How, tell me HOW have I missed this thread! I was on a treadle madness tour last year, hunted high and low. A local woman bought mine for me in an attic in Vermont and shipped it with loads of antiques up to alaska. It cost me 125.00 and I adore it..... Of course, my husband was absolutely mesmerized with it's workings!! It is just the coolest thing. jo

I found a manual online somewhere and I can't remember where! When I first received my machine I took it into a sewing machine repair place and this wonderful older gentleman went to work on mine. He went completely through it, it works beautifully. It does sound like a threading problem though with your machine? When I first threaded my machine I thought to myself that it was a good thing that women had more time back then!
The most wonderful thing about a treadle........ My machine was made during the first WWI, I keep thinking about the women who probably sat at my machine and what their lives were like. The old machines work on the same principles as the new ones. They are magical..... jo

| When I got my first treadle it was doing that same thing and as it turns out the needle and the piece that holds it on needed to be 90 degrees different...and then it was amazing...the great thing is that they are so basic you can work out all the kinks on your own. |

LOL~helps to have a manual. I thought I'd downloaded the complete manual, but turned out it was a partial that only discussed timing, so downloaded the complete manual(from the website I indicated previously)~threaded it right this time~adjusted tensions back and forth~still not right.
Finally, I decided to change the needle from what my MIL had in it. $#%&* NOW it works!! LOL

steph..you should see all the different cabinet styles..it will make you want to start a museum!

You know the good thing about it? I learned a LOT about the machine, which I needed to do.
I love how helpless my hubby is with sewing machines. He knows how to fix lots of things, but zip on the sewing, so he just quietly watched TV~LOL I don't want to have to depend on someone else to diagnose and repair these, so I'm learning as I go. ("somebody" inspired me that way....lives in "Hoosier Country 105.1 FM" )

I actually have my old Minnesota sewing!!! Kinda! LOL
Haven't gotten the belt, so just turning the wheel manually, but got
the tensions adjusted so it stitches. The needle that came with it is much
longer than standard needles(2" compared to 1 1/2"), and since it was grody
I put a regular needle in it , only slipped it farther down while locking it on.
Need to find long needles, then give it another go, but it WAS finally stitching evenly.
Now when the world goes to sh#t in 2012, I can run up to the mts. with my treadles and
plenty of fabric and notions and live out my days~LOL

| i have not really looked at my needles much...the ones in the machines all work well..all i did was clean em a bit! I know I have found people on ebay selling just abourt everything i ever need. I also have a great local old guy with a shop and he knows most everything! i need to go look at my needles now! |

That's the beauty of Singers~there are so many, that there is a lot of information out there and parts. You probably use the standard needle on all your machines. I wouldn't have thought it took a longer needle, if it hadn't been actually in the machine. This is that obscure machine that was sold by Sears at the turn of the century.
I may just end up ditching the machine, and keeping the cabinet to house .........something different and more useable. It only cost $25 , so no tears shed. And as someone said, 'there are many sewing machine heads out there, but not as many decent cabinets, since people used them for other things, like plant stands and they got ruined.'

My machine is a New Home with an unusual "Belle" cabinet, the serial number dates it to 1913, it uses 2" needles. The first month I was scavenging manuals, production stuff, it was built in Massachussets, I think Orange, can't remember now! jo

I really need a "general store" that I just happen to live in also...That way all of my collections would look so intentional...I could have the sewing machine section, the fabric section, the ribbon section, the yarn section....OMG, what fun would that be!! Of course, not much would be for sale...LOL

You can decorate your house any way you like, the way I look at it. Mine is like Halloween year 'round, as I don't put away my Halloween collectibles~I enjoy them too much.
If your house looks like an old timey General Store, you go girl! It makes you happy to be surrounded by your loved things! People seem to get too caught up in "what would people think?" and go for conventional decorating. Pfffsstt!! Our house definately reflects our personalities.

In Minnesota, back in the day, since there are so many lakes, when you
wanted to unload something~old cars, household items, etc. (no trash), you
just threw them in a lake. Seriously, when the water level in some lakes would go down, you'd see the top of an old truck sticking up. Well, I know of one old slew-y lake where my dad pitched an old cash register, and in another my grandma dumped a Red Wing saltglaze water cooler. LOL
Once those prairie lakes dry up in the centuries ahead, they'll be archaeological digs full of
assorted junk.
