Wow, the kohler looks gorgeous. don't you wish they could tell you their stories - who bought them, how far they traveled, etc?

I have been a knitting fool today. Don't you worry Bonne, the pics will be on my blog soon. you are just SUCH a crazy-wonderful spinner - I am constantly amazed at how much beautiful yarn you produce!!!

There are Kohler machines shown on Needlebar at: http://www.needlebar.org/cm/thumbnails.php?album=255
It's quite possible that a standard low-shank foot (and other attachments) will fit your machine. Do you have a picture of it or can you match it up to one of the pictures on Needlebar?

Hello Farmgirls;
Please see a picture of my treddle on my blog "Froccs", in my signature below....
I landed this machine on the west Coast of WA. we were moving to the Ease side of the state with no running water, nor "in door" facilities nor electricity, so, sold everything we had and I bought this at a small sewing machine place on the west side........
I really do appreciate all of the info. will get back to figuring this out...but, Christmas and 10 Grandsweeties keeps me hopping along with their parents....5 boys, their wives, and our only daughter and her husband....

I'm real excited by this topic. I just found 2 treadle machines for sale in Tucson but won't be there for another week. Hope they don't get sold out before I get to town. One woman will try to hold it for me. Now that I'm off-grid and rural again, I've decided to take the plunge and get one and get it running.

I don't know the make of them yet. Will have to see and see if they work at all.

Let you know.
Allison

hi connie - i used to live in Sterling AK south of Anchorage. no running water and a 2 hole outhouse for 3 years with 2 toddlers as a single mom. best place i ever lived!

Your machine is beautiful. It looks like a Kohler 7 or 8, made in the 1920s. I'm 99% sure that any feet or attachments for the older low-shank Singers (like models 15, 66,99,201,221) will fit your machine. There are always lots of them on ebay for reasonable prices.

Bonne - love your blog. Will you do a blurb on Yule as well. The Samhain one is way cool!

When (if - pray pray pray) I can get a treadle when I get back to Tucson, I will definitely post pix on my blog and will probably be combing the forums for info on what I need to get it fixed up if it's not quite working.

I'm determined! I'm too rural to keep looking for an outlet for my portable...

Allison, I put Yule on the "to do" list.
Have you kept your eyes peeled on Craiglist for your area?
Sometimes you have to do a little driving to a metro area, but
dang, Colorado is inundated with treadles, so I'm thinking AZ would be
too. That was a time of big settlement here, and I imagine every household
needed a treadle.

There are 2 in Tucson from Craigslist, but they don't know if they can hold them until I go back at the end of the week. They did like that I actually wanted to use rather than resell, so we'll see. If not those then I'm sure I'll find another sometime soon.

Fingers crossed!

And I can't wait to see the "to do" result!

Bonne- I looked on some of these sites and found what I needed from this one. I recieved my order 7 days after ordering and everything fit my machine perfect. Finally got a book so I could thread the needle right as it has been awhile since I owned a treadle. Thanks for your info. sewingmachine221sale@pop.bizland.com

Both New Home and Royal/Free made machines badged Ruby, so a picture would really help. If there are no serial number plates visible on the top of the machine anywhere you might look under the sliding plate; sometimes they were cast into the metal there.

Im going to say 3399936 it might be an 8399936 it is on the sliding plate and it is almost worn off. It is a Ruby New Home I finally got it in enough light could really see it. It even has all the attachments too. What a find I will need to get a new belt and a couple of other thing to get the table back in working order.

My mom gave me my great-grandmother's White, it even has the original, crumbling manual! It's in beautiful condition. I need to replace the leather belt on it though, there is one in one of the drawers, does anyone know if I can use it if it's old? Should I just purchase a new one? Do I need to wax it a bit maybe to keep the leather supple or would that make it slip?

You can get new ones on ebay. I have a treadle and it came with a belt but I think it was stretched so I didn't use it. There is a store on ebay the was recommended to me by Bonne I think and I was very happy with her. Let me see if I can find her again for you. Great price too!
