Georgann, I agree with everyone else--love the red hair!

No hurry on the apron--I have one sock done and am ready to start the other, but I definitely won't have it done by this weekend. Friday is DH's b'day, so I think we're going to try to go somewhere this weekend--depends on his schedule.

Lovely aprons, everyone!!

OK, my obsessive-compulsive disorder is taking over...LOL Here is the newest incarnation of Autumn's Wrap apron. I did this with two different cuts of fabric. Each one was 1/2 yard of fabric. Just wanted to see if I could do it with two 1/2 yard pieces of fabric.

Oooo la la.....Paris Kitties with chocolate covered cherries!

Well, the pattern was originally draw up by Autumn (deep south mama) (duh....I know it is Autumn, but was thinking Amanda...duh) She sent it to me for tweeking/revision, so it is a combination effort between the two of us. Autumn, shall we cut out copies of the pattern and make them available? I thought I could cut out the main piece and then draw the other two pieces on the main piece to be traced. This would be an easy way to do it. What do you think? This apron takes so very little fabric, is fast, is open to lots of different treatments. It is great to have on hand for helpers in the kitchen because it fit my 9 year old daughter and me, a size 18 and everything in between. It could fit larger than an 18, just less tie in front or it can even be tied in the back in a pinch!

I swear I've lost my brain today.....who is using it today? Anyway, Kathie.....please NO rush......just fit the other one in when you have nothing else to do....LOL....yeah right, like me.......Please, please don't rush!

my husband's family has a reunion every summer. on saturday afternoon the family gathers for an auction in which everybody brings items-handmade items, baked goods, bought goods, and even some family heirlooms. all the goods are auctioned off with the family and the money from the auction goes toward paying for the next year's reunion. i made this apron for this year's auction. it brought $50. not too bad.

Where do I find out how to make that nifty wrap type apron? Or is there a pattern you chickadees can direct me to?

Do you girls have ruffler attachments? I wonder, I might get one for my ancient Kenmore circa 1982...if I could find one. Might get a hemmer too! Gee, how about bias tape makers? This could go on and on! ;-)

Ok Farmgirls, my hubby is working from home today, so I can't get to the pattern making, but tomorrow is going to be 100+ degrees here and the girls and I are planning on staying in all day tomorrow and I will be commencing the pattern copying. They will be hand drawn, hope you don't mind, but I will type out and print off the instructions that Autumn wrote and add my comments to them too. So if you would like a copy of the pattern, email me your address with the topic: Pattern in the email title line. I'll try to get them all cut out and in the mail this week.

Oh, one of the things that my hubby and I decided on was that I needed to go to work and find a job that will get me out of the house and around people and one that won't physically kill me like nursing has over the past 24 years. Sooooo....today I found a job....got hired on the spot. Guess where it is: Hancock Fabrics!! They are going to be super flexible with my schedule. I get to work around the girls's school schedule AND I get to wear a handmade (by me) apron to work.....Now jobs don't get no better than that. AND I get a discount on all purchases! LOL.....might as well just hand them my paycheck! LOL.....later,

Oh, and the quilting shop just asked me to teach an apron sewing class! LOL....well, when you put it out there, the cosmos just seem to find you.
The Tea Shop is still in the works, but not for at least 1 to 2 years.

Georgann,I just love your red hair and it makes you look rested and youthful...So what all did you put in that haircolor!! LOL Secret potion #9!!

My natural color is I think the same as yours and I always look younger and rested when I keep it streaked with blonde..so now it's a combination of my natural color, blonde streaks and natural gray streaks! When people tell me how much younger I looked after I started streaking it again I always tell them "it's in the potion"!

Bonne, I introduced myself when you first joined the group but we haven't hung out around each other so to speak I have been to your MSN group and found several tutorial that I want to try.

I know for sure I want to Blog about two of them so I'll be emailing you about that. I have downloaded the Apron Pattern...It is just so cute and y'all are churning them out faster than I can keep up with!

Jess, I'll be emailing you!! OMG the package arrived I absolutely love the package label. I took a digital of it before I opened it and then carefully cut it off so I can hang it up. Everything is just perfect..Thanks so much, you are such a sweet lady!!

A few on group know this but lots of you don't know...I am putting my home on the market hopefully in the next 30 days and will be moving back to the Nashville, Tennessee area. We've made several day trips so far and are very excited about the growth and opportunities open to both of us.

Anyway, I have had to (with anguish) decide to narrow down my fabric collection quite a bit. So you ladies can buy some really nice quality fabrics for your aprons if you are interested. Would you all post and tell me what type of yardage you commonly use for your full bib aprons? And what width of Bias Tape are you using on your aprons?

I will post in this thread and also in a seperate topic in the forum section once I have it ready to look at. Hope y'all will help me "be rid of this fabric" so I can pack and not have as big a "braakdown". I am so NOT looking forward to packing all of this stuff (again) but am totally excited about the move!

Hope to hear from y'all, Stephanie aka queenofdreamsz

Just caught up on the reading

Georgann, Congrats on the job! What a dream job!! Of course, you'd have to be a fabric addict and sewing girl(as all of us are) to understand that as a dream job..LOL When do you start?

