Since many of you sell your aprons, do you include fiber content and care instructions? So far I am making aprons for me and giving them away to friends. I feel obligated to tell them the fiber content and care instructions also even if it is just a gift.

I think it is a wonderful idea even if it is a gift. I tend to go over board especially if the apron has any other needlework like redwork or something that might bleed or fade. Better safe than sorry.

Thank you Aunt George! I had soo much fun making them last night...and I'm very happy with how they turned out...I wasnt originally planning any lace or anything, but had some lace out by my machine for another project...decided they looked good with the fabric and just kinda went from there...

They are ALL so beautifil!!! You are all so talented! Naomi, how are you keeping your ruffles from wanting to fall forward? Mine seem to tend to lean in more then they should.. I'm wondering if my stitching is too thick or something( yikes.. here i go ageain with the too thick stitches!!) OR!! are you using a Surger? I have one.. but have no idea how to use it!
So it sits there looking at me.. taunting me..

Thanks Anne! That one was a gift to my sister. She is a big girl about 300# and she loved it. She wore it to church over a dress she liked it so much....gotta love my sister....true farmgirl at heart, wearing her apron to church! LOVE her. Her name is Anne too (well Andrea and I call her Andy and she calls me George)
That one was made with homespun and a dishtowel that I found. The bib is the dishtowel and I used the extra from the dishtowel for the pocket.
Thanks again, I have many aprons on my blog...I'll have to count them sometime. Love aprons!!

Oh, and Susan......I sure wish I were the right Georgann to win that apron! It is scrumptious!!! I love it, I'd love to see the full apron!!
You are so talented.....

These are all so beautiful!! I am so impressed and cannot wait to sew more aprons. Working on a few quilts right now, but the aprons are always calling!
Chris!! Thank you for showing the apron you made me. I took a picture of it (on a chair!!LOL) and was hoping to post it, but my daughter's boyfriend had to go home before I could charge the batteries again. It is so beautiful. It is hanging on my hoosier

"Naomi, how are you keeping your ruffles from wanting to fall forward?"
Kathie...sorry I didnt reply sooner, was out for a while on a sewing field trip..if I hadnt firmly told myself I wasnt going to buy anything I would have come home broke...haha... anyways...to your question...I kinda cheated....yeah...I'm admitting it..I didnt make the ruffles on the middle apron...The bottom and side of the curtain had ruffles already on it....I simply cut and hemmed the sides...the lace though on the last skirt I actually have to gather it...then attach to the apron...oh..and I dont have a serger...just a basic Singer... Cheers,
~Naomi~

Ok.. They do look So awesome though!!! "Pre-made" ruffles or otherwise Naomi! I Love them all! I seem to made them to thick or soemthing.. I don't know.. I have to keep playing with them.. ( I know that scary serger would be a great help.. But i just can't make myself do anything with it!)
Georgann I followed the linc that Anne sent about your older Aprons too.. They are all just so unbelievable! AND always have been!!! You are just amazing Girl! & I loved seeing a picture of you!!! I think it was the 1st one i had seen of you.. & nope.. not as i pictured you!
You all are truly so inspiring.. I have a picture of the Aprons I made for work of them all hanging in a tree in the yard.. It's a cute picture.. If i can ever get it to move over here!!! ( Progress! ) Baby steps! Wow.. !

Kathie:
I was afraid of my serger too. I rarely used it and now I love it. Once it was threaded (and I could do it again on my own) I started making curtains, placemats, pillowcases, aprons.....all with that professional look. I have not used it for ruffling though. I have a ruffler for my sewing machine and use that. Maybe I'll learn how to do it on the serger so that I can ruffle and finish with one step.
P.S. It took me six months to get the courage up to use the embroidery attachment on my sewing machine! It was so easy though. I am a chicken sometimes! |

I have a serger and I have never used it....doubt that I could even thread it and I even went to a class to learn about sergers. Just give me my old fashioned sewing machine and I can do everything I need to do with it.
Everyone, and Sheryl, it was a really good swap. I like the idea of the apron hanging on the hoosier, cute (any lard on it yet?). And, I have started wearing mine - I soooo like it!
I looked at the link too, Aunt George, wow, you are a whiz sew-er, I think. You have alot of talent.
Thanks everyone for posting the pictures, I think that seeing all of them is really inspiring. |

I LOVE my serger!!!! I have only had it for about 4 years now, and I can never do without one!!! I actually just bought a second one. I bought my serger used. It is a Bernette and is about 20 years old, but it works really, really well. My seams lie flatter and it is so much faster and gives such a nice smooth professional finish on the inside. It also takes the bulk out of the seams and gives a smooth finish to curves like armholes. I trimmed, and snipped armholes for 30 years and I do so prefer the serger armholes. They are much stronger too.
Gosh, I'm glad ya'll are cruzin my blog. I've got some of the costuming on there that I've done in the past too. I'm about ready to start on making some sunhats to put in my etsy shop. I'll be donating part of the proceeds from my hat sales to the Malignant Melanoma Foundation in memory of my mother.

Georgann, I luv the red toile,,,,I am finding more & more toile fabrics these days, and in an aray of colors ranging from black to greens, purples, brown, drk & lt blues, pink as well as the traditional red. The contrast w/the black really punches up the red toile. Great use of fabric & colors. This makes you the Queen Apronista!!!!!!
