Hi girls.
Naomi, you'll be glad to know your pinkeeper is posted now. You can see it in the gallery. (http://www.maryjanesfarm.org/contest/gallery.html) CUTE! Our publisher is managing this contest for us and we don't actually post them here at the farm, so if you send in an entry and don't see it posted within a few days, be sure to let us know and we'll follow up.

Thanks!
Carol

Sunshine, thanks for the link to the pin cushion group. What clever ideas! I love the birds, the cupcakes, the little penny-rug look ones, so much fun! I did stumble upon a discussion on filling. Most were saying they used poly fiberfill, but it seems to me poly tends to "bind" pins and needles rather than give them a surface to glide through. Some said rice, most said sand was too fine. One suggested coffee grounds (new not wet used ones!). Just curious on everyone's thought here. I have made little ones from scraps of old quilts for years and just used pices of warm and natural (a cotton batting for quilting.) Thoughts or ideas on stuffing?

I use scraps of wool batting left over from quilts and scraps of wool lefty over from rugs I think things glide much better in wool

What about using lanolinized wool as a filler? I know running a pin through your hair can help it glide through tough fabrics. Or do you think it would have a funky odor after a while?

Ok, I emailed my pinkeep! I went for practical, rather than purty!! It is something that I will use for many years and my grandmother would have loved one of these. Done completely from recycled or thrifted items!! Just trying to stay real to who I am.....Repurposing is what I do!!!

It ain't the purtiest, but it is who I am!

Aunt George-

I am sure your pinkeeper is really great and in true Farmgirl fashion! I can't wait to see it! I know it can take a day or so to get the photo onto the gallery, though!

Just some quick links to the contest rules and gallery since this topic is many pages long now :)