I would also like a copy of the Apron Pattern if you don't mind. It's really cute!

It's been 110 here for the past 4 days!! The concrete patio looks like it wants to melt..

Let me know about the Apron Pattern, Ok?

Thanks, Stephanie aka queenofdreamsz

Stephanie...just send me an email with "Pattern" in the topic with your address in the subject line. Yes, it doesn't pay much, but I've always gone for the high paying nurse jobs and the horrible stress that goes along with it. Don't get me wrong, I love nursing, but I am turning 50 in February and just can't keep the pace of the hospital anymore. Big sigh. When I think of everything I've done to people and what I've seen over the past 24 years, I have nightmares, so I have to block so much just to get through day to day. This position will let me see all of the new fabrics and touch them and drool over them! LOL...I would love to teach basic sewing classes too....I noticed they offer them, so I will be seeing if they need another instructor. I'm going to be tucking away this bit of earnings for my tea shop!!

Stephanie, good luck with the move!! Don't envy you there one bit, we will be doing it next year too.

Amy, love the apron and congrats on the $50 auction!!

Oh, and gals remember if you want the wrap apron...Hmmm....let's call it: THE AUTUMN....send me an email with your address!!

Georgann,
Scratch the request for that wrap Apron Pattern..sorry about that..I kept thinking that the design looked familiar..LOL

I have the Mary Mulari's "Wrap Front" Apron pattern. The one that you are making is almost identical to this one.

Are you making yours "reversible"? The Mary Mulari one has one body piece, Back Yoke, Pocket and the Tie Strap piece.

Anyway, I'm sure you hadn't even seen my request yet.

Oh my gosh, will ya look at that! I have never seen the Mary Mulari aprons before just now!! Ours is slightly different from her apron though, but very similar in design! Shoot girl.....Ms. Mulari, if you are reading this, we have not, I repeat NOT copied your apron, I do not own your pattern nor had I ever seen your pattern before this moment. I saw a vintage apron in an antique shop similar to both patterns. I did not infringe on any copyrights of your pattern....did not trace it, had no idea your pattern even existed. The cut of our two apron is similar, but not entirely the same.

You know as a writer, it used to really bother me that there truly are no new ideas under the sun!

Georgann,

I can imagine the "bag of horrors" you have to keep pushed away mentally! I have always thought that Nurses were "angels in disguise" since they are the ones that really see and do for the patient.

The doctors are the cutting machines and the nurses take care of what they did and minister physically and spiritually to the patient. I have a few nurse friends and they have all reached the "burnout" and are taking a break to something that they also love but don't have the stress anymore. It's such a shame our system doesn't see fit to take care of the Nurse's "mental and physical" needs!

Anyway, off my soapbox! LOL I think it's wonderful what you are going to do and I'll bet you can get in on teaching basic sewing and more as time goes on. Once you move you may be able to transfer your job if you want to.

My Thomas is retired from Chevron Oil but works at Lowe's. He is only 60 years old and very active so he said he had always wanted to work in a hardware store so Lowe's is the modern day hardware store! He works over in the Outdoor Lawn equipment and loves it. The good thing is that they will transfer him to the Lowe's location in the area that we move to.

Talk to you later, Stephanie

Georgann,

RITFLOL LOL!!! Isn't it the truth?..I think all of us ladies that create patterns live in the same "mind"!

I have drawn out patterns for ideas that I have and have all of them in "idea journals" that are stacked up by the way And as I look around I'm shaking my head saying, "We are ALL cosmically connected"!!

It really is a continuous circle of designs that are ALL inspiration for more designs just a bit different. I have a huge vintage pattern collection (been collecting for about 9 years now) and you can look through them and see the EXACT designs being reproduced over and over again just under another designer's name.

So that's what I'm working on too...It's very time consuming but I figure by the time I launch my pattern collection that it will be retirement income! Figured since everyone else is doing re-designs I may as well join in as well since I have all these patterns to draw inspiration from..

So the Mary Mulari post was really for a dose of "inspiration" and I knew you would laugh like hell when you saw that "wrap front" apron!

The one thing I always do is keep all of my journal drawings and ALL of the draft cuts, trial and errors of producing the pattern so if anyone ever tries to scream "copyright infringement" I have my proof of originality to "disproof" there claim.

Talk to ya later, Stephanie

Hey girls-
I have it on good authority that there's nothing new-
Ec 1:9 ¶ The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.(KJV)

Congrats on the dream job!!!

Thanks Autumn,
I was paraphrasing that verse! Believe it or not, I spent about 4 years of my life in the door to door missionary work. LOL...sheesh, what haven't I done. I have always wanted to live a full life...it is too short and too sweet to take any day for granted!!

And Stephanie, you are right...working in a fabric store is one of my dream jobs, now if I could just combine a fabric, sit and knit, sewing and tea room.....I'd really be living my dream...hey, wait a minute. I could call it: Stitch and Sip!!!! OK......Let all who read this note the date and time......this is my original idea! LOL LOL I am going to open a tea room/fabric store/stitching haven for farmgirls and friends!!!

Ya'll can come and work for me...Stephanie...you can be Creative Director.
