Can't believe we are already in the last week of September. Sure flew by. Seems the whole year is only 6 months long anymore. I guess it feels that way after awhile.

Vanessa -- I hope yo weather the storm safe and sound.

Denise -- Yes, the years keep getting shorter and shorter. Remember when you were young and it took the month of December ages and ages to get to Christmas? Now it's over before I even think about sending cards.

Exactly Judith! Be safe Vanessa. We are having heavy rain and very gusty strong winds. So far we have power. Charging things just in case.

96 here today. Last week when it was cooler and I thought maybe fall had arrived I bought tickets for the renaissance fair tomorrow. Unfortunately they will go to waste as there is no way I can be out in this weather. If anyone is nearby and wants two free tickets let me know.

Apple Season
The kitchen is sweet with the smell of apples,
big yellow pie apples, light in the hand,
their skins freckled, the stems knobby
and thick with bark, as if the tree
could not bear to let the apple go.
Baskets of apples circle the back door,
fill the porch, cover the kitchen table.

My mother and my grandmother are
running the apple brigade. My mother,
always better with machines, is standing
at the apple peeler; my grandmother,
more at home with a paring knife,
faces her across the breadboard.
My mother takes an apple in her hand,

She pushes it neatly onto the sharp
prong and turns the handle that turns
the apple that swivels the blade pressed
tight against the apple's side and peels
the skin away in long curling strips that
twist and fall to a bucket on the floor.
The apples, coming off the peeler,

Are winding staircases, little accordions,
slinky toys, jack-in-the-box fruit, until
my grandmother's paring knife goes slicing
through the rings and they become apple
pies, apple cakes, apple crisp. Soon
they will be married to butter and live with
cinnamon and sugar, happily ever after.

We haven't lost power but so many are without here. I went out today and it is a mess out there. First place I went all the traffic lights were out. Came back to our neighborhood and so many have lost huge trees. We didn't see any home damage but who knows. So bad for all those who received the brunt of it.

Good Evening Ladies, PLEASE Keep North Carolina in your prayers. The mountains are devastated, towns completely eliminated. It is so tragic. We live just east of the mountains and Hurricane Helene hit here first. We lost power Thursday evening, also trees down, which is absolutely nothing compared to what Western North Carolina is going through. Some Cities are only accessible by air. I live approximately an hour East of Asheville, where many are currently missing. Roads are completely washed out. There are some you tube videos that show much of the suffering. Many states were affected as you know. My two oldest daughters and their families live in Florida, directly across the state from where the hurricane first hit. Neither family lost power. It traveled up through Georgia and South Carolina causing destruction all the way. According to CNN (Who knows what to believe) there is most damage in North Carolina. I just got power and internet back this evening. I am praying for everyone affected everywhere! Blessing Maryellen

I have family in NC. The devastation there is unreal. Last I heard there were 50 fatalities. As far as I know family is all safe. Haven't heard from one yet if they are safe. My cousin lives in the mountains and she has been sending photos. Towns are completely gone. It is so sad.

We still have so many without power. Lots of debris too but nothing compared to the devastation in those other places. Keeping all in prayer.

Finally heard from her and they are fine.
They live about 45 minutes from Asheville. There is no getting in or out of Asheville so they are doing food and water drops for those there and they do have shelters but they need our prayers. I know there are lots of those who are traveling there to aid those who need help.

It is so hard to believe how bad this hurricane was and still is. They are saying it is the worst ever. NV seems to have been the hardest hit, though areas of TN and SC and GA have also had heavy damages. An onlinne friend in another group said her son and his family left their home in St. Petersburg when told to evacuate and are happy they did; after the storm passed abd they were able to survey the damages they had lost their home, 2 cars, a motorcycle, and everything else they owned. My brother has a place in St. Petersburg (though he was at his home in NY during the storm) and their very old condo building made it through the storm, but some people who disregarded the evacuation notice died in their homes due to the high waters that engulfed their homes as quickly as it did.

I heard the Biltmore Estate that I loved when we visited there a few years ago has water damages and is currently closed. So sad.

Hugs and prayers for everyone.
