This may be a tad late to start, but I would like to show you how to make a Christmas sweatshirt. I am hoping there are a few in the henhouse who would be interested in making one along with me to help celebrate the holidays.
In spite of how the tree looks, there is no crochet involved. The tree is made from a round store-bought doily. I have always used a sewing machine for the first step; however, the sewing can be done entirely by hand. You can be very creative and make this your own.
Here is a picture of my sweatshirt; it is around 15-20 years old, and whenever I wear it I get many comments. It is completely machine washable and dryable.
I have made these for family and friends and everyone loves them. It would also make a great project for a young girl to make.
The supplies you will need (with examples) are: * A red sweatshirt (or green or blue) * A 12" white store-bought doily - examples below.
The first was from Dollar General and the other from an estate sale. I have also bought them at Hobby Lobby, Michael's, and JoAnns. * Miscellaneous smaller Christmas-shaped colorful buttons.
You can see in my sweatshirt that I also found package-shaped buttons that I put at the base of the tree.
If anyone is interested in this project, I will start the instructions for making the tree from the doily and then continue from there. I will give you a little time between "lessons".
Are you ready to start? Let's have fun!

I don't have doilies I want to use but I do have yards and yards of lace. Would this work?

The doily makes the tree (without cutting); however, I am sure you could make a layered tree with your lace, depending on how wide it is. This is mainly a lacy tree with whatever buttons or trims you want to decorate with. I have had the small metallic beaded trims on mine like a garland. After 15+ years of washing every holiday season the beads really need replacing. LOL! Guess I need to do some redecorating.
