Hey there....hubby got the modem working! WOW have you guys been busy these past two days! E.....I love the fabrics! Way too cute! What a weekend we have had. Lots of company...great fun. Lots of tomatoes! OMG.....a bazillion yet to ripen. Some sad farm stuff...found a couple of tumors on one of my girls...Sadie. My sister in law Becky is going to remove them for her on Tues...to check to see if malignant (this is a dog, btw.) She is my oldest, but only 3 years....I will be a mess if anything is wrong with her.
Also, tonight, got a call that my riding instructor and friend was out on a ride tonight and something happened, she landed on the ground with her horse on top of her....pelvic or hip injury...they air-lifted her out to a trauma center....real scary. Have not heard what her injuries are yet.
On a lighter note, I do have to pick dates for our get-together next year...Strawberry season would be lovely, I think. Georgean..you could set up your tea tent and we could have scones and fresh strawberries with our tea! Lord knows we have enough strawberry plants and by next year they will have tripled!
Bonne....glad to meet you, we have not met yet.

Oh yea.....I NEED ALL OF YOUR ADDRESSES......e-mail me. Unless I have already written to you in the past, then of course I already have your addresses!!

My hubby said yesterday...." So, how many farmgirls do you think are going to show up for your shindig?????"" Won't he be surprised. No problem, we have 130 acres, I think we can fit everyone just fine!

Keep Smiling.....Bev

I decided to go the route of reversible apron. That way you have 2 in one and if one side gets dirty...flip it over...voila! This is my first lined apron....

Since I'm always looking for shortcuts, I was wondering if anyone has done crayon fabric art on their aprons. I had a friend that used to use iron-on transfers and then color them in with crayons and iron them like the instructions and they turned out so cute. I haven't tried it yet, but thought it would be an easy way to embellish pockets on aprons etc.

Traditional Crayon Tinting

A great way to give your embroidery a vintage look

This technique is simple and fun to do. Beginning in the 1880's women began to embellish their embroidery with crayons. You can make some wonderful embroidery pieces using this method.

Color Crayon Method
1. Pre-Wash your fabric, muslin is a good choice.

2. Transfer the design onto fabric. You can use a transfer pen available at craft shops.
3. Use crayons and color directly onto the fabric. Use a light touch so that the tint does not look to heavy when set.

4. Place your colored fabric face up on ironing board, lay a piece of scrap white muslin on top of your fabric. Iron with a hot dry iron for about 15 to 20 seconds, keep your iron moving

5. When cool you can add more crayon details if you like and set again with the iron.
6. You can now do your detail work with your embroidery floss

Here's another article on Crayon Tinting:

"Wax crayons were first manufactured in the late 1800's. Sometime in those early days, it was discovered that crayons don't wash out of fabric! The story I heard is that some mom somewhere found that her little one left a crayon in a pocket and we all know where this is going!
Shortly thereafter, newspapers and women's magazines were suggesting color tinting as a quick and easy replacement for applique. And of course, needlework catalogs eventually began to offer pretinted linens. I've also read that due to hard economic times, crayon tinting became a good way to conserve embroidery thread.

Here's a beautiful example of crayon tinting. Robin's pattern is an Aunt Martha's Iron-On Transfer design.

The technique for crayon tinting is quite easy. Simply apply your design to your fabric (I use muslin or quilter's cotton and it's suggested that you prewash to remove sizing) either by tracing your design with a washout blue pen or ironing on your transfer design.

Make a pad of several layers of fabric and lay your design piece on top of that. You won't want to color on a hard surface. To get the soft look you'll need the pad of fabric as a cushion. Using regular everyday old fashioned crayons (I use Crayola) color your design as if you were coloring on paper. When you're happy with how it looks, press it with your iron between two sheets of paper. The excess wax will come off on the paper rather than on your iron. Then stitch as desired."

Bonne Thats adorable!!
When you were discribing it as i was reading I was thinking..
"How Cute!!" but hadn't that picture in mind.. i was invisioning something more along the lines of a Primamry school drawing!!!!
I love this!!

Georganne.. i have such a great idea!!
& as Usual!! YOU are the inspiration!!
Didn't you tell us years ago that you actually have one of those table cloths that you have anyone that stops by your home around Christmas time sign.. & then you stich over it later?
Someone had Posted about it again the other day..!
They'd found one somewhere for sale.. & it had all the work done on it!!
What a lovely fine huh??

ANYWAY.. i know.. off on a tangeant again!

WE each need to bring our OWN Table Cloths to Bev's next year..
& everone can Sign it then we can all do our own stich work on them!!
What do you think? OR APRON'S!!! ?
Make an Apron Just for the event.. & everyone signs it..!!

OR BOTH!!!!

I like the apron idea.....let's each make our own muslin aprons to bring along and then we can sign, draw, etc and each take home and stitch as a keepsake!! Great idea Kathie!!!!!!

And...Bonne.....I love the crayon idea. I bought an old crib coverlet at an antiques market 2 weeks ago that was embroidered and the little bunny on the picture was tinted just slightly tan....now I know how they did that! You are so on the ball, girl! Now if I only had the time I need to do everything I want to do. I need a snowstorm!! guess there is no hope for that for a few months. Guess what's for dinner....you guessed it...tomatoes!!

Keep Smiling.....Bev

Crayon tinting is loads of fun, have done it a few times but instead of putting the muslin on top to iron, I used paper towels. Didn't want to use my fabric!!!!
And Aunt George, yep when we go dumpster diving at Bev's will let you know!!!
They better be good cause it would be a long ways for me to go. LOL

LOL!! I was thinking the same thing! We need to be snowed in with no outdoor chores calling us.
I did finally get my pattern for the 1949 "Bonne" apron cut out though. I used muslin and labeled the pieces (sharpie)with their dimensions so I can use it over and over again and not worry about paper pattern tears. I so envy you east coast gals being able to meet up! I love the Apron signing idea.;)

The 1949 Apron~did a little modifying to the neck area to get it to lay flat, but otherwise I just followed the pattern. Used a repro children's print with kitties playing musical instruments.
