is exceptional, so we will be able to use him as a buck after all. (I'll be paying buck price for him, but that's okay.)
