I had two enormous dogs attack my chicks today in my yard. They bit the head off of one of the chickens before I could chase them off. They started to come back so I hurried to prepare. Here's the picture for you to imagine:

Pregnant lady in an apron, rocks in one apron pocket (to throw at the dogs to scare them away) and a gun in the other pocket (just in case they attacked me)...running at them, swinging a hoe, and yelling...

I'm glad my neighbors aren't close enough to see me!

Oh my!! that is a great visual...LOL Sorry about the chick :o(

A very long time ago before I knew not have Turkeys in with chickens...get this visual!

Looked out the kitchen window and saw one hen laying on the ground looked again and saw a Tom turkey mounting one of my chicken hens!!! I grabbed the gun and the broom...being the two closest things to me in the house and went running out back...I had to beat the turkey off the hen...she lived but just barely.

Without say....I no longer owned Turkey's the next day..LOL I had no way to keep them seperated.

Talk to ya later,
Stephanie

ROFL I have a very similiar story. I kept finding my hens dead, but just about all that came out of the incubator was roosters that time. They were ganging up on my hens. I walked out the door and found 5 roosters gathered around one poor little hen, having their way with her. So here I went in gum boots and overalls, I yelled at my son to bring me the gun and he said, " NO mom dont!" Well he brought me the gun and I was all over the yard, I killed about 15 roosters. After that everytime I'd go outside to feed the chickens they all ran away squawking, rofl.

Great visual, Mary! It sounds like we all have similar stories only I used the gun. MB

Oh, praise the Lord! I almost didn't post because I was afraid someone would be mad about the gun! I think one of you talented ladies should design an apron with a pistol pocket...

My hubby would think it was totally hot...

My experience echoes Marybeth's. My girls don't call me Annie for nothing. Seventeen dead hens puts you in a whole new mindset.
Mikki that's a great story too, I can just see you defending the honor of your poor hens.
Mary you broke me up...that's what we need! An apron with a gun holster. Now that's funny.

LOL...

Mary, I'm thankful the dogs didn't turn on you!

Chickens sure can be a constant source of entertainment, can't they? At least in one form or another...
