My new book, MaryJane’s Stitching Room, is out officially today. What is now a 144-page book was at one point a 288-page book! Our publisher decided to turn it into a smaller workbook, which resulted in quite a bit of content that we’ve been trying to find a home for.

One of the sections they cut included about 40 photos of pinkeepers we made here at the farm. We had spent about a month more than a year ago with our creative juices turned on full blast. It was a total blast, really, so we decided to share the experience. (During that time, we dreamed pinkeepers, we talked pinkeepers, we saw signature pinkeepers in every bowl, every shoe, every hat … pert near everything, even chicken feeders!)

But before we show you ours (to be featured in a 2008 issue of our magazine), we thought we’d ask you if we could see yours first???!!!! Hence, a contest!

Then, we’ll pick a couple of winners: one for best of show and one from the farmgirl chapter with the most entries. Our PINKEEPER WINNERS get me and mine (Meggie, Luke, and baby) for a visit, actually a crafting visit in your hometown. For more details on how the contest works and how to join in on the fun for strutting your own stuff(ing), check out:

Oh, my. I have to check out the deadline for this contest. My group of ladies is called the Chat and Craft group, but I never officially changed it from the Busy Bee Club. Hmm.. I wonder if they are up to the challenge.

This is such a wonderful contest! What a perfect prize- Having a crafting workshop with MaryJane, Megan, Stella and Luke! It'll be lots of fun making pin keepers and picking just the right one to submit and we can give the others that we create to our friends and family for Christmas presents!

Debi and Bev, got plenty of room for you to hole up here if VA wins!! The rules say 20 can come to the craft session!! I was just taking a nap and dreamed up a pin keep. I've been looking at the base of this here thing for a while not knowing which direction to go with it, then it came to me in the dream! LOL.......Well, we'll see how my dream translates to the needle! LOL

I am definitly IN on this one! I have a great thing to use as a base.
Thanks MaryJane for a great challenge. So fun!
Not sure about our Chapter...we are having problems with meeting times...it seems everyone has gone to work in our group...so it is hard to find a time when we can get together.

I do not think I will be entering, but these are the cutest things. So nice that you shared directions for the jelly jar one. Now I will anxiously be waiting for the September issue even more.

Well wont this be fun!!!??? I just spoke for an new chapter kit yesterday! I have had two people in the past two days contact me and go - WE HAVE TO GET ROLLING WITH OUR CHAPTER!!! A farmgirl's green market I am involved in has a great new kitchen for us to meet in. I will be teaching some classes and could NOT be more excited! I think pin keepers will be our first project for our sewing class for Future Farmgirls (two groups ages 8-10 and 11-up)! I will also be teaching basic hand sewing to young farmgirls (5-7) and their moms. This will be so great!!! Wow what timing!!! Can you hear me squealing???!!!!

Yep! I just wanted to make sure that even the farmgirls that don't have the book (yet!) could check out some inspiration...

Eren.....YAY!! Ok VA Farmgirls, we need to unite into a big VA Farmgirl Chapter and have a central meeting to work on our pinkeeps together!! We can travel around to different towns and have our meet and greets!!!

Anyone for it? WE can wait until Eren gets here oh, and Nance.....are you here or in France?

Rosemary, I know you will be there and we might just all have to travel to Sheila's area....it is very difficult for her to get out.

hugs and stitches and pin keep wishes!!! We want MJ and her clan here in VA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the contest for any pin keeper? Any style? Or just similar to those in the book? Just want to clarify for myself. Thanks!

Okay girls, first of all I can NOT take credit for this pin cushion. It was purchased at a crafts fair. I absolutely love it and just wanted to share it with you to add to your list of ideas. The bottom tier is velvet and the ruffles, piping and top tier are taffeta. It has a heavy base filled with flax seeds (not sure, but the feel is wonderful). To top it off, there is lavender inside somewhere so it smells like a sachet! Do you love it too?

I think the contest is to come up with the most creative pin keeper that you can. I might be wrong, but I think anything goes!

Are pin keeps the same as pin cushions or do they have to be in something else to be a pin keep I am a little confused.
