Sometimes when the garden is a mess my husband will ask me if I left the garden to the Lord. I havent been near the garden bed with tomatoes since the storm last week. I was going to let a hard freeze take it out, easy for me to clean up. I decided to check out the plants and found 2 slicer tomatoes-what a great find! The squash plants were not damaged-great to see!

Today's good mood brought to you by a lot of coffee!!!

Good one Tara! I always hope for the kitchen fairies to show up and they never do. lol Nice surprise to find good things in your garden yet. I will open up my garden fence and get started on clean up today. Chickens will get a few big cucumbers and zucchini I am sure. I throw everything in my gator, and go and dump by the woods. We have not froze yet. Got down to 37 so far.

It's cooling down in north central/east Texas. Depends on who you talk to whether Paris is in north central or northeast Texas. Night temps in the high 50s or low 60s. Day temps still in high 80s with heat index of high 90s.

Annie and I sat out on the side porch this morning. Very pleasant with a cool breeze. Heard birds singing this morning. I guess they are finally coming back after all the jackhammering in August when my house was leveled. Even the squirrels were scared off for a while. I hoped they wouldn't come back but looks like they are. They love to plant acorns and pecans in my container plants and raised beds. Always picking out wee pecan and oak trees.

Happy Sunday to everyone. Oh the squirrels are such rascals storing up for the winter Sara. I do love watching them.
We had some much needed rain this past week but now it will clear out and be beautiful again with fabulous blue skies.
The house is quiet now without our 10 month old nephew Wally, we miss him so much already. Cannot wait to see him again next year.
Enjoy your day everyone.

Spent morning dicing apples for dehydrator, then diced a bunch of garden peppers. I have a vegetable/fruit chopper. but I found chopping by hand easier.
I worked in garden yesterday. I planted 65 cloves of garlic in the Greenstalk vertical garden. I had to replace all the dirt. Then added bags of soil to other raised beds. That took a lot out of me. Today after am in kitchen I took a 90 minute nap.

Today's good mood brought to you by a lot of coffee!!!

For the past couple months I've felt stressed. There's my job, which I love, but keeps me busy- my husband recovering from meniscus operation, the two exchange students, and the dogs. My "vacations" have been short ones because I know my coworker can't learn quickly what I do.
My husband suggested a trip to Chicago between Christmas and new years. My boss gave the ok and we got a wonderful dog sitter, Churunga. Then I learned of a scheduling conflict. If your local paper is weekly, they may, like us, send off a holiday issue to be printed early enough so that they arrive before Christmas or New Years. My problem was the first issue of 2025, scheduled for the printer Dec. 30, when I'd still be in Chicago. I felt sick, not knowing what to do. Then, my guardian angel whispered "remote work".I presented that solution to my boss, then called our computer guy and today my laptop is linked to my computer at work. I feel so much better, but it's a bummer that this will be a working vacation. On the other hand if I get sick and have to stay home, I can still keep up.
Thank y'all for letting me vent. I'm trying to catch up with the penpal letters, Christmas cards are a fading dream.

((Hugs Vanessa)) It's disappointing that your vacation will be interrupted by work but at least you will be getting out of town and be your paper's "foreign correspondent". Forget the Christmas cards and get yourself a massage or something else fun for you.

Vanessa, when stress comes at you from all directions it is hard to deal with and to hang on to your peace. To hang on to my peace I have learned to let go of what is not absolute necessary and to find a way to manage the rest.

Sara, the way I feel, I'm ready to drop the necessary tasks too. When I had the tree set up and brought up the lights because my husband said he'd put them on but he didn't so I put them on, then I brought up ornaments for the girls to put on the tree but they hole up in their rooms so I did it myself, it's enough to make me grumpy.

Vanessa I saw on the Swap thread you put your name in for the snowman swap, good for you. When your creative juices start to flow you will be able to block out some of the other racket. Creating is good for the soul.

Vanessa -- that's why I gave up on decorating years ago. I got tired of doing it all myself and didn't like the feeling of resentment the season was giving me.

Sorry to hear about your stress Vanessa. It's difficult when people promise to help and don't follow through. I would focus on your job and not worry about Christmas Cards and pen pals right now. Maybe you can find stories for the newspaper while on your trip to Chicago.

My friend posted this on Facebook and it hit home to me so I wanted to share it with all of you.

To all my female friends 50 years and up.
Most of us are ageing through the next phase of our lives. We're at the age where we see wrinkles, grey hair, and extra pounds.
We see cute 25-year-olds and reminisce.
But we were also 25, just as they will one day be our age. We aren't those "girls in their summer clothes" anymore. What they bring to the table with their youth and zest, we bring our wisdom and experience.
We have raised families, run households, paid the bills, dealt with diseases, sadness and everything else life has assigned us.
Some of us have lost those that we're nearest and dearest to us.
We are survivors.
We are warriors in the quiet.
We are women, like a fine wine or classic car.
Even if our bodies aren't what they once were, they carry our souls, our courage, and our strength. We shall enter this chapter in our lives with humility, grace, and pride over everything we have been through, and we should never feel bad about getting older.
It's a privilege that is denied to so many.
~unknown
