I am trying to be patient and wait for tomorrow. I get to pick up my treadle tomorrow evening. Can't wait to start fiddling around with it. Can I use the serial number on it to find information on google? Don't really know how to do that. I assume I can just put the make and serial number in and come up with something.
I have been wrestling with the (99) today trying to get the thread tension right so I can finish my apron. I have never had to mess with the tension on it before. There was a little something caught in the bobbin shuttle that didn't belong there and I wondered if that could mess it up. My husband who normally steers clear of the sewing machines actually looked over the manual and straightened it out with me.
So maybe when the kids are done watching their movie I can get back to it. I'd like to finish it up tonight.

Hey Jess, when do you pick up your little beauty? You'll be pleased with how much room it
DOESN'T take up when it's closed. I could justify another one of these cabinet models.
How about the needle size?~so far from what I've seen the Free takes the same size as most Singers. (from that bobbin/shuttle/needle size site) That's what I'm looking for lately~compatibility. I did find needles from the above site for my Minnesota though~3/$6. Not bad as long as I don't break them right away.

| i have found the treadle needles to be much stronger than the newer ones. Bev will pick it up for me as it is near her house in PA...and we are mtg at the renfaire in ohio with elizabeth..and we will make the trade then...oct 7th i believe. |

The machine is home now. It is in fantastic shape. Has extra belts. I did go to the site Bonne. This one was manufactured in 1893. It has a bullet shaped bobbin. The books for it are in pretty good shape and it came with all its attachments. I almost died when the guy told me that originally they were just going to set it out at the curb and hope someone would take it. I told him I was sure glad he didn't! My husband is having as much fun with it as I am. My son has been looking it over too. Ha and I thought my husband might not be to happy about picking it up as he worked a 12 hr shift last night for the 4th night in a row and was up by late morning. I figured he would just want to hang out here today and turn in early to catch up a bit. It was about an hour and a half drive but it only took that long because of rush hour in Philadelphia. Anyway, I am going to start looking things up about it online so I can figure out what I'm doing. I think the belt is loose because the treadle seems to go hard and when it gets going the belt isn't going around.

And I love hearing about all the treadles in your lives.
Take a look at this child's sewing machine -- vintage -- hand-crank -- we received it today at the consignment shop and it came home with me so I can research and clean it.
The woman who brought it in is 86 years old and it was hers when she was a little girl. Isn't it sweet?

Bonne -- The machine is marked 'Made in Germany' but that's all I know. I'm verrry tempted to have the little cutie stay for good, but I'm still working on another (useable) machine purchase and I need to save my $$ for that. Plus our frig-freezer just had an 'incident' (I think the freezer got stuck on defrost for a day or two; the repair technician is coming out today), and I'm due back to the dentist for a crown atop my recent root canal. Oh, that's enough! What I'm trying to say is no funds for little sewing machine right now. If it isn't purchased right away at the shop, maybe I'll buy it later.
Or maybe I'll just buy more fabric.

| Those machines are all over ebay...look there under child sewing machine and small sewing machine..they sell for about 100-150 bucks...that one looks great. I would love to have it. I have bid on several but I am too cheap for 100 bucks! Sometimes they go for less, but usually they are junky. Anyway...there is usually someone on there who has done all the research...see if you can find that person. |
