Do any of you know a source for alpaca yarn? When we went on the farm tour yesterday one of the places had yarn from their sheep and a shawl done from some alpaca. It was wonderful. I've never felt anything so soft. I'd like to get some to knit with.

try www.villagespinweave.com They are great folks that run a wonderful spinning and weaving shop in Solvang Calif..an hour from where I used to live. If they don't have it they will help you find it. I wish I could visit their shop again..havn't been there in more than 3 years!! They have a good website and are good about answering questions. I love alpaca yarn too...I have spun some alpaca fiber too and it was heavenly...good luck!

One thing about Alpaca -- it s-t-r-e-e-e-e-t-c-h-e-s, so take that into consideration if you are knitting with 100% Alpaca. Traditionally knit sweater will grow very long with wear, so better to knit side to side. Most shawls are structured this way already, so you should be fine.
