I just love these photos for this time of year. September and October are my favorite months of the year.
Can you believe we have the heat on. The morning chill is real today. Having my tea on the deck a little later when I take my morning break! I'm hearing lots of squirrel chitter and crows these days. Im loving every minute. Been thinking of what to make for Apple Pie Sunday to end our apple month celebration.

t will be cooler today -- 99. Still too warm for me to go picking. I am looking forward to October, one of my favorite months. Our resident squirrels are quite happy with our big pecan tree and several varieties of acorns.

Love these photos Denise. Lucky you for cooler temps! We can't seem to budge an inch out the swampy hot and humid daily weather. Tis hurricane peak season this month and it seems September is always like this . Maybe October will get better towards the end of the month? No promises.

Seems JT has the shingles. The doctor says I won't get it because I've had the chicken pox. I thought you could get it even if you have had them since JT had them also. Confusing.

From the Mayo clinic: "After you've had chickenpox, the virus stays in your body for the rest of your life. Years later, the virus may reactivate as shingles."
Maybe you need a new doctor. There is a vaccine for shingles. Sending good thoughts to JT for speedy healing. Shingles can be painful and uncomfortable.

No not a new doctor. He didn't say I couldn't get them just that I wouldn't get them from JT.

I could still get them if I come in contact with the skin when it is not yet dried up. But I can't get them from just being in the same home as him. I don't know what triggers the virus to become active when it is dormant for so long.

Found this on Facebook.

Not so many years ago, lunch consisted of leftovers: Cold chicken or roast, cheese and a bit of fruit, or biscuits with grandma's apple jelly or honey. Sometimes there would be a bologna sandwich or pimento cheese, with homemade pickles too. For a special treat there might be a cookie or a half-slice of pound cake. These goodies came wrapped in cloth napkins, butcher paper, or waxed paper, and were carried in tin lunch boxes, paper bags (which were gently carried so they could be reused for several days), or wicker-style lunch baskets. My grandparents carried cold water or hot coffee in a thermos, which had a cup that screwed on top and doubled as a handle. I'm sure no fast-food lunch was ever as good as these old-fashioned ones.

Denise, I had chickenpox, three light cases of shingles, the first shingles vaccine back in 2016 but was recommended by my family doctor to get the new shingles vaccine which is a 2 shot vaccine. Even if you have had chickenpox, you are still able to get shingles because the virus does stay in your body for the rest of your life. The ew vaccine is at all the pharmacies and the shots are one and the second 2 months later. Easy peasy and it will protect you from any serious cases of shingles.

I had chicken pox twice; the first time was a bad case when I was 13, the second time a light case when I was about 45. Some of us in my family don't keep immunities; Mom got chickenpox with each one of us kids, I had German measles twice. I got the original shingles shot in 2015-16 and when the new improved one came out I got the first shot and had such a bad reaction that there is no way I'm getting the second shot. I could not lift my arms higher than my shoulders for about two months and my thighs would not lift me out of a chair without help.

It's funny how we are all so different in these things. I has chickenpox when I was about 7 or 8. My oldest daughter got them when she was about 7 and even though my girls shared a bed my younger daughter never got them from her. Now she did get them but she was 18 years old and working and one of her friends who was 16 got them and they sort of went through her friend's family. We spent lots of time with them. So all around the same time. The friend's 17 yr old brother and the younger one at 11 all had them. My son also got them at 13. It was quite strange because even though they all had them around the same time each one had either a light or heavy. My daughters was heavy and my son's was a light case. My daughter's boss called everyday to see when she could come back to work but the Dr. said not until she has scabbed over so it was about a week. I remember we were all waiting to see if all of them would be over them for my son's birthday party. He was the only one who still had a few left but we did it anyway. My daughter's one friend when he saw her said he couldn't believe she didn't still have any spots and she said " They don't call it covergirl for nothing"

Anyway the shingles have scabbed over and even though JT had a heavier case last time he said this time they are more painful. Last time they were just more itchy. I do not like needles so I do my best to keep my immunity up naturally. I will get a shot if absolutely necessary though.

I waited until I was 34 to get the mumps and my son and the cat were the only ones that caught them from me. I called the vet as I thought she had bee stings and he said cats can catch mumps from their people.

I'm hoping that first shot keeps me from shingles; it seems like something to be avoided at all costs. I hope JT gets over it fast.
Yesterday we got our covid and flu shots. Arm is a little stiff today.

He seems to be doing well. The vitamin b6 and the alpha lipoic acid seem to be helping. Doctor said it could last 3 months but I doubt it will.
