I have a decent size remnant of fabric left over from making a border for my curtains. It is a beautiful silky brocade fabric. It is a deep chocolate brown background (shiny silky) and then is has a tree and clouds in gold thread and a white crane flying. It is a orientalish fabric that I just love.

So my question is- do you think this would be okay to use to make a "fancy" apron out of?

Is it washable? If so I don't know why you couldn't make an apron out of it. Sound beautiful.

A fancy apron....certainly! I think it would beautiful as a shortish hostess apron a la 50's cocktail parties!

I'd love to see a photo of the fabric. It sounds really pretty!

It sounds beautiful and my kind of fabric.
The 2 things that I would consider is how well it drapes and how washable it is for a garmet like an apron.

Take one side in your hand, and gather it.... if it has the right movement and looks good... then you just have to think about if it will still look good after 10 washes.

Assuming that it is upolstery fabric, it may be too heavy and thick for an apron. But it may make a nice pillow, or potholders.... of even if you have enough, a jacket.

It is the typical weight of a Kimono type fabric, it has weight to it, but not too heavy. I will give it a shot this week and will post the results!

if it doesn't work for an apron, couldn't you use it to create a toss pillow to match your curtains?

Oh Certainly it would make a great pillow! I just have been wanting to try sewing an apron for a while now, but am trying to be financially responsible and not go buy new fabrics! :)

Alee- It would also be great fabric for a lavender eye pillow if you have any left over;)

Hi ladies!

This is the fabric I was talking about- I have a piece left over from my curtain project that is about a yard and a half square. Do you think that will be enough to make a full size apron? I am only 5 foot tall.

Sure is pretty Alee. Hey...if you have smallish scraps left (after your apron project I mean) you could use this in a crazy quilt square! It would be perfect..and would match your curtains too!!
I think a yard and 1/2 would be plenty for an apron for you, by the way!
