I just spoke to Maria this morning, and am very upset at the school. Her daughter went to school the next day and the kids taunted her because her house burned down. Her mother said she was in tears most of the day. It sounds like the teachers did nothing to stop it. Her daughter did not want to go back to school and her mother said she didn’t have to. Maria spoke to the principal to tell them, but they didn’t say much. That’s terrible.

Friends of ours - 2 families - took their kids out of that school and put them in the Christian school here because they said the teachers gave the kids busy work and sat at their desks on their cell phones. Glad I don’t have kids in school.

That's terrible. DH and I said if we had to raise kids now they would be homeschooled.

I am sorry she has to deal with Linda. Kids can be so mean. They don't always learn from home but sometimes they do.

My son, in kindergarten, was being bullied on the bus. Come to find out when I talked to the bus driver, it was her grandson doing the bullying. That stopped in short order. We homeschooled for a few different reasons but our kids had spent one year out of public schools and a year in Christian school before we had heard about homeschooling. I wish we had know about it sooner. .

I know most of the problem is with the parents when the child is a bully. When I substitute taught I was surprised how many parents did not care that their child was always in trouble or failing in school. They didn't seem to care. That is so sad.

Parents are most definitely the cause. The last two generations have been spoiled and it seems telling kids they are special is the thing to do now. No manners are taught anymore, no discipline. Every child thinks they are entitled to do whatever they want.
I recall once when I was working in the library a child said "thank you" and I was so surprised I could barely say "you're very welcome".

So true, Judith. Sometimes just getting any sound from a student when speaking to them surprises me. It is hard to tell whether they heard you or not.

Linda, I am sorry to hear about the terrible fire of your neighbors across the street. They must be devastated.

Yes, I will add that today's children have many more privileges and fewer responsibilities than what was common in my childhood. Sometimes I think that also leads to kids amusing themselves with video games or TV shows and not learning how to play , get along with others, and respect others. Parenting today has many challenges since both parents usually work and everyone is so busy with the culture we live in that the kids don't end up with enough guidance and enforcement of basic manners at early ages.
