It used to be that women did not leave the house without a hat on. The had all these amazing styles of hats available. I want to revive the tradition of wearing hats...now I just need to find some that I can wear!

I love the look of hats, but I have such a huge head... it is realy hard to find one that fits.
I have one good winter hat that I bought over 10 yrs ago... I just found another one this past winter.

I love hats and have all kinds, both new and antique. Gloves should be worn too. In the 80's I NEVER went to a wedding without a hat and gloves. Unusual at the time, I was in my 20's.

I love hats. Vintage hats especially. I don't know why I am drawn to them, but every time I see one my heart goes all a flutter! Sadly, I look horrible in hats.

I sell lots of hats at the Olympia farmers market, so there are people wearing them. I make knitted felted hats and some people can look good in anything, and then theres people like me who dont look good in hats, I never wear them to advertise hehe.I love watching people try on hats and see how they respone, its like the hat changes them right before my eyes. they act different with a hat on. LOL
I always like the hats the southern gals wear in the summer. Love hats, always was trying them on in stores.
I think as I get older IM LOOKING better in hats. lol
NOW, MaryJane looks good in HATS!!!!

I love how in England you almost _have_ to wear a hat when you go to the racetrack. In someways I really envy old Europe because they seem to be a bit more in touch with some of these great old traditions.

I think I am going to find a good straw hat to wear this summer. We are running on a budget that is pretty tight this year since we are trying to buy our wedding rings and get the wedding put together, but nothing fit my mental image of a farmgirl more than being outside in a beautiful (and functional!) apron with a straw hat, working in the garden.

I would love to buy the straw hats that MaryJane sells or order one of their handcrafted hats that are made just for the person who orders them, but I think that will have to wait for a while. :)

I wear hats almost every day. Ball caps, Aussie Outback types, bucket types, and straws, and while riding young horses, a helmet. I have a haircut that's just made for hats, and they keep the constant sun off my face. I adore hats, and they keep my hair out of my way during my various activities.

The best way to get started in hats is to find some that look good on you. You'll have to try on a lot of them, and check them at different angles on your head. You can put the same hat on the back of your head and look stupid, and then move it more forward and at an angle and look smashing. Try 'em on!

Hmmm, never thought of that Mary Ann. Thanks so much for the hint. Maybe everyone looks good in a hat, it's just finding the right one huh? I will look for some.

My grandmother always told me every one looks good in a hat it is like putting a picture frame on a painting it is the finishing touch. People who think they don't look good in hats just are not use to it. Just an FYI from my Vavo

I like hats too, and I think I might look okay in one, but with my layered hair it would a mess!

I've bought several hat patterns off ebay over the last few months- a vintage Vogue wide brimmed sun hat, another more modern version of that same one (different company), and one with about 10 variations including a bucket type hat. I think they would sell good during the summer at a farmers market.

Sunshine I'm going to be on the look out for my kinda hat! I like several styles but I'll keep my eyes open! I'm going to be hat shopping! It would help outside too because I don't like the sun on my face at all!

I am a hat-wearer! I have a pretty sad looking straw one that I wear outside all the time and the exact same one, only in great shape for Sundays and "going to town".(I say when you find the right hat, buy two!) I wear ball caps sometimes, knit hats in the winter and I have a great sort of cowboyish canvas hat for rainy days. I used to work in the accessories dept. at Montgomery Ward and my co-worker would always make me try on the hats; boy did we have fun!

I too love hats....but my problem is that my head is very small and I can't find any that fit. Most hats cover not only my head but my ears and most of my face. Susan

mommom look for vintage or antique hats they tend to be much smaller. I inherited a lot from my husbands grandmother when she came to live with my husbands mother. Most of the vintage hats fit my children and not me

mommom,
ebay is also a great source for vintage hats, just be sure to ask the seller specific questions before buying. Rememeber, the picture can be misleading. I have bought vintage items that looked awesome & then when I got them, it wasn't as nice. Knowing this, when I sell on ebay I try to point out any & all possible flaws & encourage potential buyers to ask questions before bidding.
But for the most part you will be amazed at the fun hats available there. Type in key words like straw/wool/vintage/color, to be more specific. Have fun shopping.

I, too, have a small head and it's not easy, but...I buy my hats in the kids department and voila they stay above my ears AND I can see where I'm going. I keep trying the cute adult ones, but it's just not cute when half your forehead disappears and the hat goes to just barely above your eyebrows and it covers half your ears. LOL!!! It's a great look-NOT!
In the summer I usually stick with baseball caps, except then my ears get burnt, so back to the childrens section. Last year I found some cute reversible 'bucket-style- hats in the kids section at kmart. I think I paid 5 bucks (so about 2.50 per side). I also (good lord I'm long-winded this evening) bought a kids sewing pattern that had some hats in it-figured that way I could make it fit my little head.

Hardly ever wear them because I can't find ones to fit my big head. I do have a neat leather one, though, and a few football-team related hats...and one that merely covers my face, neck, shoulders, etc., from the sun so I don't have to get any more skin cancer (I have had two skin cancer surgeries already so I should look for some more hats that cover like umbrellas but maybe don't look as stupid. ;-)

I love hats too,
I too have a small head, with some hats you can put in some oh.....hmmm not felt but like a foam stuff you buy in the craft dept of walmart......it's soft, it's not foam, I can't think of the name, but it's by the felt and comes in a variety of colors. Iuse fabric glue and layer it in there till it fits.

Here's a pic of me in one of my favorite hats!

Heather-

What a great idea! Thanks for the tip! I have a leather hat that I adore but it is just about half a size to big. I keep thinking maybe I can pick out the seams and re-sew it to fit but I am scared of ruining it! I will try your method first!
